"Your Highness, it was His Majesty himself who ordered Palace Master Liu’s detainment. We are just doing our job. Please do not make things difficult for us."

Liu Yichen reached out and grasped Xie Jianzhi’s wrist, his grip firm and steely.

"Xie Jianzhi," he said, his voice raspy and strained. "If you truly cherish our friendship, I beg of you, inform my wife of my current predicament. She will know what to do."

Xie Jianzhi gritted his teeth, his jaw tense with anger and determination. "I will," he promised. "Palace Master Liu, I will get you out of this dungeon, no matter the cost."

Liu Yichen nodded weakly, then released Xie Jianzhi’s wrist.

"Thank you, Xie Jianzhi."

True to his word, Xie Jianzhi departed for Wuyang Palace immediately. The news he bore was nothing short of earth-shattering.

Lady Wen’s face paled to the color of milk as she listened to Xie Jianzhi’s recitation of events. Her breath caught in her throat, and her vision blurred. She swayed precariously on her feet, her heart pounding in her chest like a trapped bird.

Xie Jianzhi’s heart lurched as he saw Lady Wen’s delicate form teeter on the verge of collapse. He lunged forward and grasped her arm, steadying her against the impending fall.

Her maids rushed forward, their faces etched with worry.
