Chapter 94: Chapter 74 Xu Shu: No Need for More Words, Call Me the Glory of Humanity (Please Follow, Foster Fathers!)
"Like this, like that..."
"So that’s the situation, let’s get ready to fight for our lives."
Xu Shu spoke clearly, his words rapid like a machine gun. It took just over half a minute for him to explain the predicaments they were about to face.
Gu Pan listened with a shocked expression.
What the hell?
Evil spirits that keep haunting you if they kill you?
Quicksand pits that turn you into dried bones if you fall into them?
A bizarre fusion twisted by Abyss Demons and the Unclean?
And also, the terrifying Primordial Spirit has appeared again? And it has become even more difficult to deal with?
"No way? Are you joking?"
Gu Pan found it quite hard to believe; just recalling that statue filled her with dread.
It was just a small refuge in the Wasteland, yet it seemed to be full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers.
It felt like it wasn’t much different from around the Black Widow Prison, right?
Then she thought about the "Cult Sacrifice" that had taken place last night and couldn’t help but speculate,
"Could it be that the Sinful Sect’s sacrificial ritual released a high-level Demon aura, attracting all the monsters within dozens of miles to this place?"
"Don’t think too much, what we need next is to fight."
Xu Shu hadn’t told Gu Pan exactly what role she needed to play in the battle; perhaps, he hadn’t figured it out yet.
He hadn’t shared his own guess that the Primordial Spirit and Yan Fu, who had transformed into the Unclean, were probably following him.
That is, while they were facing a multitude of monsters, they likely belonged to two distinct groups.
One group was attracted by the demonic sacrifice, seeing the refuge as a big cafeteria, coming to stock up on food—the group including the Cult’s sculptures and the Yang God.
The other group was the Demons and the Primordial Spirit who were coming to seek revenge on Xu Shu himself.
As for creating the quicksand hazards, it was probably the Yang God group, as Xu Shu had found no clues that it was specifically targeting him.
Relatively speaking, the latter group was much stronger than the former, not on the same level.
But what was the use of saying these things? It would only hurt feelings and stir up unrest.
Xu Shu couldn’t just abandon Gu Pan; the hidden dangers of the Promotion Drive hadn’t been resolved, and abandoning her would make his life as an unregistered individual unbearable.
"Hurry up and get dressed, we’re setting out soon. We have less than ten minutes to prepare."
Xu Shu pulled the steel reinforcement he needed from under the bed and tore up her sheet to use as rope, bundling it on his back like a fan.
Two minutes later, Xu Shu and Gu Pan, now fully equipped, headed towards the refuge’s main hall together.
Gu Pan followed half a step behind Xu Shu, sipping precious breakfast milk while observing his resolute eyes and profile.
Finally, she couldn’t help but ask, "Hey, why do I feel like you already have a clear plan? Do you have a battle plan?"
"I do," Xu Shu replied succinctly.
"..."
Gu Pan was taken aback and still puzzled, "Then why not tell me? I could help with something."
"Right, let me ask you a question."
Suddenly, Xu Shu stopped; Gu Pan, unable to dodge in time, bumped into his back, spilling half of her milk, and immediately complained unhappily, "Damn it, why did you startle me like that? You made me spill my milk."
Milk was indeed scarce in the Wasteland and could only be found in this refuge.
Xu Shu looked at her chest, which was flatter than his pectorals, and snorted coldly, asking,
"Aside from sniping, how is your physical combat ability?"
He seemed to remember that when he first met her, she had seemed a very dangerous person, but it was only later, when he himself became a Transcendent, that the distinction was made.
Gu Pan hesitated and then said, "It’s pretty good, my cold weapon combat test results were also top-notch, hehe, actually, all my tests in the six disciplines at the Supervision Bureau were top-notch."
"Oh, a master at six disciplines, huh? Good, that’s reassuring."
Xu Shu didn’t ask which six disciplines she was referring to and nodded, then continued walking.
"Ah?" Gu Pan’s expression froze.
Reassuring? What exactly are you feeling reassured about? What battle plan have you prepared? Can’t you make yourself clear?
Damn it, once I become a Transcendent, I’ll definitely draw my sword and kill all you damn riddlers!
Gu Pan felt a sudden surge of frustration in her chest.
And she was also somewhat puzzled.
But there was nothing she could do; he was in control now.
If she didn’t want to die, she had to abide by Xu Shu’s arrangements.
A moment later.
Xu Shu returned to the familiar front hall of the refuge.
There were residents lining up for breakfast, whom he had seen three times before.
The women looked radiant, the men had dark circles under their eyes.
Seeing Xu Shu approaching, those with sharp eyes immediately bowed their heads humbly to greet this "Lord Transcendent."
Xu Shu smiled and said nothing. He looked around and, with keen eyes, spotted a familiar face among the staff distributing food.
It was a well-groomed middle-aged woman with a harsh look, who was idling boringly picking at her fingernails.
Familiar.
Xu Shu remembered, on the day he came to the refuge, she had been the one playing the good cop with Yang Chong.
No wonder he found her detestable appearance strangely familiar last round.
For some reason, Yang Chong and his crew didn’t call her into their cult ceremony.
"Old Chen, right?" Xu Shu walked over and recalled.
"Ah?" The woman got startled and immediately got angry.
What Old Chen? Is that how you address a lady? Have you no manners?
