Chapter 95: Chapter 72: Broken Feng Shui (Part 2)

```
"No way, Uncle. They say that digging will ruin the feng shui and will bring natural disasters," the village chief tried to explain further.
"You’ve been the village chief for several years now, and you’ve attended training in town more than a dozen times, and still, in this day and age, you believe in feudal superstitions. If you’re afraid, I’ll have Duoduo find a construction team tomorrow to dig a channel. We’ll collect the funds door-to-door. I’ve already done the math; it’s 120 per household, and the village will subsidize another 5000 yuan."
"Uncle, this won’t do. If Miao Village starts making trouble over this, it’ll be serious," the village chief said. In previous years, when the village faced water shortages, they borrowed water from Miao Village several times. If the dam is built and relations sour, it will be hard to ask for help next time. As the saying goes, distant relatives are not as helpful as close neighbors. The town government is far away, and in urgent matters, we still need to negotiate with Miao Village. Besides, the village chief has discussed rice cultivation with the village chief of Miao Village. He said that as long as they agree, we will share the secrets of planting new rice varieties and give them some seeds. Judging by the reaction of the village chief of Miao Village, there seemed to be a sign of relenting.
"You are disobeying the organization’s decision; are you trying to rebel? Have you forgotten who carried your father down the mountain when he was sick?" Qian Yongfu had heard from his son recently about investing over ten thousand yuan and was short on cash, so he came up with a bad idea. In the end, whatever construction team is mentioned, it ends up forcing a few villagers who can dig to make a ditch, and once water is directed into the village, it will be fine.
Ge Village has over a hundred households; 120 per household makes 12,000 yuan, plus the 5000 yuan subsidy from the village, makes it 17,000 yuan. If any household disagrees, he’ll seal their well and cut off their electricity day and night. The money that is actually spent on digging the channel doesn’t even hit one percent, so it’s an incredibly profitable deal, and Qian Yongfu is unwilling to compromise.
"Uncle, don’t be angry. I’ll discuss it with the village committee again," said the village chief. The so-called village committee was nothing more than a few idle old villagers.
"No need to discuss. Zhu Zi’s father and Mrs. Yadan have both agreed. Tomorrow morning, while it’s still cool, I’m going to call Duoduo back to dig an outlet at White Dragon Pond. It’s just a channel on our side, so people from Miao Village won’t know," Secretary Qian flicked a few specks of tobacco ash, deciding the matter.
The village chief lay in bed all night without closing his eyes, and as dawn broke, he sat up and paced around his house, then hurriedly knocked on the Zhu family’s door.
Fearing that the old master had gone up the mountain at this hour, the village chief had delayed a bit in the house. After knocking a few times, he heard Xiao Xian come to answer the door.
"Uncle Jin, are you looking for my grandfather?" Xiao Xian hadn’t gone up the mountain with Zhu Shijun for exercise since he started school; he was just about to have breakfast. Seeing that Xiao Xian answered the door, the village chief had no choice but to greet him and plan to go up the mountain to find Zhu Shijun.
Just as he reached the entrance of the village, he saw Qian Duoduo’s car parked there with several rugged construction workers sitting in the back seat. It turned out that the village secretary had called his son at the village broadcast station the night before without informing the village chief, telling him to come back early the next day. By then, the channel would be dug, and the people of Miao Village could only watch helplessly.
Qian Duoduo had returned home the day before and inquired at the police station, where he learned that the skunk gang had been taken to Guiyang for interrogation. Thankfully, the skunk had some loyalty and didn’t rat out Qian Duoduo, who was new to this murky business.
The old policeman held up a finger, saying that they would be sentenced to at least ten years for their crimes. In the end, he didn’t forget to add, "You’re lucky it’s now and not right after the liberation; even stealing a sheep would have netted more time back then. As a person, you must never associate with crime."
You would say that Qian Duoduo had the heart of a thief but not the courage. Just thinking about that ten thousand yuan, he couldn’t help but feel the pinch. Upon hearing about this lucrative new opportunity from his father, there was no need to say that he would drive out at four o’clock the next day.
"Duoduo, why have you come back so early?" The village chief’s confidence waned.
"Isn’t there something going on in the village? You know me, village chief, I’m a warm-hearted person; whatever concerns the village is held close to my heart. You’re just worried that things won’t get done well, right? Rest assured, I’ve even picked out the place for digging the channel. Let’s go take a look together." Qian Duoduo put his arm around the village chief, called out to the men behind him, and they all headed up the mountain.
The rising sun was obscured by heavy clouds, and the sky turned a reddish-gold color, heralding an oncoming storm.
The leaves were still awaiting an adequate amount of autumn sunshine to bake them, slowly turning yellow. Zhu Shijun had just begun his Tai Chi practice, his dark facial hair and steady footsteps moving in the morning light made him look even more spirited.
Along the mountain path, the disorderly footsteps were accompanied by the loud voices of Qian Duoduo and his son. The quiet of the morning was shattered, and Zhu Shijun had no choice but to stop his movements, "Why have they come?" Zhu Shijun wondered, as people like Secretary Qian usually didn’t show up until the sun was three poles high.
"Right here, measure with this ruler, we’ll dig a channel that leads to the base of the mountain; this spot is best," Qian Duoduo pointed out a spot, glancing at Zhu Shijun without greeting.
Zhu Shijun saw that the newcomers had brought construction tool kits and looked at the area Qian Duoduo had outlined, which nearly encompassed the whole area he used for his daily exercises. This did not sit well with him. Indeed, this spot was good; using feng shui terminology, it faced the sunny side of the mountain and backed onto the mountain’s shady side, with auspicious energies and fortunes said to flow from such a configuration.
The entire shape of White Dragon Pond was like a coiled dragon lying dormant, and what Qian Duoduo and his group intended to excavate was the dragon’s mouth.
With each hammer stroke, ripples rippled across White Dragon Pond. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation tickets, monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
