Chapter 329: Chapter 329 : The Final Battle (7)
Out of reflex, she reached out to dislodge the blade from Liu Wenyuan’s waist. The intense pain that ensued when she removed it almost prompted the omega to pass out.
The blade dropped to the ground with a loud clanging sound. The Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer then ripped off the cloth that stuck to the wound in order to inspect the wound. Having served many roles in both the Human Realm as well as the Demonic Realm, she was used to seeing any kind of injuries. Still, she could not help but suck in a deep breath when she caught sight of the gruesome deformation that marred Liu Wenyuan’s waist.
The stab wound had begun its descent into the depths of decay, a grim tableau of flesh succumbing to the relentless march of infection. The once vibrant hues of his skin had been replaced by an ominous pallor, a chilling testament to the insidious toxins that were slowly consuming his flesh.
The Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer’s lips fell open in shock.
"Wolfsbane concentrate," she slowly said as she gazed at the knife that lay on the stone floor, its blade gleaming with Liu Wenyuan’s blood.
Wolfsbane plant contained a lethal toxin that was naturally deadly to wolves.
Judging from the wound’s appearance, the poison maker probably mixed in other potent poisons as well. The poison mixture was specifically tailored to kill wolves in the most agonizing way.
"What did you just say...?"
Liu Wenyuan tried to move by supporting his weight on his intact elbow, but his injuries were too severe. Eventually, overwhelmed by the excruciating pain that engulfed his senses, he decided to just lie on the floor and accept his fate.
Eyes drifting to the ceiling, he asked, "What happened to me? Why... why are you not helping me?"
"I can’t," the Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer declared. "Liu Wenyuan, you are going to die soon."
Liu Wenyuan widened his eyes in shock. Despite the pain that ravaged his body, he used his intact elbow to push his upper body up and grabbed the Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer by her lapels.
"What... What are you saying? What is the meaning of this? This kind of injury should be easy for you to heal!"
The woman peeled Liu Wenyuan’s fingers from the front part of her robe.
"The injuries, yes, but the poison, no. It is too late to treat you. The poison has already spread into your body. Your organs will shut down one by one, and then you will die."
"No... No, no, no!!!"
The stark reality of Liu Wenyuan’s impending demise brought forth an unceasing flow of tears from his sallow cheeks, an uncontrollable cascade of grief and surrender.
"No, please help. Help me, someone help me...!"
"No one can help you," the Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer decided. A veil of solemnity settled upon her features as she rose to her feet.
She looked down at the dying omega at her feet and sincerely said, "I am sorry."
"No, wait! Wait! Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer! I am sure that there is something you can do! Please help! I don’t want to die yet...!"
The woman walked across the room with resolute steps, ignoring Liu Wenyuan’s heart-rending cries for help.
With a graceful flourish of her hand, she dismantled the soundproof barrier that had cloaked the room, severing its isolation from the turmoil that had engulfed Wuyang Palace for hours.
The moment the barrier fell, a tempest of sounds surged in like a stampede of untamed bulls, forcefully reclaiming the room from its tranquil seclusion.
The flame of war raged outside of the Wuyang Palace. From her vantage point, the Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer could see several opponent banners flying high -- the Fuxi Palace, the Longjing Palace, the Shuiran Palace, and another unknown banner that flew above mighty troops that swore their allegiance to the Crown Prince.
It was hopeless, really.
The First Demon King removed himself from the nearest fight and stepped upon a few bodies on his way back.
"Has he returned?" He asked his loyal subordinate.
The Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer bowed her head.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"And? Did he succeed?"
The woman shook her head.
"I don’t think that he even came close. He is dying, Your Majesty."
A hollow, mirthless chuckle echoed from the First Demon King’s throat, its icy resonance sending shivers down the spines of all who heard it. His eyes, twin pools of amusement, sparkled with morbid delight as he watched Liu Wenyuan’s trembling form cower on the cold, unforgiving stone floor.
"I guess even someone as resilient as him cannot escape death. Fuxi Palace made the right decision to leave a capable person behind to protect the Crown Prince."
The First Demon King, his colossal form taut with exertion, released a series of sharp cracks from his knuckles as he stretched his arms and torso, his movements echoing the rumbling of an awakening leviathan.
"In that case, there is no use of us staying here. Open up a portal, let us return to the Demonic Realm."
The Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer obediently traced the air with her finger. Once the spell was completed, a dark portal opened up and the First Demon King stepped inside.
His faithful subordinate followed in his wake, her ears attuned to the faint echoes of Xie Jianzhi’s terror-stricken cries as he desperately sought information about the First Demon King’s whereabouts.
Yet, the Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer brushed aside these pleas, for the fate of the Heavenly Empire was no longer their burden to bear. Though their mission to seize control had failed, the First Demon King had succeeded in sowing discord and chaos throughout the Heavenly Realm.
Even more importantly, the internal conflicts within the Heavenly Realm had given them time to regain control over the Demonic Realm.
By the time the First Demon King returned to his palace to reclaim the Dark Moon throne, the loyal Demon Kings had ended the riots perpetrated by the disloyal ones.
"There is no place sweeter than home," he remarked with an evil smirk across his face.
