Chapter 282: Chapter 282 : A Very Good Question For The General
Poor Mingyu did not dare to knock on Xie Jianyu’s door this morning. She merely waited outside with black circles around her eyes and a pounding heart.
Eventually, the door cracked open and the prominent couple stepped out into the corridor.
"Mas...!!!"
Mingyu quieted down when he saw Zhang Fengxi arching his brow behind Xie Jianyu.
"Let’s go, Mingyu. Let’s have some breakfast together."
"Jianbao, I want us to talk alone," Zhang Fengxi pointed out.
Xie Jianyu gave him a cold stare.
"Can it not wait? I am famished."
"... Of course it can."
The three people descended the staircase, Xie Jianyu and Zhang Fengxi leading the way. The beta maid blinked at the couple in front of her, unable to make sense of what she was seeing.
Xie Jianyu’s demeanor was a far cry from that of an omega bride in his honeymoon phase. He appeared tense and withdrawn, his cheek muscles twitching from time to time.
And yet, he didn’t seem to mind Zhang Fengxi’s arm around his shoulder and waist. In fact, he leaned into Zhang Fengxi’s touch subtly several times, as if seeking comfort.
Zhang Fengxi, on the other hand, was the picture of gentleness and care. He treated Xie Jianyu as if the latter were made of glass, his movements slow and deliberate. His eyes were constantly on Xie Jianyu, and he seemed to be anticipating his every need. But there was something underlying his gentleness, a hint of anxiety or perhaps even fear.
So, were they fighting or not? The beta maid couldn’t tell. She could only sense the simmering tension between the two men. It was as if they were both walking on eggshells, both afraid to make a wrong move.
"Mingyu, the tea."
Mingyu’s heart almost jumped out of her chest when she heard Xie Jianyu’s voice.
The tea that she was pouring into Xie Jianyu’s cup was already overflowing, drenching the table beneath the sheet.
"I am so sorry, Master!"
Once she was done pouring the tea, Mingyu quickly rushed to find the tea house attendant and asked for his help to clean up the table.
Left alone at last, the couple fell into an awkward silence.
"Jianbao."
Zhang Fengxi reached out and squeezed Xie Jianyu’s hand.
"Have you been well, these past two weeks?"
"Yes."
Despite the morning sickness that plagued him like a relentless nemesis, he was otherwise in good health.
Speaking about the morning sickness, today was the first time it did not come to torment him.
"That’s good."
Xie Jianyu threw a glance at the alpha next to him.
"And you?" Xie Jianyu asked in return.
He did not noticed it before, but Zhang Fengxi looked like he had not slept well for nights. He also lost some weight, causing him to appear thinner.
Zhang Fengxi chuckled in response.
"My mother kicked me out of Longjing Palace," he said while serving Xie Jianyu a piece of rolled egg pancake. "She literally told me that I was not allowed to come back without you by my side."
"..."
Lady Song belonged to Longjing Palace and had no blood ties with Xie Jianyu, but she was probably Xie Jianyu’s greatest supporter as he went through the pregnancy.
Xie Jianyu shoved the egg pancake from edge to edge absent-mindedly and asked, "How is everything at Fuxi Palace?"
Head Servant Zhou had not contacted him through the Two-Way Mirror, so he assumed that there was nothing to worry about.
"Oh, everything was great."
Zhang Fengxi reached into his robe and placed a Two-Way Mirror on the table.
"....."
It was the one Xie Jianyu gave Head Servant Zhou a while ago. The other one was nestling comfortably inside his qiankun pouch.
"You....."
Xie Jianyu clawed into the tablecloth, his eyes glimmering with rage.
"What did you do to my palace staff?"
Zhang Fengxi picked the piece of egg pancake from Xie Jianyu’s plate and raised it to the latter’s lips in a subtle persuasion. Xie Jianyu opened his mouth and ate it without breaking eye contact with Zhang Fengxi.
Satisfied, Zhang Fengxi leaned back in his seat and said, "Head Servant Zhou was reinstated a few days ago, and Qingyun returned from Shuiran Palace a day after."
Even Qingyun was implicated.
Xie Jianyu’s face turned ashen.
"Must you go this far? You and my brother."
Zhang Fengxi arched his eyebrow at his wife.
"Baby, you are pregnant, and you ran away like that. We were worried about you."
Xie Jianyu scoffed.
"The two of you conspired to kill my child. My husband and my own brother."
A strange glint passed through Zhang Fengxi’s eyes before he responded to Xie Jianyu’s accusation.
"You are mistaken, Jianbao. I was the one who approached your brother for the abortifacient."
"....."
Xie Jianyu sucked in a deep breath.
"So you finally admit that you do not want the baby."
His statement was akin to a death sentence, but Zhang Fengxi had no better choice to make.
"Jianbao, nothing would make me more happy to welcome a child with you. And nothing would make me more devastated when you lose your life after giving birth to our child."
Eyes wide and lips slightly parted, Xie Jianyu stared at Zhang Fengxi in bewilderment.
"How did you know?"
Zhang Fengxi was equally surprised. Xie Jianshen took great pain in hiding the content of Xie Jianyu’s Birth Reading for naught.
"Jianbao, I didn’t expect you to know about it."
"...."
Xie Jianyu did not expect the Goddess of Fate and Destiny to inform Zhang Fengxi about his upcoming death.
The Crown Prince snorted. With the weight lifted, they could finally talk in an open manner, no matter how uncomfortable the topic was.
"Fengxi, it is unavoidable," Xie Jianyu spoke.
"It is," Zhang Fengxi insisted. "You don’t have to give birth to the baby."
"I have to," Xie Jianyu furrowed his brows at Zhang Fengxi.
Had his husband gone mad? Without the baby, the entire Heavenly Realm was going to fall into chaos in the next war against the Demonic Realm!
"No need to worry about my parents. They don’t need to hold a grandchild anytime soon."
Yes, speaking about grandchildren. The heir of the Longjing Palace Master Seat. A very interesting question popped up in Xie Jianyu’s mind.
"If I die without leaving you a child, Fengxi, what exactly will you do?"

Author’s note :
Mini theater!
Xie Jianyu : Husband, what will you do if I die without giving you any children?
Zhang Fengxi : *gulp* *asks for bits of advice in an online chat forum*
Zhou Guiying : It doesn’t matter. I have many omegas on the side anyway. I bet some of them are currently pregnant.
Jiang Muchen : I will put up a temple for my Little Uncle all over the realm, and gather worshippers to pray for my Little Uncle every day.
Wu Shenxia : I will not re-marry and not sire any children. It is not that important to me.
