Chapter 355: Chapter 355 : Celebration (1)

Zhang Mingrui and Xie Junjie had the habit of taking a nap in the mausoleum every afternoon after lunch, right on top of their mother’s body.

Although Xie Jianyu was unable to interact with his sons, they were more than happy to cuddle and inhale his sweet, calming scent.

The constant flow of spiritual power that permeated the air kept the room warm, just perfect to make two little boys fall asleep within seconds.

"Junjie," Zhang Mingrui mumbled, his voice thick with sleep and the remnants of a dream.

"Mmm..." came Xie Junjie’s answer, his own consciousness clinging to the sheets like a spiderweb in the morning dew.

Zhang Mingrui reached out to touch his brother.

"Does your horn still hurt? Ouch!!!"

A sharp whip of Xie Junjie’s tail made the latter withdraw his hand with a cry of pain.

Xie Junjie mumbled against the quilt, "You are not allowed to touch my horns, ever again."

"I won’t dare to do anything to them!" the other little boy cried out. "Imperial Uncle told me that if I broke any of your horns again, he was going to pull at my ears until they were as long as a rabbit’s!"

Xie Junjie’s lips twitched with barely contained mirth. The image of Zhang Mingrui sporting fluffy rabbit ears sent a tremor through his entire being. He had to bite his lip hard in order to suppress the laughter bubbling within him like a cauldron of mischievous joy.

Alas, his quivering form betrayed him.

"... You are laughing at me, aren’t you Junjie?" Zhang Mingrui asked with a flat and yet accusatory tone.

Xie Junjie could not take it anymore. He laughed so hard that he almost fell from the bed.

"Junjie, you are so mean!" Zhang Mingrui wailed out loud.

"Sssshhhhh!"

Xie Junjie quickly slid over to his brother and pressed a hand against Zhang Mingrui’s lips to silence him.

"Don’t be too loud! If you are too loud, the aunties will come to take us away!"

"Oh. Right."

The little tiger clammed up almost immediately. Both boys closed their eyes in an attempt to fall asleep again, but Zhang Mingrui sneakily opened his eyes a while later, his gaze fixed on Xie Junjie’s left horn.

The magical string that their father tied around the horn had vanished. Within it, bluish energy danced like fireflies in a moonlit forest. The horn looked as good as new.

A sigh of relief, soft as a butterfly’s wing, fluttered through Zhang Mingrui’s chest. He cuddled closer to Xie Junjie’s warm body and fell asleep quickly.

An hour later, Mingyu and Qingyun climbed up the high steps to the mausoleum to pick up the boys.

As always, the boys were reluctant to leave. It was a daily chore to peel them away from their mother.

"Young Master Mingrui, Young Master Junjie, dinner is going to be ready soon!" Qingyun said in an attempt to coax them.

Incoherent mumbles from the brothers told her that normal food no longer did the trick.

"Young Master Mingrui, Young Master Junjie, your esteemed father has returned from the Human Realm."

Their eyes flew open quickly.

"Daddy is home!"

Like a hurricane, Zhang Mingrui launched himself off the bed and stormed out of the mausoleum.

Xie Junjie had to crawl like a crab across the bed before he chased after his brother.

"Mingrui, wait for me!"

"Daddy!"

"Daddy, Daddy!"

Zhang Fengxi was in the middle of a conversation with Wu Shenxia when the two little boys tumbled toward him on their tiny feet.

The supreme general immediately broke into a wide grin, everything else was forgotten.

"My beautiful babies," he cooed as he scooped them up with ease and gave each of them a loud kiss on the forehead.

The two little boys shrieked happily when they were cuddled against their father’s broad, warm chest.

Wu Shenxia could not help but smile at the adorable children.

"My, my. Mingrui and Junjie grow up really fast," she commented.

Zhang Fengxi chuckled, "Oh, yes. I can hardly believe that five years had already passed."

Wu Shenxia reached out to tickle the boys’ stomachs, eliciting a chorus of erupting giggles out of them in response.

"Then, I will return to the base right now. We shall report if we discover anything unusual with the enemy forces."

"Do you not want to stay for dinner?"

"Sadly, I can’t," Wu Shenxia said with a touch of regret. "I need to go back to Juhua Palace as well. My wife is due soon, and I want to be there for her."

"Send my greetings to Wanrong," Zhang Fengxi bounced his sons in his arms playfully.

After rising to the Juhua Palace Master position five years ago, Wu Shenxia had been working like a mule to rebuild the ox clan from the smoldering ashes and crumbling rubbles that remained from Wuyang Palace’s invasion.

Her arduous efforts did not go unrewarded. Juhua Palace came back stronger than ever under her reign, returning the ox clan within the top ranks of the Heavenly Realm.

Once everything stabilized two years ago, Wu Shenxia dedicated herself to a new mission. A palace master could not rule alone, so she started looking for a decent omega to fill the Juhua Palace Mistress position and rule the clan by her side.

As soon as he heard the news, Zhang Fengxi started dragging Song Wanrong with him to visit Wu Shenxia almost every week.

It took tons of awkward smiles and stilted conversations until they started seeing each other without his assistance.

After delving into a deep, exclusive relationship with each other for three months, Wu Shenxia and Song Wanrong finally tied the knot.

Right now, Song Wanrong was pregnant with their first child.

"Of course. She misses you and the boys a lot. Do come to visit Juhua Palace when you have time."

"I will."

Zhang Fengxi and his boys waved goodbye to Wu Shenxia as she crossed the darkening sky on her sword.

"Let’s have dinner together," Zhang Fengxi looked down at his sons. "Are you both hungry?"

"Yes!" They both cried out in unison.

Tonight’s dinner was a little special.

When the door to the dining chamber opened, the two little boys could not help but widen their eyes in astonishment.
