Chapter 144 - 116: The Might of the Immortal Sword!

Chapter 144: Chapter 116: The Might of the Immortal Sword!

The origin of Sword Dao is the True Sword Dao.

Among the Thirty-Six Immortal Skills, True Sword Dao and Yuqing Daoji are the easiest to obtain. For example, to master the first three levels of the True Sword Dao, even if one is just a disciple learning the basics of the Yuqing Sword Skill, only an elder who has attained the Mahayana Realm is required. Similarly, Buddhism and Demon Sword techniques are not much different.

The latter, Yuqing Daoji, is even easier. The Sanqing Taoist Sect openly allows outsiders to learn it. Although they do not actively spread their spells, anyone with enough talent who goes to Three Pure Mountain will not be begrudged the teachings by the sect.

Like most skills of ascension, exceedingly few have managed to master them over the millennia.

The higher the level of the magic skill, the less tightly it is kept secret. This is simply because of the extremely high difficulty; sects already publicize teachings in order to find capable cultivators.

Every step Gu Wen took on the path of the Sword Dao seemed like crossing mountains and rivers; every stage was like climbing a sheer cliff.

His entire spirit was immersed in it, not daring to be distracted in the slightest, as there was no room for his attention to wander.

Below, Jun Yan’s mummy behind him babbled in madness:

"The origin of the Sword Dao, where all laws converge, the foremost sword of heaven and earth... It is impossible, absolutely impossible for anyone to master it."

The one thing not lacking in the Burial Abyss are these madmen.

They rely on Burial Energy to extend their lives; perhaps they are fine for a few hundred years, but many have been buried for thousands or tens of thousands of years. At this stage, the consumption of lifespan becomes negligible; Burial Energy gives them a sense of immortality, a comprehension of the passage of time.

Time mercilessly grinds down those who lie prostrate atop the dragon, attempting to catch a glimpse of immortality, into dust.

Flesh, cultivation, Divine Soul, and will all decay.

"One path above all, how could it accommodate others? How could it accommodate you, a mere commoner! Ahhhhhh!"

Jun Yan tore off a handful of flesh, revealing bits of his skull, as the Heavenly Corpse descended from his body, and he finally regained some sanity.

But he knew it all seemed too late. Gu Wen was climbing the Sword Dao step by step, and yet none of them had even obtained a sword scabbard.

Turning to glance at the others, Xiao Yunyi was blankly staring at the Immortal Sword, entranced. Jade Sword Buddha was watching Gu Wen, and Chi Yu Zi’s face was full of stupefaction and irrepressible despair.

At this moment, pride was useless, and even Jun Yan tasted an indescribable bitterness.

They couldn’t ascend to the ninth level without the sword scabbard, whereas Gu Wen could reach the summit without it.

They too had cultivated the three swords; Xiao Yunyi went mad because of it, yet only Gu Wen mastered it by himself.

It wasn’t that they lacked confidence to contend with Gu Wen, but faced with the Immortal Sword, even the hardest bone bowed and snapped. The Immortal Sword chose Gu Wen, and even a nobody selected by it could surpass their talents.

This gap was enough to drive inheritors of the Three Religions to despair.

All because of one word, Immortal!

Immortal is an insurmountable chasm, a presence one cannot reach by talent alone. Even the Venerable is but a mayfly in the breath of an Immortal; as eternal as the sun and moon, they too can be plucked by an Immortal, vast as the stars, they can be stirred by an Immortal.

What right do they have to question the choice of the Immortal Sword?

"So no one dares to fight for it, huh?"

A voice resonated through Grotto Heaven, and Chi Yu Zi, radiating golden light, strode confidently towards the central sword scabbard.

Her voice awakened the others, and although she could have quietly claimed the scabbard, she loudly drew their attention instead.

Both forthright and emboldening herself, her steps were somewhat disorderly, her breath heavy. Chi Yu Zi knew she might be defying the will of a supreme being, but she had no other choice.

"Whether it’s destined or obtained by chance, I’m determined to have this Immortal Sword! It’s as if I would comply, but even if it’s an Immortal, I’ll rebel!"

Jun Yan subconsciously tried to use his Great Demon illusory form to interfere, but as a fiendish figure approached within a hundred paces of Chi Yu Zi, a golden light column as thick as a water bucket obliterated the illusion, leaving a deep fist imprint on the wall of the Grotto Heaven before it.

Grotto Heaven trembled.

Chi Yu Zi glanced back coldly, "Jun Yan, if you have no intention of defying an Immortal’s will, quit making a fool of yourself in front of me."

"....."

Jun Yan’s eyes darkened, his hand bones creaking from being clenched.

Madness, fighting a hopeless struggle?

The rest watched Chi Yu Zi silently as she stood before the sword scabbard, the True Sword Dao energies trying to push her back, pressuring her with her inferior mastery of the Sword Dao.

In its presence, her Sword Control technique seemed worthless; she needed to bow her head in submission.

Yet the scabbard was not the Immortal Sword, nor was it the former Sword Master. Chi Yu Zi stepped forward resolutely, grasping it tightly without hesitation.

Clang!

The sword’s clanging echoed through the Grotto Heaven, dazzling sword light shot out from Chi Yu Zi’s palm, spraying flesh and blood everywhere.

The indestructible Vajra body, protected by the Nine Revolutions Golden Pill’s Divine Skill, was as vulnerable as mortal flesh in that moment.

Thud!

Chi Yu Zi’s figure flew backwards, Jun Yan, Xiao Yunyi, and even the Jade Sword Buddha who muttered "Amitabha Buddha" remained silent.

Immediately after, a golden light swiftly returned to the front of the sword scabbard, and Chi Yu Zi grabbed hold of it again without any hesitation.

Her booming voice resonated:

"Profound Principle of Heaven and Earth, origin of all energies. Within and beyond the Three Realms, the Dao alone is supreme."

Her eyes, ablaze from the cracks in the golden radiance, burned fiercely, spreading through her body like wildfire, covering her in a shimmering golden aura, like a majestic cloak hundreds of meters long billowing around her.

The method of burning blood and life.

"Body radiant with golden light, overshadowing my form. Unseen to the eye, unheard to the ear."

Once more, Sword Qi lingered around the scabbard, the golden light suppressed it, yet the scabbard seemed impossibly heavy, unmovable as if weighing ten thousand pounds.
