Chapter 391: Chapter 391 : Brewing A Sinister Plan
To make his nephews happy, the Heavenly Emperor Xie Jianshen sent almost a hundred new, colorful jianzis to Fuxi Palace as replacements.
They came with a note, "For one damaged or missing jianzi, you shall receive two replacements.
For one unwarranted trip to the Human Realm, you shall receive a hundred butt slaps each."
A written note from the Heavenly Emperor was no different from an imperial decree. Zhang Fengxi gladly pasted it on a scroll and hung it in the twins’ bedroom, just in case they forgot.
Before long, the two men arrived at the Bamboo Stream Village.
Having not been occupied by anyone for the past several months, the house in question was in a dilapidated state. The roof was leaking, some parts of the walls already crumbled, and the kitchen was laid waste by the last storm that passed through the village.
Seeing that the house required urgent renovation, the owner was more than happy to sell the small patch of land to Zhang Fengxi. He even thought that Zhang Fengxi was a little stupid. Because who would buy such a broken house to live in?
On the other hand, Zhang Fengxi had a good reason to pick exactly this damaged property.
It was located at the far end of the village, and people rarely had reasons to come by and take a look.
Zhang Fengxi needed privacy. A lot of it.
Two servants were busy cleaning the small house inside out when they looked up and saw Zhang Fengxi.
"Master has returned!"
Another servant was on top of the roof, fixing a few leaking spots. More were busy at the back side, rebuilding the kitchen and fixing the garden.
Qiao Wei was rather amazed. He counted at least ten servants at work!
It seemed that Zhang Fengxi was not only handsome, manly, and strong. He was also rich.
"Sorry, the house is not yet ready to receive guests," Zhang Fengxi said to Qiao Wei in a nonchalant tone. "Feel free to find me here. If I am not around, leave a message with my servants."
Qiao Wei nodded. Cupping his hands in front of Zhang Fengxi, he then excused himself.
"Brother Zhang, I will no longer intrude. As soon as I find out the exact date of the Spiritual Mountain Competition, I will come here personally to inform you. Let’s meet again soon."
"Sure."
After Qiao Wei left, Zhang Fengxi turned on his heel and called upon all of his servants.
"Keep a close watch on that man just now at all times," he said in a low voice. "Report anything unusual. Send me a message when he returns."
"Yes, Your Highness!" All servants answered in unison.
He was the Supreme General of the Heavenly Empire and also the father of two naughty twin boys, so he naturally did not have time to relax.
Zhang Fengxi rode on Xiao Huang and returned to Fuxi Palace soon after.
At Fuxi Palace, Xie Junjie and Zhang Mingrui were hitting each other with wooden swords.
"Ah, Mingrui, be careful!" Lady Song screamed in terror when she saw the tiger boy swinging his sword in a menacing way. "Don’t touch the horns!"
Shaken by his grandmother’s cries, Zhang Mingrui froze on the spot, giving Xie Junjie a chance to stab at his gut.
"AH!"
"An opening," Xie Junjie grinned at Zhang Mingrui.
"It was Grandma’s fault!" He cried out.
"Real men do not blame others for their fault," Zhang Fengxi remarked as he crossed the palace gate with a broad grin across his face.
"Daddy!"
"Daddyyy!!!"
Guided by an invisible thread of sibling rivalry and shared affection, the twins raced towards their father. They collided with his legs in a joyful tangle of tiny arms and legs, their giggles erupting like music in the air.
"Ufff. Babies, you have grown stronger."
Zhang Fengxi scooped his children up into his arms.
"And heavier," he added with an arched eyebrow as he bounced them against his chest.
"Of course they have. The Golden Dragon Palace has been sending a lot of food recently."
Keenly attuned to his mother’s moods, Zhang Fengxi could easily decipher the subtle displeasure lacing her words.
Xie Jianshen’s ascension to the Dragon Throne did not dampen Lady Song’s competitive spirit at all. In fact, the Longjing Palace Mistress believed that Xie Jianshen should take care of the empire and stop meddling with the twins.
"Mother, I am hungry," Zhang Fengxi said after he gave the boys a round of kisses.
"There are a lot of dishes to pick from," Lady Song said wearily. "Let me ask Mingyu and Qingyun to bring a plate of each."
"No, Mother, that’s not what I meant. I want to eat your cooking," Zhang Fengxi grinned. "Will you please cook for me?"
For a split second, Lady Song looked like she was about to break down and cry. She quickly masked her happiness with complaints.
"Oh, Fengxi, you are going to grind my old bones to dust," she lamented, but her feet readily took her to the kitchen.
"Daddy, does Grandma like cooking?" Zhang Mingrui asked.
"She likes cooking for the both of you most. When she cooks anything, please make sure to finish the food, hmm?"
"Yes, Daddy," the boys answered in unison.
"Good boys. Now, let’s begin with the sword training."
In contrast to the peace that settled upon the Heavenly Realm for the time being, feverish unrest pulsed within the veins of the Demonic Realm, its dark heart churning with the bile of repeated losses.
The Demon Kings, once titans of wrath, now bore the scars of their struggles, each defeat a jagged mark etched upon their pride.
The First Demon King sat on his Dark Moon Throne, leaning to one side while raising one leg to his side in a lax manner.
His gaze drifted from one dark face to another, his lips tugged up into an amused smile.
"Another embarrassing defeat?" He taunted with a tone of mockery.
