Chapter 284: Chapter 284 : We Are Just Friends
Zhang Fengxi sat at one of the corner tables in the restaurant with several sheets of paper, an ink pad, and an ink brush.
He had two letters to write.
The first one was addressed to his father, the Longjing Palace Master.
The second one was addressed to Xie Jianshen, the Shuiran Palace Mistress.
His letter to his father was fairly short, confirming that he had recovered Xie Jianyu in a safe condition, and that they were going back to the Heavenly Realm soon.
He imagined that his lady mother was going to be pretty excited about having Xie Jianyu back.
His letter to Xie Jianshen contained an important message that he was unable to convey as it was.
"Dear Shuiran Palace Mistress,
I found Jianyu in a town in the Human Realm by the name of Rainbell Town. Both mother and baby are doing fine.
I have seen the error of my ways, and decided to support my wife’s decision in the future instead of taking action on my own. I deeply apologize for implicating you in my household problems.
Zhang Fengxi."
Zhang Fengxi read the letters again and again before he magically sealed them.
The general strolled outside the Rainbell Town and whistled.
A gigantic tiger soon descended from the sky to answer his summon. Zhang Fengxi rubbed his mount affectionately behind the ears.
"Xiao Huang, I have two letters here."
He showed the tiger the two sealed letters in his hand.
"One goes to Longjing Palace, the other to Shuiran Palace. Quickly go and return."
Xiao Huang growled in understanding.
Zhang Fengxi put the letters in a small pouch and hung it around Xiao Huang’s neck.
"Go now."
The spiritual tiger kicked off the ground and soared toward the sky.
Zhang Fengxi then went to the spot where Liu Wenyuan disappeared the previous night.
Traces of evil always left their mark. While the evildoers themselves were aware of it, they did not usually bother hiding their footsteps. It was because they carried a certain sense of pride.
Zhang Fengxi dug out a patch of soil from the ground and put it into a small bag that he procured from a shop. He then put a small barrier around the bag to prevent the evil traces from leaking out.
The alpha tilted his head upward and stared off into the distance.
Now that Liu Wenyuan had given himself to the dark side, tracking him would be a lot easier. The question was rather -- what would happen to Wuyang Palace once the news spread?
Zhang Fengxi shook his head in regret over Liu Wenyuan’s foolish actions.
The entire wolf clan was going to suffer the consequences.
He flicked his sleeves and walked back into Rainbell Town.
Wuyang Palace no longer concerned him.
The most important thing right now was to get Xie Jianyu back to the Heavenly Realm, safe and sound.
At the backside of Lucky Pearl restaurant, Ah Yan’s heart was crumbling into pieces.
"But Master, whyyyyy...!!!"
Xie Jianyu’s heart was overflowing with guilt.
"I am sorry, Ah Yan. I need to go back home for now."
"But Master! I have not learned anything yet!"
Xie Jianyu sighed inwardly. With Ah Yan’s regretfully lacking talent, it was already a miracle that he had not given up yet.
"Today will be the last day I teach you," Xie Jianyu said. "Let’s make it count. The rest will depend on your hard work and luck."
"I understand." Ah Yan sniffled. "In that case, let’s go now!"
The young man grabbed Xie Jianyu’s wrist and pulled him toward their usual training place.
Astonished, Xie Jianyu asked, "Did your mother not ask you to haul the freshwater fishes into the kitchen?"
Ah Yan dismissed Xie Jianyu’s concern with a handwave.
"Oh, someone will do it for me. Mom will punish me later, but that’s fine. Sword training is more important."
"...."
The pedestrians on the street saw two young men who had a very good relationship with each other. They looked almost like two brothers, despite their vastly different appearances.
Only one person did not share this impression, and it was Xie Jianyu’s husband, who came into the town from the opposite direction.
The alpha’s diplomatic smile was a thin veneer, barely masking the dangerous glint in his eyes. His presence was like a dark cloud casting a shadow over the once-joyful scene.
"Oh, look who it is," Zhang Fengxi said while cracking his fingers in a menacing way.
Ah Yan, oblivious to the murderous aura radiating from Zhang Fengxi, beamed brightly at his other benefactor, whose return he had eagerly anticipated, but whom he had yet to meet.
"Young Master!" He cried out. "So good to see you again! I am so sad that my master is leaving so soon. Can you two not stay a little longer?"
Zhang Fengxi shifted his gaze towards Xie Jianyu, his fake smile shifting into a chilling sneer at the sound of the words "my master".
The general pulled at Xie Jianyu’s other arm and yanked him away from Ah Yan’s grip.
"Too bad, I need him to come back home."
Ah Yan gaped at Zhang Fengxi, confused by the unexpected display of possessiveness.
"Young Masters, I have always wondered," he slowly said as he rubbed his chin. "Are you two by chance brothers?"
"No," Xie Jianyu answered. It was an utterly disturbing thought, to imagine these two men as brothers, given the countless times they had been intimately entwined, their bodies and souls molded together in a dance of desire and passion. "We are just friends."
Zhang Fengxi’s face twisted into a mask of pure fury, his features contorting in a grotesque display of rage.
Friends, eh? Friends???
Despite the imminent danger, Ah Yan cheerfully continued speaking.
"Master is giving me one last lesson in swordsmanship. Young Master, do you want to come as well?"
"No need, he..."
Zhang Fengxi intertwined his fingers with Xie Jianyu’s and squeezed them.
"Thank you for the invitation. I would love to go and practice together."
