Chapter 256: Chapter 256 : Restitution (6)
Lady Song had had a lot of defining moments in her life, but this was her most exciting one.
During the three minutes that Physician Han needed to read Xie Jianyu’s pulse, Lady Song started fantasizing about her grandchild.
Oh, would it be a boy or a girl?
Hmm, the eldest should be a boy to take the pressure off Xie Jianyu’s shoulders.
Besides, an elder prince could help to protect a little princess.
Oh, and what would the boy look like?
Lady Song stole a glance at her son-in-law. Her son Fengxi was not ugly, but Xie Jianyu was a real beauty.
Imagine a much younger version of that face on her grandson’s!
Lady Song almost broke into tears then and there.
Her grandson was going to grow up to be the most handsome man across three realms!
Physician Han took his fingers away from Xie Jianyu’s wrist and cleared his throat.
Xie Jianyu raised his eyes and looked at him.
Lady Song sucked in a deep breath and stared at the elder physician with utmost urgency.
"And...???"
Physician Han looked at Lady Song and Xie Jianyu alternately before he broke into a bright smile.
"Your Majesty the Crown Prince, Lady Song, please allow this old physician to offer his most sincere congratulations. The Crown Prince is indeed pregnant with Longjing Palace’s future heir."
"OH HEAVENS!!!"
Xie Jianyu’s heart almost jumped out of his throat. Even Physician Han had to blink a few times at Lady Song, who had jumped to her feet and began to smother Xie Jianyu with hugs.
"My Little Xie! You have done a very good job! Oh heavens, I am so proud of you..."
And then, the lady began to sob.
"And you did it although Fengxi’s techniques were so bad. Sob, sob... Little Xie, our Fengxi really does not deserve you...!"
"..."
"..."
Physician Han cleared his throat again. He initially thought that Zhang Fengxi was the one who did a good job, but never mind. His mother knew best.
Energized by the wonderful news, Lady Song was now fully in her element.
"Chang’er, Chengsu!" She cried out at the top of her lungs. Not wanting to order Xie Jianyu’s maids and servants around, Lady Song opted to bring her loyal maids with her.
"Yes, Palace Mistress!" Both maids answered their lady’s summon from behind the door.
"Ask the kitchen to prepare the list of dishes I gave them a while ago, NOW! Little Xie must not be famished!"
Physician Han excused himself after Lady Song floated out of the room with her two maids in tow.
Xie Jianyu was finally left alone to rearrange his thoughts.
It had only been two weeks.
He gently pressed a hand against his flat belly.
He did not feel any different, although he was now pregnant with Zhang Fengxi’s child.
His child.
Their child.
His vision suddenly became blurry.
A series of sobs escaped his throat as he struggled to cope with a multitude of emotions that flooded his heart in an instant.
Tears fell from his eyes like two rivulets, but he did not wipe them away.
For once, he let his emotions flow freely.
He was pregnant with their first child.
He and Zhang Fengxi were going to be parents.
He was happy.
Very happy.
At that time, Zhang Fengxi just arrived in front of the Fuxi Palace after a busy day.
Today was an especially good day because he managed to pull Commandant Jiang into his troops.
The teacher and disciple celebrated by having one good round of drinks, and then Zhang Fengxi had to go home.
He did not want to be scolded by his mother in front of Fuxi Palace’s entire ensemble of inhabitants again.
The alpha ran into Physician Han on the latter’s way out.
The elder physician bowed at Zhang Fengxi respectfully.
"Greetings to Prince Zhang Fengxi."
Zhang Fengxi smiled at the elder man.
"Fancy seeing you here, Physician Han. What did you come for?"
Physician Han lit up when he heard Zhang Fengxi’s question. Good news was meant to be shared, so he did not bother to delay his congratulations.
"Prince Zhang Fengxi, congratulations on the Crown Prince’s pregnancy. This old physician hopes for the birth of a healthy baby to carry on the Zhang Family’s honorable legacy!"
Zhang Fengxi froze on the spot.
Physician Han giggled to himself.
Fathers-to-be always needed some time to get used to the news. Best to leave him alone for now. Physician Han excused himself and went back to Qifeng Palace.
He did not at all see the forlorn expression that spread on Zhang Fengxi’s face soon after.
Zhang Fengxi slowly walked toward their shared bed chamber. He faintly registered the congratulatory remarks that other people gave him on his way.
Everyone was smiling brightly when they spoke their best wishes.
And yet, Zhang Fengxi was unable to feel happy at all.
Uneasiness grew in his heart, piling up like lead at the bottom of his stomach. His legs felt so heavy. He had to drag them with all his might to reach the bedroom.
His wife was pregnant, but Zhang Fengxi had never felt so miserable.
He pushed the door open, and there was Xie Jianyu, sitting on the edge of the bed with tears running down his cheeks. His eyes were slightly red from crying.
"Fengxi," he called out in a soft, trembling voice.
"Fengxi, I am pregnant."
Zhang Fengxi did not know what happened next.
Somehow, he must have moved his feet toward Xie Jianyu. By the time he regained consciousness, he was kneeling on the bed and cradling his wife in his arms.
Xie Jianyu sobbed against his chest.
He put his arms around Zhang Fengxi and clutched the back of his armor with shaky fingers.
"I am sorry," he sniffled. "I don’t know what is happening. I just need to cry for a little bit."
Zhang Fengxi bit back his tears. He tightened his arms around Xie Jianyu and pressed a kiss on top of Xie Jianyu’s head.
He also wanted to cry.
