Xie Jianyu avoided the vicious blades by performing a few backward acrobatic jumps in the air.

"Hngh!"

Fang Jiuyan gave his flexible sword a yank and it quickly changed its direction, heading straight toward Xie Jianyu’s neck.

Winter Frost intercepted the attack smoothly. Xie Jianyu’s movement was unpredictable. Sometimes he swayed to the left, sometimes to the right. Sometimes he took the initiative to push Fang Jiuyan to the edge, sometimes he stepped backward for no reason at all.

Most of the time, it looked like he was performing a dance.

Fang Jiuyan glared at his opponent.

"Will you stop playing around!!!" he snapped while swinging his sword at Xie Jianyu again.

Xie Jianyu did not answer. He dragged one of his legs over the sandy ground and then stabbed Winter Frost into the sandy surface.

"What the?"

Fang Jiuyan ripped his gaze from Xie Jianyu and looked down.

Fang Jiuyan was stunned to see a drawing -- no, a huge array extending between them. He didn’t even know when the drawing came to be.

"What are you..."

Xie Jianyu smirked. He performed a hand spell in the air and then murmured softly, "Azure Dragon’s Annihilation, Tenth Form."

Fang Jiuyan cackled like a madman.

"Are you insane, Crown Prince? Where do you think you are? There is no water here...!"

But then, the ground beneath their feet started to rumble in a violent manner.

"Earthquake!" Fang Jiuyan exclaimed dumbly.

But it was not an earthquake. A gigantic ice dragon burst through the surface and shot toward the sky with a deafening roar.

Fang Jiuyan was so shocked that he fell backward and crawled away as fast as he could.

"W... What... How... Why..."

The ice dragon encircled Xie Jianyu a few times. The Crown Prince extended his hand and grabbed the ice dragon by its horn. He then swung himself at the dragon’s back, settling just behind the dragon’s head.

"Complaining again? This is the battleground you chose yourself," Xie Jianyu sneered at the frightened sellsword. "Don’t you know that water is everywhere? It is not just available when you can see it physically.

In fact, the Burning Wasteland Desert stood right above the biggest underground water reservoir on the continent.

Xie Jianyu grabbed the ice dragon’s horns with both hands.

"Ice blizzard," he whispered to the dragon he was riding. The ice dragon roared once into the sky, before it suddenly sucked in a huge amount of air from its surrounding area. Afraid that he was about to be sucked into the ice dragon’s stomach, Fang Jiuyan hurriedly stabbed his sword into the sandy ground. He barely made it, because his lower body already left the ground and was floating in the air.

Fang Jiuyan was not a religious person, but at this point, he was willing to convert to any religion just so a god or deity descended upon the battleground and saved his life.

When the air suction stopped, Fang Jiuyan’s body dropped to the ground. He had not even exhaled out of relief when he saw the terrifying scene behind him.

Inside the ice dragon’s mouth, a sparkling big ball of energy formed.

It grew larger and larger.

Xie Jianyu raised Winter Frost above his head. Tiny lightning bolts surrounded the shiny blade, until they coalesced into a huge beam of light and shot toward the sky.

The ray of light was swallowed by the sky. For a split second, nothing happened. And then, a grumbling sound was heard. It sounded a lot like a beast that had just been awakened from a deep slumber. Dark clouds appeared out of nowhere, accompanied by several rumbling noises.

Lightning appeared in the sky, illuminating the true face of an approaching thunderstorm.

Fang Jiuyan turned pale. He was unable to move his arms and legs. He just sat there on the ground, waiting for death to come and claim him.

"Fang Jiuyan."

Fang Jiuyan snapped his head in the dragon’s direction.

Xie Jianyu’s voice was calm and unhurried. The Crown Prince looked down at him from above the gigantic ice dragon’s head.

"Are you scared now?"

Fang Jiuyan opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He was severely distracted by the massive ball of energy that was forming in the ice dragon’s mouth.

When it could not grow anymore, it shot at Fang Jiuyan with a light speed. At the same time, lightning bolts rained down from the sky and struck in Fang Jiuyan’s direction as well.

Fang Jiuyan’s horrified cry was swallowed by the hissing and sizzling noise that accompanied the attacks.

By the time the sky cleared up and the ice dragon disappeared, Xie Jianyu stood in front of Fang Jiuyan, who passed out before either the big ball of energy or the lightning bolts hit him.

Head Eunuch Wang had been hiding someplace far away when the battle took place. Once it was safe enough to approach the Crown Prince, he quickly emerged from his hiding place to congratulate Xie Jianyu.

"Crown Prince, may you live for thousands of years! This lowly eunuch congratulates Your Majesty for the splendid victory!"

Head Eunuch Wang did not say it out loud, but he also pitied whoever had to face Xie Jianyu tomorrow. The person was going to share Fang Jiuyan’s fate, one way or another.

"Let’s check out the other semifinal battle," Xie Jianyu said. The other pair of semifinalists was Zhang Fengxi and Wu Shenxia.

Xie Jianyu wondered who among these two would prevail.

Zhang Fengxi and Wu Shenxia did not pick any fancy battleground for the semifinal round. They chose to fight on a vast expanse of grassy plains with no trees at all.

By the time Xie Jianyu arrived, the battle between the spearman and the swordswoman was almost finished.

Having fought a severe and bloody battle, both Zhang Fengxi and Wu Shenxia were deprived of energy. Both of them stood with their legs apart while supporting themselves on their weapons.

"Good fight," Wu Shenxia said with a lot of effort.

"You too," Zhang Fengxi struggled to answer.

And then, Wu Shenxia toppled backward and fell to the ground.
