The sound of languidly approaching footsteps almost drove Xie Jianzhi insane.

"Who in seven hells are you???" He exclaimed while looking around in panic.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk..."

The First Demon King emerged from the shadows, his silhouette bathed in the eerie light of the Demonic Realm. His head was held high, and his eyes gleamed with mockery.

Despite rumors that he had lost his throne and status, he still retained an air of majesty. His long, flowing robes billowed behind him, and his horns gleamed like polished obsidian.

"It is very impolite to enter a person’s dwelling and then ask who the person is, don’t you think?"

"D-d-d-demon!!!" Xie Jianzhi sputtered.

"Heh."

The First Demon King’s arm shot forward like a vicious snake, its long fingers wrapping around Xie Jianzhi’s neck like a vice. He tried to struggle but the Demon King was too strong.

Xie Jianzhi’s panic increased a hundredfold when he realized that his feet were no longer touching the ground. He was suspended in mid-air, dangling at the mercy of the Demon King.

The Heavenly Emperor’s only alpha offspring looked into the Demon King’s eyes and saw a cold, pitiless gaze. The Demon King was enjoying Xie Jianzhi’s terror.

"Demons love to eat heavenly creatures, did you know that?" He asked with a sinister smile hanging from his lips.

"You would be surprised how the likes of you taste like, grilled over open fire with proper seasoning."

"Ahhh...!!! Arghhh...!!! Ooof...!!!"

"Your Majesty, please have mercy," a soft male voice announced himself from behind the First Demon King.

The First Demon King chuckled.

"Liu Wenyuan, did you mistake your position here? Do I need to have mercy whenever you need me to have mercy?"

Liu Wenyuan had an unreadable expression on his face. His eyes lingered on Xie Jianzhi’s blue face for a while before he fell on his knees and begged earnestly, "Your Majesty, this servant begs for your mercy. Please exercise leniency on this servant’s behalf!"

The First Demon King scoffed in response.

"On your behalf, heh. Do you think that you are worth that much?"

He then flung Xie Jianzhi against the nearest cave wall. The alpha slammed hard against the rocky surface before he slid downward like a broken doll.

Liu Wenyuan remained in his kneeling position.

The First Demon King crouched in front of him and snickered.

"Well, you were once an Ethereal Beauty. I guess you are more worthy than average omegas."

Liu Wenyuan kept his gaze trained to the ground. The First Demon King grabbed his jaw and forced him to look up.

"You must be so proud of your beauty, hm?"

"..."

Liu Wenyuan said nothing in return.

"Go ahead and take care of your fellow heavenly creature," the First Demon King sneered at him. "It is good to meet good friends after all this time, hahahahaha!!!!"

Liu Wenyuan waited until the First Demon King left before he rushed toward Xie Jianzhi and helped him up.

"I am sorry," he said with an apologetic face. "His Majesty’s temper flares up now and then. Who are you and why did my father send you here?"

Xie Jianzhi panted hard, his chest heaving. His ribs felt bruised, and his lungs ached.

"Your... Your father... Cough, cough, cough!!!"

"Oh, my. Come with me. We should not talk outside."

Liu Wenyuan led Xie Jianzhi to a small chamber deeper inside the cave. The chamber was small and cramped, but it was cleaner than the rest of the cave.

There was an elevated stone platform with a thin blanket that served as a bed, a stone table, and three round stones that served as chairs. There were also a few flowers on the table, adding a touch of brightness to the otherwise gloomy chamber.

The chamber smelled as foul as the rest of the cave, but it was clear that Liu Wenyuan had taken care to clean it as best as he could. Xie Jianzhi pitied Liu Wenyuan greatly.

The omega was born and raised as a prince of Wuyang Palace, surrounded by wealth and beauty. Now, he was forced to live in this squalid cave, bending his knees before the Demon King.

"Please have a drink."

Liu Wenyuan pushed a cup of transparent liquid in Xie Jianzhi’s direction. Its rim was slightly chipped.

The alpha eyed the cup suspiciously.

"What is this?"

"Water. Don’t worry, it’s fresh. I get it from the nearest spring in the Human Realm every morning."

"Oh, thank you."

Xie Jianzhi furrowed his brows as he took a sip.

The water was no longer fresh. It tasted slightly sour, presumably due to the foul air in the Demonic Realm.

"Your esteemed father has been arrested by the Heavenly Emperor," Xie Jianzhi put the broken cup back on the table.

A cold glint flashed across Liu Wenyuan’s eyes when he heard the news.

"For what crime?"

The question caught Xie Jianzhi off guard. He shook his head regretfully.

"I am sorry, I don’t know. I am not allowed to join the morning meeting, so..."

"I see."

Liu Wenyuan fell into a deep thought. Xie Jianzhi was unable to read his expression. All he saw was a beautiful omega who had fallen from grace.

"Thank you for informing me," Liu Wenyuan then said slowly. "I will take care of this issue."

Xie Jianzhi’s eyes lit up.

"Prince Liu Wenyuan, your father has been nothing but good to me. Please allow me to help."

Liu Wenyuan stared at him.

"Are you not the Heavenly Emperor’s son?"

Again, Xie Jianzhi was caught off guard.

Xie Jianzhi was not sure if the Heavenly Emperor even considered him as his son, his flesh and blood. So far, the ruler of the Heavenly Empire had been keeping him at arm’s length.

"Palace Master Liu has been too kind to me," Xie Jianzhi repeated. "I don’t think there is anything wrong with repaying favors."

Liu Wenyuan gave the alpha a knowing smile.

"Absolutely," he agreed. "I am all about paying favors."
