Chapter 66: Chapter 66 : Zhang Fengxi’s Counterattack

Jiang Muchen could not stand Zhang Fengxi.

He disliked the annoying young man on the first day of class at Crystal Jade Pavilion.

He hated the infuriating young man after he got involved with his Little Uncle so often afterward.

Even his usually gentle and amicable mother was unable to tolerate Zhang Fengxi’s impudence.

That’s why when Zhang Zhiyuan came up with the brilliant idea to hold a duel between him and Zhang Fengxi, Jiang Muchen quickly agreed to it.

The laws of the Heavenly Empire prohibited the residents from engaging in ungrounded fights.

This was Jiang Muchen’s golden chance to beat Zhang Fengxi up. And that was why he took care to invite Xie Jianyu to watch this duel.

After the duel concluded, Little Uncle’s respect for Jiang Muchen should soar. At the same time, both of them could rejoice in looking down at Zhang Fengxi with contempt.

Oh, the joy.

Jiang Muchen stood proudly at the elevated platform that had been transformed into a dueling arena for the two princes. He clutched a sword tightly in his hand while sneaking furtive glances at the people who sat under the spectators’ tent.

Xie Jianshen and Xie Jianyu sat together, chatting in a low voice with each other. Some distance away, Zhang Zhiyuan, Lady Song, and Jiang Rufeng sat together, laughed out loud, and poured one cup of wine one after another.

Soon, Commandant Jiang and Zhang Fengxi showed up.

Jiang Muchen wrinkled his brows in confusion when he saw the way Zhang Fengxi staggered toward the arena.

Commandant Jiang even had to help him climb up the steps. He looked like a dying person who longed for his last breath.

"Are you really okay?" Jiang Muchen heard Commandant Jiang ask his disciple. Zhang Fengxi merely gave a slight head nod.

Once Commandant Jiang left the arena, the tension between the two princes grew more with the passing minutes.

Zhang Fengxi was supporting himself with his spear. His head was lowered, and he was panting slightly.

Seeing his appearance, Jiang Muchen was at a loss for words.

He turned to look at Xie Jianshen and Jiang Rufeng alternately, asking them wordlessly what to do. Should he just run toward Zhang Fengxi and knock him off the arena with one blow?

Jiang Rufeng did not answer, but Xie Jianshen was mysteriously delighted by the development. He nodded at his son vigorously, as if telling him to go ahead.

"Oi," Jiang Muchen spoke to Zhang Fengxi. "Don’t blame me for your unpreparedness. I am just helping the Longjing Palace Master to test your aptitude in spearsmanship."

Jiang Muchen then ran toward Zhang Fengxi with a combat cry.

Fifteen steps...

Ten steps...

Five steps...

Two steps...

Zhang Fengxi still had not moved from his initial spot.

"RAHHHHHHHHHH...!!!!"

The yellow aura that surrounded his sword morphed into a roaring lion. Jiang Muchen’s eyes glowed brightly from the abundance of qi that encircled his body.

Captivated by the attack, those who watched automatically leaned forward to take a better look.

One step...

Zhang Fengxi opened his eyes and lifted his head.

He raised his spear just in time to meet Jiang Muchen’s sword.

A piercing sound was heard when the weapons clashed into each other. Both the spear and the sword were destroyed by the strength of the impact.

One moment later, Jiang Muchen’s body flew across the arena and skidded toward the edge of the elevated platform. His upper body hung from the edge of the elevated platform. Upside-down, Jiang Muchen gaped at his mother and Xie Jianyu in disbelief.

Meanwhile, Zhang Fengxi fell to his knees and fought against the immense pain that spread from his chest.

"Muchen!"

"Fengxi!"

Both pairs of parents went to take a look at their children.

Jiang Muchen turned to look at his Little Uncle. Xie Jianyu was by side. He was so happy. Until Xie Jianyu decided that he was doing perfectly fine and moved to take a look at Zhang Fengxi.

Jiang Muchen was close to tears.

"Little Uncle!" he cried out, but Xie Jianyu was already walking in Zhang Fengxi’s direction.

"Fengxi, what’s wrong with you?" Lady Song exclaimed. "Dear Gods! Someone help! Help my son!!!"

His mother was mistaken.

It was not "suddenly". He had been "sick" for days.

Zhang Fengxi turned his head and stared in Xie Jianshen’s direction. The culprit was not even looking in his direction.

"Zhang Fengxi, what happened?"

Xie Jianyu’s concerned voice was heard.

Just the right person to attract Xie Jianshen’s attention.

The Shuiran Palace Mistress lifted his head and stared at Zhang Fengxi.

"I am dying," Zhang Fengxi answered while sneaking glances at Xie Jianshen. "I don’t have long to live."

Lady Song tossed out a shrill cry into the sky.

"No! My son! You cannot say that!"

Xie Jianyu frowned. He took Zhang Fengxi’s wrist and felt his pulse. It was erratic.

"How long have you been sick?"

"It... It started a few days ago -- cough," Zhang Fengxi coughed. "It was right after I received the news that Jiang Muchen was going to be my opponent in this duel."

Zhang Zhiyuan raised an eyebrow at his son but thankfully he said nothing.

Jiang Rufeng unwittingly turned to look at his son.

Xie Jianshen’s eyes flashed dangerously.

Frightened by Zhang Fengxi’s subtle but unmistakable accusation, Jiang Muchen sat up and cried out, "I did not do anything to Zhang Fengxi!"

Zhang Fengxi clawed into Xie Jianyu’s arms and spoke like a terminally-ill patient.

"Crown Prince, please help. I don’t want to die."

Through his peripheral vision, Zhang Fengxi could see Xie Jianshen roll his eyes hard.

Zhang Fengxi laughed in his heart.

Thanks to the Gu Worm, he was unable to even ask for help. That did not necessarily mean that he was going to lay low and succumb to his fate.

There were many ways to launch a counterattack at Xie Jianshen.

For example, by accusing his son of the crime.

Any heavenly realm resident who involved themselves with demonic creatures faced severe punishments. They might even be banished from heaven.

Jiang Muchen’s entire life would be over, thanks to his mother.

Xie Jianshen glared in Zhang Fengxi’s direction. He decisively rose to his feet and said, "Prince Zhang Fengxi, I don’t think that your condition is that serious. Allow me to take a look. I have previously learned the Healing Art from the Grand Tutor himself."
