Chapter 150: Chapter 89: The Little Liar Who Calls a Deer a Horse (Third Watch)

Qian Yongcai didn’t sleep well all night. His mistress noticed his unusual behavior and asked a few questions, only to receive a scolding in return.

The next early morning, Qian Yongcai put on that cheap suit he wore for the mayoral election. On second thought, it’s a bad omen, isn’t it? If he lost again like during the election, that would be trouble.

After quickly changing into another outfit, Qian Yongcai combed his few remaining hairs towards the back of his head and left the house.

Since Qian Duoduo went crazy, that Volkswagen automatically fell into Qian Yongcai’s hands.

When he arrived at Blue Sky Apartment, he glanced at his watch; it was only eight o’clock. Qian Yongcai thought again that he couldn’t just give him the tree for nothing, so he went to the bank and withdrew five thousand yuan, thinking it should be enough. Seeing that the young girl was just a chick, how much could she possibly charge? Perhaps if he bought her a new dress and she was happy, she would give the seedlings to him for free.

When the car turned back, the young girl from last night was already waiting at the entrance. Just standing there, she was more pleasing to the eye than the willows with their three thousand drooping branches beside her.

A thirteen or fourteen-year-old girl, lively as water, a charming sight wherever she stood, Qian Yongcai pinched his thigh to quiet down the sleazy thoughts swirling in his head.

"Uncle, you’re here?" Xiao Xian recognized Qian Duoduo’s car from a distance, but she didn’t show any surprise. Instead, her melon-seed face broke into a smile, looking very pleasing to the eye.

"Young girl, what’s your name? I didn’t get the chance to ask last night," Qian Yongcai hurriedly opened the car door, gesturing for Xiao Xian to get in. It was a pity that the young girl did not sit in the passenger seat, but instead opened the back door and sat in the back.

"Zhou Xiaoxian," the first name that popped into Xiao Xian’s head.

"Nice name, ’Xiao Xian, Xiao Xian’, looking just like a little fairy," Qian Yongcai earnestly asked Xiao Xian if she had eaten breakfast. Xiao Xian dared not eat the food he bought, and when Qian Yongcai offered to go to the department store to buy her some clothes, she refused as well.

Qian Yongcai found himself at a loss and had to steer the conversation back to the matter at hand, secretly thinking that the young girl was quite shrewd.

"Xiao Xian, are you sure you can take me to a hundred or so red-bud locust trees today? I can’t mess this up, otherwise I’d be in big trouble," Qian Yongcai still had doubts about Xiao Xian, and he probed further.

"Uncle, don’t worry, it definitely won’t be wrong. Just drive towards the suburbs, in about an hour or so, we should find it." Xiao Xian looked out the window with a hint of playfulness in her eyes.

The countryside of Guiyang was full of farmhouses, dilapidated houses, and muddy roads, which made Qian Yongcai’s heart hang again.

After circling around a bumpy dirt road, Xiao Xian called for a stop. Outside, Qian Yongcai saw nothing but a few cattle grazing on grass and a bamboo fence.

When they heard the car, a makeshift garden surrounded by bamboo fences, an old peasant walked out, "Miss Xiao Xian, you’re here." He sounded quite familiar.

Qian Yongcai then saw Xiao Xian push open the bamboo gate, pointing to the greenery inside, "Uncle, those are our family’s locust trees, go have a look."

The bamboo fence enclosed five or six acres of land, with only one crop in the field. Here, the red-bud locust trees varied in height and size, some were flowering, and some were pruned into ornamental shapes.

Qian Yongcai looked at the old farmer’s face covered in the lines of hard work, then watched as Xiao Xian casually grabbed a pair of scissors and snipped off a branch of locust leaves. Oval pinnate leaves, butterfly-shaped purplish-red pea flowers, they indeed looked just like the ones he moved yesterday.

"Xiao Xian, is this garden yours?" Qian Yongcai did not believe that the old farmer, who looked like a mud loach, could raise such a delicate and pretty girl.

"It’s my fake uncle’s," Xiao Xian said, hanging on the old farmer’s arm and sweetly calling in his ear, "Fake Uncle."

The old farmer nodded repeatedly when he heard this. Seeing this, Qian Yongcai dropped all his suspicions and picked out nearly a hundred saplings of red-bud locust trees in the field, roughly the same size and shape as the ones in Blue Sky Apartment.

"Xiao Xian, there are a total of a hundred red-bud locust trees. How much do you think they should be?" Xiao Xian didn’t expect Qian Yongcai to decide to buy the trees so quickly and didn’t know how to quote a price right away.

"Hiring a deaf old farmer to pose as a fake uncle and planting these acres of ’red-bud locust trees’ cost me all three hundred yuan. Uncle San Gouzi said that I can’t make a losing deal, so let’s go with five hundred," Xiao Xian said, spreading out one hand.
