Chapter 258: Chapter 258 : Restitution (8)

Days passed by quickly when one least expected it.

Xie Jianzhi became a frequent visitor to Fuxi Palace, showing up every day to report the progress of his tasks to Xie Jianyu.

Because Xie Jianzhi was working hard, Xie Jianyu too worked hard to match his pace.

Although he did not step a foot outside of Fuxi Palace to prevent himself from getting too exhausted, Xie Jianyu eventually fell sick with a fever again.

Xie Jianshen brought his own Physician, Physician Wei, who took care of him during his pregnancy, to take a look at Xie Jianyu. This did not sit right with Lady Song, who insisted that Physician Han must be the one to accompany Xie Jianyu in his first pregnancy.

The two palace mistresses fell into another round of bickering, while the two physicians just shot each other awkward smiles and exchanged pleasantries.

"Enough," Zhang Fengxi snapped when he had heard enough tongue lashings coming from both sides.

"Why don’t you two just take a look at Jianbao and then come back to report your conclusion?" Zhang Fengxi said to both physicians with a touch of annoyance.

The two physicians swallowed hard. Nodding at each other as signs of respect, they thus left to do their job.

The two palace mistresses who were in the middle of an argument stopped arguing and sat down with angry scoffs.

Once the situation was within control, Zhang Fengxi waited in an adjacent chamber. This chamber was mainly used by Mingyu and Qingyun for resting purposes when they were attending to Xie Jianyu.

Zhang Fengxi sat at the table at the center of the chamber and waited.

A while later, the two physicians came out. They were startled by Zhang Fengxi, who stopped them in their tracks with a question.

"How is my wife?"

Both physicians bowed before the alpha, who could not appear more impatient.

"Reporting to Prince Zhang Fengxi, the Crown Prince has a weak constitution since birth. Exhaustion is the main reason for his collapse this time," Physician Han explained.

"We have come up with a prescription together." Physician Wei handed a piece of paper to Zhang Fengxi. "This tonic will help strengthen the Crown Prince’s body as the pregnancy progresses."

Weak constitution since birth.

Zhang Fengxi curled his fingers into fists.

"Is my wife going to be fine?" He heard himself asking.

The two physicians exchanged glances.

"The Crown Prince started cultivating from a young age. It contributes positively to his current physical condition. We are very confident in a successful delivery."

Zhang Fengxi gritted his teeth. He glared at the two physicians, who flinched from the sudden display of fury.

"I am asking whether my wife will draw a negative impact from the delivery."

By now, the two elder physicians started to stutter.

"S-Some relatively low risks are associated with child delivery, but we are very confident that..."

"The Crown Prince just needs to take good care of himself, and... And we are sure that the baby is going to be very healthy..."

The more they talked, the more headache plagued Zhang Fengxi. He held a hand up and both physicians stopped talking at once.

"Enough. Hand me the prescription."

"Of course, Prince."

Zhang Fengxi dismissed both physicians. He scanned the content of the prescription. It was a nutritious blend of various high-grade items that were abundantly available in Fuxi Palace’s storage room and kitchen, but it was not a miraculous elixir that ensured an omega’s survival during child delivery.

Zhang Fengxi took the prescription with him as he walked into Xie Jianyu’s bed chamber.

"Qingyun."

Qingyun was in the middle of dabbing a wet cloth on Xie Jianyu’s forehead.

"Yes, Prince."

Zhang Fengxi handed the prescription to Qingyun.

"Prepare this tonic and bring it to me. I will feed it to my wife."

"At once, Prince."

Qingyun left the chamber, and Zhang Fengxi was left alone with Xie Jianyu. The omega was fast asleep. His cheeks and lips were red from fever, and his eyelashes kept fluttering restlessly.

"Are you having a nightmare, Jianbao?"

Zhang Fengxi replaced the cloth on Xie Jianyu’s forehead with a new one.

He then took Xie Jianyu’s hand to his lips and kissed it reverently.

"I will always protect you, Baby. You know that, right?"

The tonic was finished many hours later. By then, the night was over. The first rays of the morning sun just peeked over the horizon, painting the sky with a canvas of fiery hues.

Zhang Fengxi barely slept the entire night.

Early in the morning, he found himself sitting at the adjacent chamber again, with the steaming bowl of tonic sitting right before him on the table.

"You can go," he told Qingyun. "I will take care of him."

Qingyun bowed deeply before him.

"Prince, if there is anything at all, please do not hesitate to call me."

"Hm, I will. Thank you."

Qingyun left, and Zhang Fengxi stared off into the distance.

This was the chance, he thought.

He reached into his qiankun bag and pulled out the brown clay pot that Xie Jianshen passed to him.

Inside was a finely ground powder the color of rust.

Zhang Fengxi clenched his jaw. He took a spoonful of the abortifacient as per Xie Jianshen’s instruction, and added it to the tonic.

The rust-colored powder quickly dissolved into the tonic, leaving no undissolved matter behind.

Zhang Fengxi tucked the abortifacient back into his qiankun bag, and walked out of the chamber.

Xie Jianyu was still sleeping soundly on the bed.

The nightmare that disturbed his sleep the previous day did not leave any traces behind.

He might even be having a good dream right now, because the ends of his lips were curled up slightly in a peaceful smile.

His wife was a beauty that transcended all three realms.

Zhang Fengxi lowered himself unto Xie Jianyu and gave the sleeping beauty a loving kiss on the lips.

Xie Jianyu opened his eyes and blinked at his husband.

"Fengxi, why are you awake so early?" he asked with slight confusion.
