Chapter 156: Chapter 156 : Consulting Zhou Guiying (4)
"And does the Heavenly Court recognize this convenient lie detector?" Zhang Fengxi asked.
He never heard about a mermaid pearl giving birth to anything, let alone a magical creature.
"Of course, Brother Fengxi. Mine has been my greatest support every time an omega drags me to court and besmirch my good name."
"...."
Zhang Fengxi was not aware that Zhou Guiying had a good name, let alone cared for having one.
Zhou Guiying extended the pearl toward Zhang Fengxi, who carefully took it and wrapped it in his hands.
"All you need to do, my good brother, is carry this pearl with you the entire time. It will hatch within a day. And then, I suggest you do not waste any more time and break it off with that omega properly."
Zhang Fengxi thanked the second prince of Qingyuan Palace and left for his own.
Once he arrived at Longjing Palace, he drafted an official letter to break off his engagement with Liu Wenyuan for good.
He then brought the letter to his father, who read the letter many times from top to bottom before he gave his son a grim look.
"Have you found a way to prove that the child is not yours?"
Zhang Fengxi nodded. He took out the pearl he received from Zhou Guiying and showed it to his father.
"This pearl is made from an omega mermaid’s tears. Zhou Guiying gave it to me after I did him a favor."
Zhang Zhiyuan snapped after air when he saw the lustrous object in Zhang Fengxi’s hand.
"This... Zhou Guiying actually gave you the ’Blessing Of The Ocean’. What a generous gift instead."
Zhang Fengxi heaved a sigh of relief inwardly.
If his father said that it was a precious gift, then it must be. A gift as precious as Zhou Yunmeng herself.
"It is supposed to hatch within a day. Father, can you still put my name in the proposal?" Zhang Fengxi asked full of hope.
Zhang Zhiyuan stared at him.
"Fengxi, getting the ’Blessing Of The Ocean’ is the first step to detaching yourself from Liu Wenyuan, but you are still far from your goal. You should give up on the Crown Prince in this life."
"Father, please. I am not asking out of egoistical reasons. I cherish him, and I want to spend the rest of my life making him happy."
Zhang Zhiyuan sighed.
"My son, marrying omegas is not necessarily a way to make them happy," he quipped.
Zhang Fengxi furrowed his brows in confusion. Before he asked further, his father already waved his hand at him dismissively.
"I will put both yours and Fenghan’s name inside the proposal. The Crown Prince himself may decide."
"Thank you, Father."
Zhang Zhiyuan pursed his lips.
"Go now, I have some work to do."
After his son left, he took a piece of paper from the top drawer and flattened it on his desk. He then dipped his brush into the ink pad and added one last name to the proposal.
The proposal from Longjing Palace was the last one to arrive on the Heavenly Emperor’s desk.
The ruler of the Heavenly Realm did not bother reading the proposals one by one. He directly summoned Xie Jianyu and Xie Jianshen into the Golden Dragon Palace for a discussion instead.
Once both sons arrived at his study, the Heavenly Emperor spread the eight envelopes in front of his youngest son. Each of them bore a sigil and a wax seal of the respective palaces. The seals were still intact.
"Jianyu, our Xie family is not fated to keep the Dragon Throne. Although you can no longer sit on the throne yourself, you can give birth to the next heir to the throne.
Written inside these envelopes are the names of all the alphas that each palace recommended to be your husband. You can pick whomever you like. This is not too bad, is it?"
Xie Jianyu folded his hands on top of his lap, trying his best to put a distance between himself and the envelopes.
"I don’t want to," he said decisively. "I do not have to give birth to the next heir. The reason why I held on until today was to keep the Dragon Throne in our family. If we cannot, then these alphas should fight it out among themselves."
"I agree with Little Yu," Xie Jianshen said. "He already lost his status as an alpha. He does not have to serve as a breeding vessel for anyone. Let the strongest alpha be the next heir of the throne, whoever it is."
The Heavenly Emperor’s gaze drifted between his sons.
"Is this your decision, Jianyu?" he asked again. "Are you not going to regret it?"
Xie Jianyu shook his head.
"I never had half a mind to live as an omega. Even if I have to from now on, I shall decide my own destiny. I do not want to be tied down by marriage and the responsibility to bear alpha sons."
"Hm... Do you think that you can win?" the Emperor asked.
Both of his sons furrowed their brows at their father.
"Win what?"
"If we hold a martial art competition to determine the next heir to the throne, we go by strength and not gender.
After all, the only reason why only alpha sons are allowed to rule is because the First Heavenly Emperor himself was a male alpha."
"This is not a bad idea," Xie Jianshen contemplated. "The succession rule has been disadvantageous toward not only omegas in general but also female alphas."
Wu Shenxia, for example. If she were born a male, she would be a strong contender for the Juhua Palace Master position.
"Then, let’s change the succession rule," Xie Jianyu said. "Let’s go back to the ways of the past. The strongest one across the Heavenly Realm shall rule."
The Heavenly Emperor curled up the corners of his lips in amusement.
"This is going to be a fun event," he said.
