Chapter 175 : The Nature Of His Feelings

Chapter 175: Chapter 175 : The Nature Of His Feelings

"And are you sure that you never slept with the Crown Prince before?" Zhang Zhiyuan asked, his face a mask of terror.

"No, Father, a thousand times no," Zhang Fengxi answered wearily.

"And he was never pregnant with your baby?" Lady Song asked in a serious tone.

"No, Mother..."

Zhang Fengxi rubbed at his aching temples. If he already said that he never slept with Xie Jianyu, then how could Xie Jianyu become pregnant with his child? These repetitive questions were extremely annoying, especially when one was trying to recover from a terrible hangover.

Zhang Zhiyuan and his wife exchanged worried glances.

"So it was nothing but a drunk man’s nonsense, correct?" he asked again, just to be sure.

Zhang Fengxi turned his head to look at his father with bleary eyes.

"Yes, Father. I was drunk. I didn’t know what I was saying."

Except that he did. He could not believe that he blurted it all out after a night of heavy drinking...

And in front of so many people too.

Dear gods.

Zhang Fengxi wished that he could burrow into the deepest hole in the ground and never again re-emerge.

It later became apparent that heaven was not done with his punishment. Wu Shenxia came to visit in the afternoon that day to take a look at Zhang Fengxi’s condition.

"Hey, Zhang Fengxi. How are you doing?"

Wu Shenxia was as friendly as always. Zhang Fengxi gave her an awkward smile.

"I am alright now. The wine got to my head."

"Hmm. Yeah, you almost crushed the Crown Prince with your weight."

Wu Shenxia’s words made Zhang Fengxi’s head snap up in alarm.

"Really? How is he now? Is he injured???"

Wu Shenxia flashed him an unreadable smile.

"Well, he sprained his ankle, but I heard that he is doing a lot better now."

Zhang Fengxi groaned in his head. Good job, Zhang Fengxi, he chastised himself. You not only embarrassed Xie Jianyu to death with your drunken slur, but you also injured him before an important martial arts competition took place.

Maybe he should kowtow in front of Xie Jianyu to ask for his forgiveness the next time they met. He would not be surprised if Xie Jianyu hated him for real this time.

"Zhang Fengxi, I am not someone who likes to beat around the bush," Wu Shenxia said. "I am here to ask you about your relationship with the Crown Prince."

"There is no relationship," Zhang Fengxi said in reply. Unfortunately, he thought bitterly. If there had been any sort of relationship, he might be able to explain himself better.

Wu Shenxia smiled.

"I do not refer to any official ties. Do you have romantic feelings for him?"

Zhang Fengxi swallowed hard. If someone asked him the same question two years ago, he would laugh out loud and deny it. Now, he was not so sure anymore.

He harbored some feelings for Xie Jianyu, yes. He just wasn’t sure whether they were romantically inclined or not.

All he knew was that he could not stand it when Xie Jianyu did not pay him any attention. He also hated it when Xie Jianyu was close to other alphas.

"Silence usually means yes," Wu Shenxia slowly said. "Is that true in your case?"

After all, Wu Shenxia had been open to Zhang Fengxi about her plan to pursue Xie Jianyu. As a good friend, Zhang Fengxi felt obliged to show her the same level of courtesy.

"I do have feelings for him," Zhang Fengxi answered truthfully. "But, I don’t know what those feelings entail."

Wu Shenxia sucked in a deep breath before she continued asking, "Since when?"

Since when?

It all began when he found out the truth about his past life.

Zhang Fengxi closed his eyes momentarily before he answered, "Since three years ago."

"Three years. And what are you going to do about your feelings toward him?"

"..."

Good question.

"I don’t know," Zhang Fengxi answered helplessly.

Wu Shenxia pursed her lips and nodded a few times.

"When it comes to love affairs, I do not believe in the ’first come first serve’ policy. I trust that you understand that."

"I understand."

Wu Shenxia’s lips curled up in an amused smile.

"I am not going to give up easily. If you really want the Crown Prince, then try your best to kick me aside and claim him as your wife."

Wu Shenxia rose to her feet. She cut an impressive posture when she loomed over Zhang Fengxi, who was leaning against his bedpost.

"You correctly predicted that the fight over the Crown Prince would turn into a martial art competition. Although the prize has been changed, I agree that the strongest one should prevail -- be it to rule the Heavenly Realm or to stand by the Crown Prince’s side as his husband."

Wu Shenxia narrowed his eyes at Zhang Fengxi.

"As the heir to Longjing Palace, you would surely participate. Let’s, once and for all, determine who between us deserves to take the Crown Prince’s hand in marriage."

Zhang Fengxi nodded.

"Agreed."

Wu Shenxia extended her hand and Zhang Fengxi gave it a crafty shook.

"May the best one win," Wu Shenxia said.

"The loser will not hold a grudge and accept the loss like a gentleman," Zhang Fengxi said.

"Naturally."

After Wu Shenxia left, Zhang Fengxi revisited everything that happened between him and Xie Jianyu ever since he returned to the past. When he first awoke in his eighteen-year-old body, all he wanted to do was stay far away from Xie Jianyu.

As time passed, a lot of things happened with and between them. Before he knew it, Xie Jianyu’s presence in his life gained a substantial weight. Xie Jianyu was the light that illuminated his path. Without him, Zhang Fengxi would forever wallow in darkness.

He had been following this light for some time now, chasing it fervently although it tried its best to escape at times. Now, it was time to find out where this light was going to lead him.

It was time to understand his own feelings for Xie Jianyu.
