Chapter 116: Chapter 116 : The Crisis In Human Realm (1)

Every morning, Xie Jianyu went to the Golden Dragon Palace to attend the court meeting. After Liu Wenyuan had been safely recovered from the clutches of the First Demon King, there had been no particularly big issue to address.

Today the Water God and the Wind God came forward with a petition.

"Your Majesty, the Heavenly Emperor," both gods bowed before the Emperor. "We have come to relay the climbing distress of the human beings in the Human Realm."

The Heavenly Emperor furrowed his brows.

"Did the demons do something again?"

The Water God bowed and answered.

"Not directly, Your Majesty. The destruction of the Crescent Mayhem Sect and the expulsion of the demons back to the Demonic Realm have restored the balance between good and evil in the Human Realm. Unfortunately, it does nothing to re-establish the ruined livelihood of the affected human beings."

The Heavenly Emperor hummed as he stroked his long beard.

"Wealth and poverty are determined by wheels of fate. This is not something that we, gods, should interfere with."

This time, it was the Wind God’s turn to speak up.

"Not if it concerns only a bunch of human beings, Your Majesty. Unfortunately, this issue affects too many human beings. While mortal wealth is insignificant for us, gods, it is significant enough for human beings to stray from the right path."

"Are you suggesting that we shower them with gold?" the Emperor raised an eyebrow at both gods.

"No, Your Majesty. What we need is some acts of kindness by the Heavenly Realm. If done correctly, it can tip the scale to our benefit."

"Hmmm."

The Emperor let his eyes wander among his subjects.

He could see that many gods were interested in this proposition. All of them worked toward the greater good, but everyone strived to have more worshippers day after day.

There was a good reason why the Water God and the Wind God came up with this idea. Human beings usually prayed to them for smooth sea travel, more rain for the harvest, and so on.

If the Emperor allowed all the gods to extend their merciful hands toward the Human Realm, they would soon enter into a fierce competition. The human beings were going to be swimming in wealth, but they would soon fall victim to moral degradation.

On the other side, this was a good opportunity to test Xie Jianyu’s aptitude as the heir to the Dragon Throne.

"Crown Prince," he called out to his son. "What do you think we should do?"

Xie Jianyu stepped forward. He cupped his hands before the Emperor and answered, "Father, I am unable to give my answer without witnessing the hardship in the Human Realm with my own eyes. Please give me three days to make my assessment."

The Emperor nodded in assent.

"Very well. Go and take a look at the Human Realm. Report back to me within the allocated time."

"Yes, Father."

As soon as Xie Jianyu left the Golden Dragon Palace, he returned to his Fuxi Palace. He only had three days’ time, so every second was precious. He must not waste his father’s attempt to promote his name in front of the gods, deities, and other heavenly officials.

Before he even finished climbing off the cloud carriage, he came up with an instruction for his head servant. The man just happened to come out of the Fuxi Palace to greet him.

"I will be gone for three days. Contact me through this Two-Way Mirror if anything happens," he told the male beta.

"Of course, Your Majesty," the Head Servant accepted the Two-Way Mirror gladly. "Prince Zhang Fengxi from the Longjing Palace is here to meet you."

Xie Jianyu pressed his lips into a thin line.

"What does he need?"

"Pardon, Your Majesty. The Prince has not left any message with this subject. He prefers to meet Your Majesty directly."

Xie Jianyu marched toward the guest reception room. He was about to push the door open when he recalled the alpha’s betrothed omega.

Taking Liu Wenyuan into consideration, it was not a good idea for him and Zhang Fengxi to meet in a private setting.

"I need to go now," Xie Jianyu told his head servant. "Do relay my apology to Prince Zhang Fengxi."

The Crown Prince thus left without meeting Zhang Fengxi.

Xie Jianyu rode on his heavenly steed and descended to the Human Realm. He arrived in a small forest just outside of Rainbell Town.

Rainbell Town was used as the Crescent Mayhem Sect’s center of operation in its golden days. The damage done in this town was the worst of all.

Xie Jianyu had never stepped foot into Rainbell Town previously, but what he saw was shocking enough. It was supposedly one of the bigger towns in the Human Realm, but at this point, it was no different from a ghost town.

Many houses were torn off the ground. The depressed town inhabitants sat in front of their broken houses, murmuring about demons and their fallen family members and relatives. Some of them were unable to stay put. They kept running toward walking pedestrians to beg for something.

An elderly woman decided to try her luck and approached Xie Jianyu.

"Oohh... Young Master, please help... I have not eaten anything decent for a week..."

The old woman did not even have enough tears to shed. She raised her wrinkly hands above her head and kowtowed in front of Xie Jianyu many times.

"I beg you... I beg you, please help this old woman... I beg you..."

Xie Jianyu pulled the old woman to her feet and said, "Grandmother, I have some money here. Let me give you some."

The elderly woman extended her trembling hands at the gold pouch in Xie Jianyu’s hands. She had not even touched its silk rope before the entire pouch was snatched off Xie Jianyu’s hand.

"Halt!!!" Xie Jianyu shouted angrily, but the thief paid him no heed.

The bare-footed boy in disheveled clothing dashed away like a bolt of lightning and quickly disappeared into the crowd.
