Mingyu felt refreshed after a night of good sleep. Worried that her master might not get used to eating food from the Human Realm, Mingyu entered the kitchen early in the morning.

She declared that she wanted to try making breakfast for Xie Jianyu, only for it to end disastrously.

Madam Chen politely kicked Mingyu out of the kitchen and asked her to sit in the partitioned dining area with her master instead.

Xie Jianyu remained in deep thought after he woke up that morning. He had yet to come to terms with the fact that his elder brother and his husband colluded to kill his child, but now he also had to digest the fact that he was going to die within nine months.

Xie Jianyu rubbed his flat stomach.

Xie Jianyu pressed a hand against his mouth to keep the vomit at bay. He then stepped out of the dining area and left the restaurant through a back door to throw up outside of the building.

"Young Master, are you alright?"

Madam Chen’s hurried steps were heard behind him.

Her face was filled with concern for her benefactor.

"Did Medic Hong not leave you any medication for your nausea? Do you need me to call him again?"

"No, Big Sister, thank you."

It was just a side effect of pregnancy, but he could not say it out loud.

There were no secondary genders in the Human Realm. Madam Chen would not understand. It was good enough if Medic Hong kept quiet about Xie Jianyu’s pregnancy. Not that anyone would believe him if he ever talked about it.

"Mom! MOM!"

Ah Yan’s panicked voice was heard coming from inside the restaurant.

Madam Chen furrowed her brows.

"What’s going on with that rascal now?"

She stepped back into the restaurant with Xie Jianyu close at her heels.

"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING???" The madam bellowed when she saw a group of thugs in her restaurant. One of them was dragging Ah Yan around by his collars.

"Oh, Madam Chen."

The man in question greeted Ah Yan’s mother with a shifty smile. He was a short man who reeked after tobacco and alcohol.

"Your son here owes us a hundred taels of gold."

"LIES!" Ah Yan cried out. "It was only thirty gold coins!"

The loan shark flicked at Ah Yan’s forehead and chuckled.

"You silly boy. Have you ever heard of loan interest? Your debt is now a hundred taels of gold."

"Debt???"

Madam Chen snapped and glared at her son, who shrank back in fear.

"M-mom, it was just some money I borrowed. Please don’t be mad!"

Ah Yan quickly shut up when he saw the look on his mother’s face.

She was so angry that she might just start beating her son black and blue in public.

"You naughty child!" She cried out at the top of her lungs. "Do you think that I have a money tree growing in the backyard? Where am I supposed to get a hundred taels of gold this instant???"

"But Mom, I did not know that there was any loan interest! I swear!!!"

The loan shark clicked with his tongue impatiently. He shook Ah Yan around as if the latter were just a ragged doll.

"Of course, there is loan interest. Why are you playing dumb? We told you all about it when you borrowed the money.

Now, Madam Chen, do you want to pay his debt or should I gouge one of his eyes out as payment?"

The loan shark took out a short blade and held the pointy end close to Ah Yan’s left eye.

"Ah Yan!"

Madam Chen wanted to rush to her son’s side, but Xie Jianyu held her back.

"Do you have the debt contract with you?" Xie Jianyu asked.

All heads turned to the beautiful man, who until then did not say anything at all.

The loan shark glared at Xie Jianyu.

"Who the hell are you? Do not mix in others’ business!"

Xie Jianyu smiled. He turned to Madam Chen and said, "Big Sister, without a debt contract, this man cannot demand a hundred taels of gold. You should only pay him what Ah Yan says he owes him, nothing more."

Veins popped up at the loan shark’s temple. He threw Ah Yan to the floor and approached Xie Jianyu with menacing steps. The blade was still tightly clutched in his hand.

"Oi, you! I said, do not interfere in others’ business!!!"

The blade cut through the air, but Xie Jianyu captured his wrist with one smooth movement.

The man tossed out a high-pitched cry when the omega twisted his arm, kneed his stomach, and slammed him to the ground. The blade slithered across the floor. It landed in front of Mingyu’s feet. The young woman just ran out of the dining area to look at the commotion.

When she saw the blade, she yelped and kicked it to the corner.

Ah Yan let out a whistle in praise.

"Woah, Young Master, you are strong!"

The loan shark’s lackeys were mostly well-built men with impressive muscles, but even they hesitated to help their boss. Some of them eyed the entrance door, looking to escape at any moment’s notice.

"Ah Yan, how much do you owe this man really?" Xie Jianyu asked.

"Really just thirty gold coins!" Ah Yan exclaimed.

Xie Jianyu took out his money pouch and passed it to Mingyu.

"Mingyu, count thirty gold coins and hand it to the nice man here."

Xie Jianyu shot a glare at the loan shark, who was still groaning from pain on the restaurant floor.

"In the future, I hope that you act in a civil manner and not cause further ruckus in this town."
