Xie Jianyu sighed inwardly.

The male alpha was stunned to hear Xie Jianyu’s answer. He chuckled nervously.

"That... I am unfortunately not talented enough to join the military."

"Defending the Heavenly Empire is a noble cause. You can start from the bottommost rank, no worries."

The alpha let out a burst of nervous laughter.

"But... Your Majesty, that was not what I came here for."

"I thought that you were at my utter and complete disposal?"

"And that you came to serve me?"

The alphas were asked to join the military.

"Enough," the Crown Prince said after the tenth person left with his head bowed down in dejection.

Xie Jianyu liked to practice his sword skills in the inner courtyard. There was a huge plum blossom tree there, its age the same as his mother’s, had she remained in the world of the living.

"Don’t tell me that you forgot," Zhang Fengxi raised an eyebrow at the omega opposite him.

Zhang Fengxi took Xie Jianyu’s hand and pressed a kiss against the back of his hand.

"I renounced the throne in front of the entire realm. You promised to let me pursue you in return."

Xie Jianyu neither retracted his hand nor responded with an encouraging gesture. He had a complicated look on his face. Some part annoyed, some part concerned.

"Zhang Fengxi, what are you planning to do...?" he slowly asked.

"Hmmm?"

His innocent hum did not sit right with the Crown Prince.

Quick as lightning, Winter Frost left its scabbard. Its blade swung toward Zhang Fengxi’s neck, stopping only before it drew blood.
