Chapter 409: Chapter 409 : Traveling Alone (3)
"I see," Qiao Wei said after Zhang Fengxi finished summarizing the events of the past five years for him.
"I am glad. I always knew that Big Brother would make a great ruler in my stead."
Zhang Fengxi arched his brow at Qiao Wei.
"And a tyrannical one with lots of eyes and ears scattered all over the Heavenly Realm."
Xie Jianyu’s awakening was supposed to be a closely guarded secret within the four walls of Fuxi Palace, but the Heavenly Emperor happened to hear about it.
Xie Jianshen literally descended from his throne and visited Fuxi Palace in person, only to find his beloved brother tucked neatly inside his bed chamber, his eyes squeezed shut as usual, responding to nothing and no one.
When Xie Jianshen’s mood soured, the shadow of his displeasure stretched long and wide, engulfing everyone in its reach.
He was particularly displeased with Zhang Fengxi, who took the chance to entangle with his wife as soon as the latter opened his eyes.
"Shameless," he said on that day.
Even with the supreme general kneeling in silent obedience, Xie Jianshen’s voice lashed out, a whip of scorn echoing through the chamber. "You were supposed to report this matter to me as soon as Little Yu opened his eyes!"
In order to placate Xie Jianshen, Zhang Fengxi said nothing in retort, lest the infuriated ruler might just decide to drag Xie Jianyu’s body off to the Golden Dragon Palace in the hope of being the first person Xie Jianyu saw when the latter opened his eyes again.
With a gentle touch, Qiao Wei patted Xie Junjie’s head, his hand momentarily resting like a comforting weight.
"Did you tell him how it happened?" He asked Zhang Fengxi.
"No, of course not. Thankfully, he also did not push for an answer."
"Mm. Does anyone else know?"
Zhang Fengxi shook his head.
"I thought that he would tell Jiang Muchen, but apparently he did not. The last time I saw Jiang Muchen, he did not challenge me to a duel, and I am thankful for that."
A soft smile played on Qiao Wei’s lips.
"Muchen is growing up," he said. "I can’t believe that he is Shuiran Palace Master now."
Irked by Qiao Wei’s praise of Jiang Muchen, Zhang Fengxi leaned closer, his expression sour. After all, he was the same age as Jiang Muchen.
"And what about me? Have I not grown up?"
Qiao Wei stared at the sour-faced Supreme General of the Heavenly Empire.
"Fengxi, you are too jealous," he remarked.
"Don’t switch the topic," Zhang Fengxi pinched Qiao Wei’s chin between his fingers.
"I don’t like you talking about other alphas in front of me."
"You also don’t like it when I talk about other people," Qiao Wei pointed out.
About Bai Ling, for example.
"My Jianbao is very smart," Zhang Fengxi whispered. "As expected of the Grand Tutor’s favorite student."
"Mmm..."
Qiao Wei was opposed to kissing in front of their children, but Zhang Fengxi, this horny alpha, did not seem to possess a drop of shame in his body.
"Ooooh, Mommy and Daddy are kissing," Zhang Mingrui’s voice rang out.
Qiao Wei’s eyes flew open. He quickly shoved Zhang Fengxi away.
Crunching through their meal, the twin boys couldn’t tear their gaze from the blossoming romance playing out before their eyes.
"Fengxi!"
Qiao Wei was mortified.
"Keep your hands to yourself!"
Zhang Fengxi broke into a grin.
"And what about you?" He asked.
"What about me?" Qiao Wei asked in confusion.
"I heard that your engagement with Bai Ling is broken."
Qiao Wei pressed his lips together.
"Little Ling is a nice person," he said. "It feels wrong to marry her when I do not love her."
"Aha. And I thought that you did harbor some feelings for her."
Qiao Wei glared at Zhang Fengxi.
"Do I need to spell out everything for you, Fengxi?"
With a chuckle, Zhang Fengxi reached after Qiao Wei’s hand and pressed a reverent kiss against his knuckles.
"Yes, please. You know that I am not as smart as you."
"... Shameless!"
Qiao Wei turned to his boys and said in an abashed voice, "Mingrui and Junjie, can you turn around for a bit?"
"Eh? Why?" Zhang Mingrui blinked at his mother in bewilderment.
Xie Junjie, ever the more sensible one between them, pulled at his brother’s arm and made him turn around the same time he did.
Qiao Wei’s arms, laced with sudden heat, snaked around Zhang Fengxi’s neck, pulling him close. Lips found lips in a searing rush, a molten meeting of fire and silk. Zhang Fengxi gasped, a tremor snaking down his spine as the kiss carved a path of desire that ignited something raw and primal in his lower region.
Zhang Fengxi pulled Qiao Wei to his lap and put his hands against the latter’s waist.
His touch was akin to a molten brand against Qiao Wei’s body. Muscles contracted under his palm, and a startled gasp caught in Qiao Wei’s throat. Then, a flicker of heat sparked between them, an ember fanned by Fengxi’s fingers that dug into the soft flesh.
Qiao Wei arched into the touch, a suppressed moan rasping against his lips as he felt the insistent pressure of Fengxi’s erection, hard and urgent against his thigh. It was a stark awakening, a beast roused from slumber, its hungry presence sending a tremor through Qiao Wei’s core.
"Um, Mommy, can we turn around now?" Zhang Mingrui innocently asked.
Qiao Wei scrambled off his lap, leaving Zhang Fengxi’s breath hitching against a sudden ache in his groin.
He knew, with a bitter pang, that he should behave. The watchful eyes of their children hung like heavy weights upon him, yet the tide of longing that had swollen within him for months refused to recede. His fingers curled into fists, knuckles white with the strain of holding back, the dam of propriety threatening to burst.
Zhang Fengxi pulled at Qiao Wei’s upper arm and whispered into his ear, the warmth of Zhang Fengxi’s breath against his skin sending shivers tingling down Qiao Wei’s spine.
"I will come to find you tonight. Do not say no."
