Chapter 93: Chapter 70: The Monk Was Captured, but the Temple Escaped (Part 2)
```
A room full of birds all looked at the two children who had just entered with hostility. Each time that door was opened, several of their kind would disappear. Day by day, the birds in the room were enveloped by the despair of death, and should they have the chance to break free from these cages, their claws and beaks would not hesitate to lash out at the newcomers.
"We need to hurry; we don’t know when Qian Duoduo and the others will come in, and there are also the people who just entered the room," Xiao Xian immediately noticed the air vent on that wall.
"I’ll go over, you stay back. It isn’t good for a girl to get bumped and scratched," Yezi puffed out his not-so-sturdy chest. He didn’t approach the bird cages immediately; instead, he made sure to get a clear look at all the birds in the room first. The various bird cages, big and small, housed birds of different colors and shapes, from long-legged cranes to partridges, a complete collection, like a miniature bird museum.
Thinking of how those people were planning to turn these live birds into specimens filled Yezi with indignation. After inspecting every bird cage, he walked towards one of them, which contained two rainbow pheasants, one of which was injured, crouching inside the cage.
Perhaps the birds were touched by the compassion evident in Yezi’s eyes, or maybe his innate talent for attracting animals and birds played a role at that critical moment.
Yezi slowed his steps, with a friendly gesture, successfully won the trust of the birds, he opened the cages, and the birds scrambled to get out one after another.
"Yezi, let them leave through here; there is a forest behind," As Yezi turned to look for Xiao Xian upon hearing the voice, her figure had already disappeared from the room. Yezi was startled, then he noticed Xiao Xian was hanging beside the air vent - no doubt, it was a spell’s work.
Yezi thought Xiao Xian was going to escape with him through the air vent. Instead, after watching the last bird fly out, she planned to return along the same way.
"What are you planning on doing? Don’t tell me you’re thinking of crawling into that car trunk again," Yezi crouched down and followed Xiao Xian back to the cars. Xiao Xian did not forget to crawl into the trunk but instead poured a pile of nails out of her backpack, scattering them near the group of cars.
The flock of birds, shocked and in a strange place, would not fly around for a while. The people inside would soon discover that the birds had been released; they needed to figure out a way to stall everyone inside and outside.
All of this was achieved without anyone noticing, within the span of an hour. Afterwards, Xiao Xian and Yezi ran onto the road, found a passing tricycle, "Uncle, please take us to the Bai Family Ancient Town police station."
At this moment, the "skunk" and his gang had just rushed out from the warehouse, with Qian Duoduo and his crew swaying from too much alcohol, adding a touch of beauty to the already stunning Miss Aisha, obliviously whistling.
"Everyone, get up, are you all blind? All the birds in the warehouse have flown away," Skunk was so angry he kicked one of his men. Upon hearing the news about the birds, they all scrambled to their feet in a panic. In recent years, the suburban areas of the ancient town had been developed, and the closest temporary haven for birds was the small forest about a kilometer away from the building.
Skunk took the lead and climbed into a car, Qian Duoduo could not care less about his drunkenness, and managed to get into his battered Santana. When Skunk invited him into the gang, he had paid a ten thousand yuan membership fee, and now it seemed like that money was wasted.
He had just started the car when the rear of the vehicles sagged suddenly, and a terrifying hissing noise of air leaking from tires filled the air.
"Dammit, a flat tire now of all times," Skunk jumped out of the car, bent down to inspect, and found a handful of nails under the wheels.
All the cars were sabotaged, Skunk didn’t even have the energy left to curse. Suddenly a car horn sounded behind him, and the interpreter poked his head out: "Come on, get in. Miss Aisha’s car from the United States is reliable—just a few nails and it took you guys out. Useless." The contempt in his voice couldn’t be more obvious.
Skunk thought to himself, the one who released the birds had used such devious means, even blocking their escape route. He wondered if it was the work of his competitor. But thinking too much was useless. He selected two adept bird catchers, leaving Qian Duoduo looking on longingly, and headed for the forest.
Qian Duoduo had prayed to all the gods and bodhisattvas, hoping Skunk could catch some birds and bring them back. His Santana had also suffered a puncture, but fortunately, he had a spare tire. After changing the tire and checking the time, he realized he needed to go home and reassure his wife. Otherwise, the "tigress" at home would start "greeting" his ancestors for N generations.
Turning the corner, Qian Duoduo saw several police cars approaching. At first, he paid them no mind, but then he noticed the police split into two groups after they’d passed; one headed towards the warehouse where the birds had been kept, and the other towards the small forest in the direction of the Cherokee. This discovery immediately made him break out in a cold sweat; someone had called the police.
He quickly applied the brakes, stopped the car by the side of the road, tossed out the wire net and homemade gun from his trunk, and found a car wash to thoroughly clean inside and outside the car.
"Now, even if Skunk and his guys do get caught and give a confession, I can firmly deny knowing any of them," Qian Duoduo drove off to his workplace with ease.
In Bai Family Ancient Town, Xiao Xian and Yezi were preparing to find a ride home. "Xiao Xian, look over there," Yezi pointed towards the direction of the street corner, where several police cars passed by, with Skunk and his crew sitting despondently inside.
Xiao Xian noticed not the people caught in the police cars but the off-road vehicle following closely behind.
The imposing black off-road vehicle came to a stop, and a shoulder-length blonde girl stepped out. Her appearance was captivating, but what was more striking was that upon exiting the car, she was holding two brightly feathered rainbow pheasants in her arms.
