The emergency flares stopped shooting into the night sky, their red glow fading away in the darkness. The eunuchs, who had been desperately seeking help from the other palaces, lay dead on the ground, their bodies bathed in blood.

Confusion was eternalized in the younger ones’ faces, for they were pulled out of sweet slumber so suddenly and murdered in cold blood.

The creatures who invaded the Heavenly Realm hailed from the depths of the Demonic Realm. They were grotesque and terrifying, with twisted limbs, razor-sharp claws, and fangs dripping with venom.

No one knew how they got into the palace, save for the leader of the operation himself.

Xie Jianzhi crossed the entrance gate of the Golden Dragon Palace and walked in languid steps across the vast palace courtyard. Left and right, everywhere on the palace ground, he could see guards fighting against the demons, servants getting stabbed everywhere, and maids getting cut by sharp blades.

Resistance was futile, because the invasion happened in the middle of the night, with no warning whatsoever.

Xie Jianzhi observed one of the ensuing fights. He recognized one of the sycophants who offended him back then.

"Ah...!!!" The guard tossed out a terrified cry when he saw Xie Jianzhi. And then, he was impaled by a demon’s claw and fell dead on the spot.

Xie Jianzhi’s smile widened, revealing sharp, predatory teeth. His eyes gleamed with malice as he surveyed the carnage before him.

He was the heir to the Golden Throne, and he would not suffer any defiance. Those who did not acknowledge his authority would pay the ultimate price.

"Your Majesty," a sweet voice rang out behind him.

Xie Jianzhi turned to face Liu Wenyuan, his gaze lingering on the omega’s delicate features.

The omega was dressed in a simple white robe that accentuated his slender figure and pale skin. His long black hair was tied together into a loose ponytail, revealing the graceful curve of his neck.

"My Empress, you are here."

Xie Jianzhi took Liu Wenyuan in his arms and kissed him deeply, amidst the brutal massacre that took place around them. He felt a surge of power and satisfaction as he tasted Liu Wenyuan’s sweet lips.

This was how it felt to be on top of the world, he thought to himself.

Tonight, all his wishes were about to come true.

He was going to reclaim the spot that belonged to him, and his beautiful Wenyuan was going to rule by his side.

Xie Jianzhi’s lips hungrily devoured Liu Wenyuan’s, his tongue exploring every inch with wanton abandon. He sucked greedily, as if he couldn’t get enough of Liu Wenyuan’s taste. Finally, he pulled away with a triumphant smile, leaving the omega’s lips swollen and glistening with their combined saliva.

"Have you rescued your father?"

Liu Wenyuan beamed at him.

"Yes. Father is safe now. I have arranged for him to go back to Wuyang Palace."

"Very good."

"Your Majesty."

A gigantic demon emerged from the chaotic palace ground. His massive, thick black scales gleamed in the firelight as he emerged from the rubble, dwarfing the creatures who stood before him with his massive body.

A pair of shiny yellow eyes glowed with malevolent intelligence, surveying the scene with a cold, calculating gaze.

The demon closed the distance between them in a few strides, its massive feet crushing the rubble and stone beneath them. It came to a halt before Xie Jianzhi and Liu Wenyuan, its towering form casting a shadow over them. It fell to one knee with a thunderous thud, its head bowed in submission.

"We have seized the Emperor and locked him up in the study."

"Ah."

Xie Jianzhi chuckled.

The study. This place was the perfect place to sever the last of his ties to his biological father.

Xie Jianzhi squeezed Liu Wenyuan’s hands affectionately.

"My Empress, do give me some time. I am going to put an end to this."

Liu Wenyuan shot him a sweet smile.

"Don’t worry, Your Majesty. I am going to have a chat with the current Empress. Maybe we can come to a mutual understanding."

"Do that. Ah, yes."

Xie Jianzhi eyed the sword that hung from the gigantic demon’s waist with growing interest. Against the demon’s massive figure, it looked like a needle.

Judging from the meticulous carvings on the sword’s silver handle, he knew that it was quite valuable.

"Where did that sword come from?" He asked.

The demon felt around his waist before his big fingers bumped against the sword’s hilt.

"I took it from my last opponent. If I am not mistaken, he was one of the generals of the military."

Xie Jianzhi smirked.

"Who, Zhang Fengxi?" he asked full of hope.

To his greatest dismay, the demon shook his head.

"When I cut off his head, I heard someone call him ’General Fu’."

Xie Jianzhi scoffed.

"Oh, well. Let Zhang Fengxi live a little longer. Although..."

He circled an arm around Liu Wenyuan’s waist intimately and pulled him close.

"He owes a great debt to my Empress. Would you like to make him pay all at once?"

Liu Wenyuan’s smile widened.

"Your Majesty is too generous. Alas, I am just a weak omega at your disposal. I shall leave him to you. Do whatever you want to him."

Liu Wenyuan wore a gracious mask, but beneath it, his heart was filled with venom. He had been poisoning Xie Jianzhi’s mind with stories of Zhang Fengxi’s cruelty and arrogance. He had even told Xie Jianzhi that Zhang Fengxi had tried to force himself on him, but that he had resisted.

Liu Wenyuan watched with satisfaction as Xie Jianzhi’s eyes burned with hatred and rage. He knew that he had planted the seeds of discord between the two men, and he could not wait to see the harvest.

"Very well."

Xie Jianzhi extended his hand toward the demon.

"Lend me that sword. I will personally coat it with the blood of the Heavenly Emperor before I give it back to you."
