Chapter 16: A Comforting Embrace. ლ(´ ❥ `ლ)
"Oh my God!" Screams filled the atmosphere...
Leo hit the floor with heavy force, and the impact knocked the breath from his lungs. The two cups of hot coffee he was holding seconds before... tumbled with him, and now sloshed everywhere... A searing warmth spread across his skin as the dark coffee splashed, leaving a black stain across the expensive-looking clothes of the girl he had some issues with...
He scrambled upwards, trying to push himself upright, his mind spinning really fast... A dull, painful ache was already forming in his elbows...
The girl shrieked in frustration, her voice so loud it could probably be heard from outside the plane department zone... "My outfit! You fucking moron! Look at what you’ve done!"
Before Leo could even stammer a word or an apology, the head staff who was there...
His face, usually composed, was now a mask of horror, disappointment, and anger... He walked over, pushing Leo roughly to the side... "Leo! What have you done?!" His voice was low, but laced with rage, resonating with his emotions...
The girl, now on her feet, was fuming, her face red with anger and indignation. The black-suited bodyguards immediately surrounded her, creating a protective barrier as if Leo were some kind of dangerous wild animal... One of them, a massive man with a cold stare, stepped towards Leo, his hand moving subtly to his side, a clear threat...
"Get away from him!" Mr. Yokohama Leo’s boss shouted at the bodyguard as he fully entered the door of the plane department zone. He then turned back to Leo, his eyes blazing. "This is a disaster! Do you have any idea who this is, or what you have done here?!"
Leo, still disoriented from the fall and the sudden confrontation, tried to stand properly, feeling the sticky warmth of coffee soaking into his uniform shirt... "I... I’m so sorry, Sir. I tripped. I didn’t see the cable wire."
"Didn’t see the wire?!" the girl scoffed, practically spitting the words. Her gaze was intense, stripping away any last shred of Leo’s body composure... "You clumsy fool! This outfit costs more than your entire life savings! And now look at it! The shoot is ruined!"
Her words, sharp and cutting, hit Leo harder than the fall itself... The earlier feelings of emptiness and disappointment returned completely, amplified now by the very public humiliation. He felt small, insignificant, just as they had made him feel moments before in the mall staff area... He was nothing more than an inconvenience, a nuisance in their well-orchestrated world...
Mr. Yokohama, meanwhile, was bowing profusely to the girl and her members, practically groveling in their presence... "Miss Yamamoto, I am so incredibly sorry. This is completely unacceptable. He will be disciplined. Severely." He shot a venomous and intense glare at Leo, a silent promise of consequences... "Get out of here, Kuroko! Go to the break room! Now!"
But before Leo could move, a very familiar voice cut through the tense atmosphere, a voice he could never forget in this life or the next...
"Yamamoto... what’s wrong... what’s going on?"
Leo’s eyes widened as he swallowed hard, a dry lump in his throat... He slowly turned his neck towards the entrance. To his surprise, it was Sarah, dressed in a sleek, elegant outfit that hinted at her new movie role, her eyes scanning the scene...
Her eyes widened as soon as she saw him, Leo, soaked in coffee. She rushed over at full speed, her movements swift and determined, almost falling as she navigated around scattered equipment and startled crew members...
"Babe!" she shouted intensely, her voice ringing with concern, as she ran towards him...
The whole crowd of people there were in surprise as soon as Sarah called him babe, including Yamamoto, the girl who had insulted him. A murmurs of whispers spread through the black-suited crew and the onlookers by the corners...
When Sarah got to Leo, she instantly pulled out her handkerchief and started cleaning the coffee off his face. Her touch was gentle despite the urgency of the moment...
Leo’s ears burned with heat... The shame was overwhelming, magnified by Sarah’s unexpected presence... The murmurs of staff members and the judgmental stares of the black-suited group, which were unfortunately Sarah’s movie members, felt like daggers. He could feel their eyes on his back, a burning sensation that made him want to disappear into the floor...
"Babe, are you okay?" She questioned, her voice soft with worry, as she continued to clean his face...
"What are you doing here?" Leo responded, his voice low, a whisper if you may call it..
He turned his face away from her touch, unable to meet her gaze, consumed by embarrassment, and pain...
Her eyes became watery as she paused, her hand still on his cheeks... "We came here to shoot an airplane scene for our movie..." She noticed Leo biting down on his bottom lip so hard that it was bleeding slightly... A flash of Pity and understanding crossed her face...
She turned and bowed quickly to his boss, Mr. Yokohama, and then to her movie crew members, a swift and quick gesture of apology... Then, without another word, she grabbed his hands and dragged him out of the plane department zone, away from the judgmental eyes and the tense atmosphere...
They both walked quickly to an isolated side of the mall, a quiet corner where they could be alone...
They found themselves in a small, cluttered staff area, a rarely used space with a few worn-out chairs and a stained wall. The air here was still and smelled faintly of dust and cleaning supplies...
Leo leaned heavily against the counter, closing his eyes, trying desperately to block out the harsh replay of the last few minutes in his mind...
The sickening crash, the horrified shouts of the people, the girl’s sneering face contorted in anger, and Mr. Yokohama’s furious expression...it was all a complete disaster. The worst part was that Sarah, his girlfriend, had seen him in such a disgraceful state, covered in coffee, humiliated in front of everyone. The memory burned his mind...
He opened his eyes, looking down at his coffee-stained uniform... The dark splotches were a visible, undeniable reminder of his humiliation, clinging to him like a second skin, a body part... He felt a wave of crushing self-pity, quickly followed by a surge of frustration... Why him? Why today? Everything felt like it was going wrong... He was already late for work, and now he had caused a major incident, probably costing him his job, or at the very least, earning him a severe reprimand that would follow him for weeks or even months...
While he was lost in these thoughts, drowning in a sea of his own making, he felt a warm hug cover him... It was Sarah.
In his thoughts, he had completely forgotten that she was there with him...
He tried to speak, to stammer out an explanation, an apology, anything, but he was cut off by her gentle voice...
"Shhhh... babe, it’s okay, you don’t have to say anything... I understand..." She rubbed his hair gently as she spoke, her touch was comforting...
