Chapter 42: Chapter 42 Dealing with Individuals
"Oh..."
Upon hearing the words of the Mu family father and son, Elder Blood neither rejected nor accepted as he nodded noncommittally.
But what kind of person was Mu Jie? He was the emperor of the underground forces of Lan City, an expert in observing words and expressions.
Seeing Elder Blood’s demeanor, he sensed an opportunity and quietly took out a check from his person, handing it to Elder Blood while saying,
"Elder Blood, this is a small token of my appreciation, please don’t refuse it."
Upon seeing this, the Murderer stepped forward and took the check from Mu Jie’s hand, quickly glancing over it and seeing the amount of three million, a trace of greed flashed through his crimson eyes.
At that moment, his gaze towards the Mu father and son couldn’t help but become a bit more fervent.
One must know, although they were Martial Artists at present, it was improbable to acquire such an amount of money in a short period.
Moreover, their identities were quite sensitive now, and any misstep could lead to significant danger of exposure and thus, persecution from other so-called righteous Martial Artists.
Under such circumstances, even if they wanted to get money, there wasn’t an opportunity.
After all, whether it was cultivating or healing, weren’t resources like medicinal materials needed, and didn’t those require money to be bought in this mundane world?
Given that Mu Jie was such an easy mark, why should they refuse?
Thinking this, as the Murderer handed over the check to Elder Blood, he couldn’t help but suggest,
"Master, I think Mu Cheng, despite lacking talent in cultivation, can still be nurtured without concern according to our Cultivation Technique; it relies not on innate gift but can be wholly cultivated postnatally. Seeing how enthusiastic Mr. Mu is, shouldn’t we consider..."
Suddenly hearing the Murderer’s words, Mu Jie’s heart leapt in joy.
Without waiting for Elder Blood to respond, he immediately grabbed Mu Cheng’s hand and bowed down to Elder Blood.
"I sincerely request Elder Blood to accept my son as a disciple, and I, Mu Jie, will devote all my efforts to assist you in the future."
As Mu Jie spoke, Mu Cheng didn’t wait for his father’s command but banged his head heavily on the ground, earnestly saying,
"I earnestly request Elder Blood to take me as your disciple! I will be ready to serve you diligently and never refuse!"
Seeing this scene, a rare smile appeared on Elder Blood’s aged face, and he nodded, saying,
"So be it, from today onwards, you, Mu Cheng, will be my second successor."
Hearing Elder Blood’s response, Mu Jie finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Subsequently, the group exchanged pleasantries in the hall, after which Mu Jie departed, and Mu Cheng temporarily stayed back.
"Mu Cheng, now that you are my disciple, I naturally will not treat you unfairly."
As he spoke, Elder Blood pointed towards the Murderer and said, "This is your senior brother. Make sure to get along well with him. There are other matters I need to attend to today, so I won’t talk much longer. If you have any questions about cultivation, feel free to ask him."
"When the time is right, I will naturally teach you the Cultivation Method, alright?"
"Yes, Master, I will follow all your arrangements," Mu Cheng responded.
Mu Cheng, admittedly unexposed to ancient martial arts, didn’t quite grasp Elder Blood’s words, but he still nodded respectfully.
"Well, good, in that case, have a good discussion with your senior brother, I will leave now."
With that, Elder Blood’s form flashed, and the next second, he completely disappeared from Mu Cheng’s sight.
Suddenly witnessing this scene, Mu Cheng was initially stunned and then his face involuntarily revealed a shocked expression.
This time, the expression on his face wasn’t feigned but truly brought on by astonishment.
He couldn’t figure it out. How had a person who was right in front of him a moment ago disappeared into thin air in the blink of an eye?
Could this really be the cultivation ability his father had spoken of?
At that thought, Mu Cheng felt a surge of excitement.
If he could possess such power someday, wouldn’t that be incredible? What Zhu Fei? What Qiu Ruoxue—what would there be to fear?
"Hehe, how does it feel, junior brother?"
While Mu Cheng was lost in his thoughts, the sinister voice of the Murderer suddenly resonated next to his ear.
Mu Cheng started in surprise, but quickly plastered a flattering smile on his face.
"It’s... it’s amazing! The master, true to his reputation, is indeed a reclusive expert."
"Tsk—"
Little did he know, upon hearing Mu Cheng’s words, the Murderer let out a disdainful snort.
"Junior brother, aren’t you underestimating our master? The ability just demonstrated is merely the least noticeable of his skills."
As he spoke, the Murderer didn’t wait for Mu Cheng’s response but walked over to a nearby table and picked up a marble ashtray. He weighed it in his hand, then suddenly crushed it with a forceful grip.
With a "crack," the marble ashtray turned into powder in the Murderer’s hand and slowly flowed out from between his fingers, though his hand remained unharmed.
"This... Brother, you..."
Mu Cheng almost popped his eyes out, staring at the Murderer in utter shock.
"Hehe, it’s nothing. As long as you follow the master and cultivate diligently, reaching my level of ability will pose no difficulty whatsoever."
"Sss—"
Mu Cheng gasped sharply, watching the marble powder slowly flowing from between the Murderer’s fingers, and his heart thrilled once more.
It seemed his father had been wise to have him acknowledge Elder Blood as his master. If he could learn such skills...
With that thought, an idea sparked in Mu Cheng’s mind, and he couldn’t help but ask the Murderer:
"Brother, since you’re so powerful, could you perhaps help me deal with someone at a later time?"
"Deal with someone?"
The Murderer furrowed his brows upon hearing Mu Cheng’s request.
Before he could refuse, Mu Cheng quickly pulled out a bank card from his pocket and handed it to the Murderer:
"Brother, I, as your junior, don’t have much to offer you right now. There’s eight hundred thousand in this card, a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it for now."
The money Mu Jie had given Mu Cheng before arriving here, along with most of his own funds, had been nearly wiped out by Zhu Fei. His purpose in giving the card was, naturally, to foster a good relationship with the Murderer.
"Oh, who do you want me to deal with? As long as it’s not someone of our kind, consider their head delivered by your senior brother."
Seeing the bank card passed his way, a glint of greed flashed in the eyes of the Murderer, and he subtly pocketed the card.
He then looked at Mu Cheng again and continued, "Just a reminder, when I make a move, I tend not to leave any survivors."
