Chapter 448: Chapter 448 : Zhang Fengxi’s Foolishness
"On what ground???" Zhang Fengxi snapped at Xie Jianshen as he struggled to push himself to a sitting position.
"On the ground of endangering your own children -- my nephews, if you haven’t figured it out already, you fool!!!"
"..."
Zhang Fengxi was speechless for several seconds.
And then, a sense of dread washed upon him like a splash of icy water.
"Did something happen to Mingrui and Junjie...?"
Xie Jianshen narrowed his eyes at Zhang Fengxi. He carefully folded Qiao Wei’s letter and tucked it inside his chest.
"I want to see the content of that letter!" Zhang Fengxi demanded.
"Presumptuous," Xie Jianshen’s voice was akin to a whiplash against a bloody wound. "This letter is addressed to me, not to you. Unfortunately, Little Yu has come to realize that there is no use talking to you, thus he feels the need to talk to me directly."
Zhang Fengxi gritted his teeth.
"Will you please stop talking in riddles!" He snapped. "Put me on house arrest, but at least tell me what’s going on!"
A cold chuckle left Xie Jianshen’s lips.
"For someone so adept in military strategies and combat skills, Supreme General, your understanding of the machinations among the three realms is considerably shallow.
Every time you mess with fate, someone has to pay."
Xie Jianshen yanked Zhang Fengxi to his feet and scrutinized the dark chains circling his wrist full of interest.
"You may think that you have deceived fate because Junjie can manipulate the trajectories of stars, but all you did was shift the burden onto your innocent, little boys."
Xie Jianshen’s words struck Zhang Fengxi like a bolt of lightning. The little boy’s face turned pale in an instant.
"I need to go back," he murmured. "Aren’t you sentencing me to house arrest at Fuxi Palace? I need to go back NOW!"
Xie Jianshen’s hand shot out, wrapping around Zhang Fengxi’s lapels. His grip was tight, pulling him close until their faces were mere inches apart. The air between them crackled with unspoken tension.
"Go back and take care of your children," he said in a menacing tone. "You better pray that they do not sustain lasting damage from your carelessness, or you will never see them again until Little Yu wakes up."
With more important matters to take care of, Zhang Fengxi left the Golden Dragon Palace like the wind.
Xie Jianshen and Jiang Rufeng watched his departure with wary eyes.
"My little brother-in-law is amazing," Jiang Rufeng remarked. "To think that he divulged everything to you by just writing several lines."
Xie Jianshen turned to look at his husband with a smirk on his face.
"All Little Yu wrote in the letter was a request for my help to keep Zhang Fengxi safely locked up in the Heavenly Realm so that he could take care of Mingrui and Junjie."
"... Then why did you come down on him like an eagle tearing apart its prey?" Jiang Rufeng asked in bewilderment.
"Many reasons."
Xie Jianshen took Qiao Wei’s letter out of his chest and pressed it against his lips.
"Let’s go back to bed."
With a swish of his sleeves, the Heavenly Emperor then left without elaborating on his answer.
Jiang Rufeng chuckled, shaking his head as he trailed behind Xie Jianshen. Thank heavens Xie Jianyu was an omega, and also Xie Jianshen’s younger brother by blood. Otherwise, the fiery pangs of jealousy might have become a recurring torment for Jiang Rufeng for as long as he’s married to Xie Jianshen.
Wangshu streaked across the sky like a celestial thunderbolt, his descent marking a fiery arc before Fuxi Palace’s imposing gates.
Zhang Fengxi, barely alighting from the heavenly steed’s back, dismounted with a flurry of movement, urgency etched on his features.
"Who are you??" With lightning reflexes, the guards pivoted, spears crossing in a synchronized dance of steel.
"MOVE!" Rage contorted Zhang Fengxi’s features, a growl erupting from his throat like a caged beast. In a blur of motion, the Three Realm Spear materialized in his grasp. With a single, powerful sweep, he unleashed a shockwave that sent the guards flailing, clearing the path before him like fallen leaves in a whirlwind.
Zhang Fengxi tore across the front yard and made a beeline for Zhang Mingrui and Xie Junjie’s bedroom.
"Mingrui! Junjie!"
He flung open the door, expecting to see his twin sons slumbering soundly. Instead, a kaleidoscope of vibrant wings filled his sight, striking the cheek Xie Jianshen spared with a blinding flash. The impact sent him reeling into the ground a second time that night.
"Wha...?"
A scoff was heard, if a bird could scoff, that was.
[Foolish Supreme General,] the Goddess of Fate and Destiny’s voice was full of reproach. [Your insistence in interfering with the Human Realm almost resulted in irreparable damage.]
Zhang Fengxi’s heart leaped into his throat. He bolted upright and rushed to the boys’ bed. Zhang Mingrui and Xie Junjie were not in their bed. In their stead, a tiger cub and a dragon baby curled up into balls, a tangle of orange fur and glittering scales, tiny backs rising and falling in unison.
"MINGRUI! JUNJIE!!!"
Upon hearing Zhang Fengxi’s call, both small animals opened their eyes.
Zhang Mingrui whimpered slightly, tears forming in his large golden eyes. Xie Junjie sniffled quietly, putting a claw around Zhang Mingrui’s head in comfort.
"No... My babies, why..."
Zhang Fengxi took his transformed sons into his arms and cried bitterly.
"It’s my fault... It’s all my fault. I am so sorry... Mingrui, Junjie... Forgive your foolish father..."
Caihong scoffed a second time.
[Had you stayed at the Human Realm a day longer, your sons might have to pay with their lives. Supreme General, when will you learn to stop interfering with other realm’s business? Your place is here in the Heavenly Realm and nowhere else.]
Zhang Fengxi gritted his teeth.
"I wouldn’t have gone if I knew this was going to happen!"
Caihong gave Zhang Fengxi another merciless smack across the face.
[Aren’t we glad that the Crown Prince is a much better and wiser parent than you?]
