Chapter 82: Chapter 82 : The Military Recruitment (4)
Everyone was baffled at the ridiculously low score that Zhang Fengxi got.
Even Zhang Zhiyuan blinked a few times in disbelief. As Zhang Fengxi’s father, of course he gave his son ten out of ten. Same went with Zhang Fengxi’s future father-in-law, Liu Yichen.
"Judges, I would like to challenge the score," Zhang Fengxi said after all scores were announced.
Head Eunuch Gao turned to look at the panel of judges.
"Judges, please respond."
The judges discussed among themselves for a while before the Supreme General cleared his throat and said, "Based on the competition rules, the challenging participant must fight against one of the judges. Do you accept, Prince Zhang Fengxi?"
"Of course, as long as the judge is willing to strip down to the same basic armor and sword."
"Naturally," the Supreme General nodded in assent. He then let his gaze wander over the other judges.
Xie Jianyu at the end of the row rose to his feet.
"I gave Prince Zhang Fengxi the lowest score of all judges, so I will answer the challenge."
Zhang Fengxi widened his eyes at Xie Jianyu. In his head, he was screaming frantically.
Xie Jianyu, why??? They might not be bosom friends, but they had gone through at least one life-and-death experience together.
Zhang Fengxi tightened his grip around the basic sword’s hilt as he glared at Xie Jianyu.
The Supreme General cleared his throat.
"If Prince Zhang Fengxi wins, a new score will be given based on your performance. As the opponent, Crown Prince naturally does not get to give a rating. If Prince Zhang Fengxi loses, the Prince must accept the final score without any further objection. Is it clear?"
Zhang Fengxi nodded.
"It is."
Xie Jianyu calmly stepped away from the judge’s table.
Head Eunuch Gao and a few servants came over to help him take off his robe and put the basic armor on him.
Xie Jianyu swung the basic sword lightly and stepped onto the battle arena.
Zhang Fengxi took a deep breath and climbed onto the platform as well.
"..."
"..."
They had engaged in multiple confrontations before, but none of them fought to win. This time, Zhang Fengxi was determined to beat Xie Jianyu. He refused to enter the second competition with the score of six from the first competition hanging over his head.
The entire area was steeped in silence.
Zhang Fengxi’s performance was good, but Xie Jianyu was the best swordsman in the entire heaven. Zhang Fengxi’s defeat was practically written in the stars, so why did everyone unwittingly hold their breaths?
On the arena, the challenger and the judge walked in a circle while keeping each other in check.
"If you are not going to attack, I will," Xie Jianyu said in a calm, unhurried tone.
Zhang Fengxi shot him a smirk.
"Go ahead, Crown Prince."
Xie Jianyu closed his eyes and held his sword in front of his face.
In this competition, the use of spells was forbidden. Xie Jianyu thrived as the strongest swordsman because he wielded Winter Frost and mastered many sword cultivation manuals that he used to supplement his attacks. Without both, was he still the strongest?
Zhang Fengxi doubted that.
Xie Jianyu opened his eyes in a flash and disappeared, leaving only a whirlpool of dust in his wake.
Zhang Fengxi’s mouth dropped open in amazement.
The spectators cried out, "OOOOOOHHHHHH!!!"
In the next moment, Xie Jianyu appeared in front of Zhang Fengxi like a ghost, his sword pressing against Zhang Fengxi’s sword with a lot of strength.
"...!!!"
Where the hell did this guy come from???
"RAHHHHHHHH...!!!"
Zhang Fengxi pushed hard against Xie Jianyu. Cold sweat ran down his spine.
Xie Jianyu flipped in the air and launched another attack at Zhang Fengxi. The forceful impact caused Zhang Fengxi to slide backward to the edge of the arena.
Zhang Fengxi widened his eyes in shock. If he fell down the arena, he lost by default!
Zhang Fengxi ducked to avoid Xie Jianyu’s sword and jumped back into the center of the arena. After exchanging a few moves with the Crown Prince, Zhang Fengxi finally realized that he had underestimated Xie Jianyu greatly.
He might be an omega, but he was strong.
Too strong.
Zhang Fengxi gritted his teeth.
He knew that now, but he still could not lose! If he could not win, then all he could do was prolong the fight to earn points.
In the arena, Zhang Fengxi performed all kinds of acrobatic moves to dodge Xie Jianyu’s attacks. His own attacks did not even get to cut the Crown Prince’s shadow.
It was honestly painful to watch. Zhang Zhiyuan steepled his hands together in prayer. Lady Song covered her eyes with both hands and then peeked a few times only to howl in pain.
At last, the allocated time was over. Panting heavily on the ground like a man who was knocking at death’s door, Zhang Fengxi managed to get a re-evaluation for the first competition.
He earned himself an eight point five out of ten.
The sympathetic spectators broke into a cheer, but Zhang Fengxi’s sour expression was yet to disappear.
"Xie Jianyu, wait," he growled when Xie Jianyu turned to step down from the arena. "I need to have a word with you."
Xie Jianyu turned to look at him with an impassive facial expression. Lying on the ground, Zhang Fengxi looked especially pitiful.
"Participants are not allowed to discuss with the judges during the competition."
"I am not asking for preferential treatment," Zhang Fengxi said without further ado. No one could hear them among the loud cheering and chattering sound from the spectator area, anyway. "I just hope that you won’t deliberately sabotage me."
After Zhang Fengxi called him out on his unfair judgment, Xie Jianyu still had the cheek to sneer at him in response.
"I gave you a low score because of your poor sword form. I did not sabotage you at all."
"..."
What.
What!!!
Zhang Fengxi almost exploded in anger.
This seventeen-year-old brat Xie Jianyu dared to criticize his sword form???
