Chapter 249: Chapter 44: Xu Shu Gradually Understands the True Use of the Altar (Second Update, Please Subscribe)_2

[At this moment, a grand blue light shone brightly, and the sacrifice began, devouring all who failed to escape from the altar.]

[You died, your campaign has ended, settling...]

[Evaluation: When out in the world, one must consider power and background. Of what use is your strength? Luckily, you’re not without support; your backer, Lie Zhenzi, killed you all, so you’ll no longer need to fight. Quickly say, "Thank you, Lie Zhenzi."]

[You acquired an item: A Reliable Mountain (Ordinary)]

[A Reliable Mountain (Ordinary) when used, can grow a small mountain over two meters high. Standing on this mountain, you’ll become exceptionally brave, and your first attack will be slightly strengthened, but you will also receive similar damage. Hurt the enemy a thousand, harm oneself eight hundred.]

[Number of starts for today: 2/3]

...

"Ugh~ Pah~ A goddamn two-meter-high mountain, what’s the use of this damn thing~"

Following the end of the campaign, Xu Shu’s eyes bulged with retching a few times.

He had died so many times, but this was the first time he’d been "sacrificed" to death, an unprecedented feeling.

"Darn it, they were actually making a sacrifice to Lie Zhenzi? Were they creating a ’Mark’?"

"I can’t worry about that now, time to slip away."

Xu Shu headed straight for the window.

Although it was the 12th floor, with his physical capabilities, tumbling down layer by layer, clinging to the window sills to reach the ground, would pose no challenge at all.

The enemies had five First Rank and one Second Rank. Although the Second Rank Transcendent was of a non-combat profession, with such strength, Xu Shu absolutely couldn’t confront them head-on.

He never won a fight against five from the start.

Of course, it was best to run away while no one was around, the most prudent strategy.

If he didn’t leave now, he’d be trapped here again.

But just as he ran to the window, ready to climb out, Xu Shu suddenly stopped.

The future scene he just witnessed flashed through his mind, seeing everyone being sacrificed together at the end, and the old priest’s immense effort constructing the ’blue Mark Altar’, looking as if he didn’t need to bother, that he himself was about to kick the bucket...

Then, he looked at his own golden ’Yang God’ altar that he could easily move in and out of.

"Hmm..."

Escaping was the ordinary person’s way to handle things.

But Xu Shu realized he now had another choice.

His eyes swiftly rolled, glancing at the Tai Chu Scroll’s [2/3], and in a split second, he concocted a rather bold idea; malicious intention instantly sprung up in his heart!

...

Two minutes later.

"Sir, your breakfast and water, please open the door~" A familiar voice of the waiter rang outside.

"Oh? Coming."

Xu Shu, groggy with sleep in his eyes, opened the door.

Dressed neatly and rubbing his eyes, he appeared drowsy and disoriented.

Unfortunate was the quilt thrown out of the window, used to wipe off the bloodstains on his body.

As soon as he opened the door, two burly men rushed in, handcuffed him in a flash, and wrestled him outside.

He immediately started yelling in "shock and horror": "Who are you? What do you want? Help, help—"

"Shut up! Yell again and you’ll get a beating."

"Umm umm umm!"

His mouth was taped up, and Xu Shu’s cries turned into muffled sounds.

He was dragged into the group of other captured people, lining up one by one, like prisoners, being herded by a gang of brutal thieves towards the upper floors.

The familiar 18th floor, the familiar altar Array, the familiar old priest.

But this time, Xu Shu was squatting among the ordinary crowd, having not exposed his strength, no one particularly targeted him.

The old priest, leading all the Believers, was murmuring on the floor in prayer.

The rest of the Black Emperor’s son members, too, knelt down one by one, all very devout, leaving just a few to watch over these ’mortals’, not needing to pay much attention due to the vast difference in strength.

Before them, was an array drawn with fresh blood, and at its heart, a strange incense burner several feet in size, hiding a faint blue light.

Around the Array were several green Erosion Crystals and one blue one.

"Kind of resembles the Heart Fire Incense Burner~" Xu Shu sneakily glanced at the burner a few times.

Though made with blood, the base was laid out.

But it lacked an evil presence, instead, it exuded a sense of sanctity, greatness, and impenetrable mystery.

Led by the old priest, all the Believers gathered, kneeled on the ground, and together chanted loudly: "Burning incense to worship the East Emperor, peaking the burner to honor the Supreme! Drawing Beidou to pour the cassia wine, hope for the law’s grace to descend swiftly! Lie Zhenzi show pity, open the altar for the sacrifice, and bestow the mark upon all living beings."

With a thunderous crash, the priest’s fingers formed seals, trembling, as if enduring great pain.

The ground’s Erosion Crystals quickly shattered, forming a doorway.

An unstable, illusory altar, faintly radiating blue light, had thus descended.

"Quick, the sacrifice is about to start, bring the offerings in..."

the old priest gasped out.

Suddenly a flash crossed his vision as he saw a golden light fall upon the altar.

That was another altar, but clearly much more superior, directly placed on top of his blue altar, in a commanding position.

Golden mystic light, like a laser pointer, instantaneously retraced his originally drawn Array, expanding the altar’s area several times.

This scope was massive, encompassing all the Believers without missing a single one.

"?"

Did I summon the golden altar?

No.

No!

This wasn’t the altar I summoned!

The old priest’s face first froze in confusion, watching as the golden light almost completed a perfect closure, he suddenly had an epiphany, flung himself to the ground, and yelled:
