Chapter 107: Chapter 107 : Rescuing Liu Wenyuan (4)
The elder man’s eyes were full of hope.
"Young man, but how?"
"Just come with me."
Guo Jun’s station was rather dilapidated if compared to the other Demon Lords’. He also did not have many subordinates to do stuff for him.
When Zhang Fengxi and the other weak and useless human beings arrived, Guo Jun and his meager group of subordinates were already waiting. The least popular Demon Lord could not help but heave a sigh of utter desolation at the pitiful sight before him.
"The young ones, go do some manual labor at the workshop," Guo Jun’s attendant said. "The old ones, go to the furnace."
The furnace was where human souls were decimated and used as fuel to power the Demonic Realm.
The elder man was the only old one in the group. He stuck to Zhang Fengxi stubbornly, refusing to leave him at all costs.
"Demon Lord Guo Jun, I have a proposal to make," Zhang Fengxi talked to Guo Jun directly.
Guo Jun instantly became angry.
"You little scoundrel," he said, gritting his teeth in anger. "How dare you address me so casually? I am going to pull out your skin, rip out your flesh, and feed you to my dogs."
Zhang Fengxi remained calm despite the threats.
"The Fourth Demon King recently suffered a humiliating defeat against the Heavenly Realm troops. I have a way to promote him to the First Demon King. Maybe even more."
Zhang Fengxi’s eyes gleamed with genuine wickedness.
"Are you referring to the Dark Moon Throne?"
The Heavenly Realm had the Dragon Throne, and the Demonic Realm had the Dark Moon Throne.
The First Demon King sat on the Dark Moon Throne since forever. While all six other Demon Kings desired to overthrow him, the Fourth Demon King was the one with the biggest ambition to do so.
Zhang Fengxi gave a subtle nod.
"The throne of all thrones."
Guo Jun swallowed hard.
"How?"
"I can’t tell you," Zhang Fengxi shrugged. "I need to tell the Fourth Demon King directly."
Guo Jun’s face darkened when Zhang Fengxi refused to answer his question.
"What if I refuse to take you to the Fourth Demon King?"
"In that case, all you will have is some meal for your dogs," Zhang Fengxi shrugged. "What is there to lose when you take me to the Fourth Demon King?"
Guo Jun thought so hard that even the veins in his temples started to throb painfully. Eventually, he relented.
"Whatever. You will regret it if you lie to me. The Fourth Demon King is not going to let you die so easily. He will make you regret being born to the world."
Zhang Fengxi chuckled.
"As I said, you have nothing to lose."
"Fine. Guards, grab that old useless man and throw him into the furnace," Guo Jun said off-handedly.
"Wait."
Zhang Fengxi shielded the old man with his body.
"In return, I want you to do this old man a favor?"
Guo Jun rolled with his eyes. "What favor?"
Zhang Fengxi nodded at the elder man. He quickly began to talk.
"My son passed away a week ago. Please help to revive him, Demon Lord Guo Jun!"
The elder man then dropped to his knees and banged his head against the rocky surface repeatedly.
Guo Jun groaned.
"Old man, not even the First Demon King can revive the deceased ones. Go back to the Human Realm if you have nothing else to ask."
The elder man started sobbing.
"But... my son..."
Zhang Fengxi tapped at his shoulder.
"Old man, who told you that you should go to the Demonic Realm to revive your son?"
"It was... It was my neighbor, Ah Jiu..."
"Did your son cultivate demonic art? How did he die?"
"He... Ah Jiu said that two demons came to take him."
"Ah. And the demons belonged to the Fourth Demon King," Zhang Fengxi rubbed at his chin in deliberation.
"I... I suppose so."
For a mortal, Ah Jiu sure knew a lot.
Unless Zhang Fengxi was mistaken, both Ah Jiu and the old man’s son must have dabbed in dark magic. Considering that Ah Jiu did not draw any consequences from their unholy practices, he most likely was the more experienced one. Deliberate or accidental, he ended up sacrificing the old man’s son.
And then, he sent the man’s father to the Demonic Realm to die, probably to cover his tracks.
How vicious.
"Free the soul of the old man’s son," Zhang Fengxi told Guo Jun. "Whether or not he will be revived depends on the Goddess of Mercy. At the very least, he can re-enter the reincarnation cycle."
Guo Jun scoffed.
"Fine," he said. "The Fourth Demon King is not going to miss one inconsequential soul."
The elder man bowed to Zhang Fengxi repeatedly before he followed a demon to pick up his son’s soul.
That was all Zhang Fengxi could do, for now he had to prepare himself mentally before meeting the Fourth Demon King.
Guo Jun summoned a carriage made of specifically human bones. Demonic spells were carved on the carriage body in neat handwriting. The carriage was manned by a skeletal demon, who made eerie clacking sounds every time it moved.
When Zhang Fengxi stepped into the carriage, he could hear resentful murmurs in his ears.
"Is it too loud for you?" Guo Jun snickered at him. "We in Demonic Realm call it our personalized music."
It was then that Zhang Fengxi realized what the demonic spells were for. They prevented the souls from leaving. The demons were using the sorrowful cries of the departed human beings as their source of entertainment.
Guo Jun cocked his head to the side and smiled at Zhang Fengxi.
"Who knows? Maybe I will hear your pained cries a week from now, mixed with other skeletons in the Fourth Demon King’s boneyard."
Zhang Fengxi said nothing in response and looked away from Guo Jun. If his gaze lingered any second longer on the Demon Lord, he might just beat him up to a pulp.
