Chapter 199: Chapter 199 : The Ghost Island (3)
The woman arrived just recently after spending months wandering all over the Human Realm.
The Demonic Realm had become a very unsafe place, now that the First Demon King was no longer there to rule with iron hands.
Thankfully, she managed to secure a place in Ghost Island. Thanks to her third eye, she was able to make a decent living as a fortuneteller. Not enough compared to the priests with real divination skills, but enough to give her customers what they wanted.
Ghosts, unlike human beings, did not care much about the future. They mostly cared about those in the land of the living.
What happened to the families they left behind?
Had this and that issue been settled?
Their annoying questions posed an insult to the woman’s true abilities, but at this point, she had no other option but to lay low. Among the other questionable creatures in Ghost Island, who found no place in any of the three realms.
It was late.
The number of customers who lined up in front of her humble hut already decreased.
The woman fumbled inside her qiankun bag as she waited for the next ghost to come in. Tonight, she managed to gather a lot of soul shreds.
Ignorant human beings, willingly traded part of their souls against worthless knowledge.
Then again, that was not her problem at all.
She had a goal to achieve.
The door creaked open, and two silhouettes entered through the door. Two men, one taller and bigger than the other.
The woman narrowed her eyes at the one with slender build. Why, he was oddly familiar.
The woman widened her eyes in shock when the slender one spoke.
"Long time no see, Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer."
The woman’s third eye opened wide.
"You?!!!"
She grabbed her qiankun bag and dashed toward the backside of her hut. There was a backdoor there. She could escape...
But her captors were a lot faster than her.
Winter Frost’s cold blade was pressed against her neck, preventing her from even taking another step.
Zhang Fengxi clicked with his tongue in disdain.
"Is this how you treat your customers? How rude."
The woman gritted her teeth.
"What do you want from me?" she shouted at Xie Jianyu. "What sin did I do to you?"
"Do we really want to count your sins?" Zhang Fengxi sneered at the Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer. "If you land in the Underworld, which level of hell might claim you first?"
The Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer burst into laughter.
"My name has been crossed off the Book of Life and Death," she snarled. "I will never go to Underworld, let alone hell."
Zhang Fengxi laughed as well.
"I am sure that we can make some exceptions for you. I heard that some ghost kings are greatly interested in you."
"You...!!!"
"Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer, we are looking for someone," Xie Jianyu cut their exchange short. "If you help us find the person, we will let you off this one time."
"Heh."
The woman scoffed.
"This one time, eh? All you heavenly creatures are the same. You utilize others like tools and then annihilate them as soon as they become useless to you! Speak about righteousness! Pfui!!!"
Xie Jianyu calmly stepped aside, just enough to avoid the woman’s spit.
"You have done a great deal of crimes and offended a lot of people in all three realms. I hold no personal grudge against you, but I also will not save you from retribution."
"Hahaha! Hahahahaha! Then why the hell must I help you???"
"Because I can help save your child’s soul."
The woman’s jaw dropped open. She did not expect Xie Jianyu to know about her child. Not many people knew. It had been such a long time ago. Too long. Those who knew passed away eons ago.
How did this young dragon prince even know about the darkest section of her past?
"..."
Seeing that the Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer did not react, Xie Jianyu took out a small lantern from his qiankun bag. It was shaped like a box, with its thin walls made from glass. A lot of spells were carved into the walls.
The Three-Eyed Realm Wanderer sucked in a deep breath.
She recognized the lantern. She had tried to steal it once from the Golden Dragon Palace, but she failed miserably.
Now, this lantern was right before her eyes.
"Your child was ripped out of your stomach before he was born. His soul became deformed, and he was forever trapped in the Human Realm, unable to reincarnate. You have been trying to find ways to recover his soul."
Xie Jianyu held the small lantern up.
"I am sure that you know what this lantern is for. After all, you tried to steal it."
The woman licked her lips.
"The Soul Gathering Lantern. It can be used to house soul fragments and keep them safe."
"A lot more useful than that bag of yours, isn’t it?" Zhang Fengxi asked.
The woman tightened her grip around her qiankun bag.
She wanted to talk back, but she knew that she was unable to deliver a winning argument.
The soul fragments of her son became more and more unstable with the passing time. At this rate, he was going to disappear forever. This was why she kept feeding it with pieces of soul from other ghosts, hoping that they could act like glue to keep the soul fragments together.
"I offer to take your child’s soul fragments into the lantern and hang it at the Tree Of Life in Heaven. When his soul fully recovers, he will exit the lantern and enter the reincarnation cycle."
The offer was very good. Too good to be true.
The woman gritted her teeth.
"What if I refuse?" she asked.
"If you refuse, we will leave you alone. But know that we are not the only ones who know where you are. Maybe tomorrow, or next week, or next month, one of your enemies will come for sure. And then, although you cannot die, that child will disappear forever."
