Chapter 106: Chapter 75: Taking Action for Dignity (Part 2)

"Darn those Chinese," Mitchell gritted her teeth in anger, slamming the papers in her hand to the floor.

Helen pointed towards the door as a burst of footsteps came from the hallway, a dazzlingly beautiful young girl was brought in by a tall and handsome male student.

"Mitchell, Helen heard that you must submit your papers and experimental results by tomorrow. You should rest early to avoid being outperformed by another team from Asia," the girl’s voice carried a touch of displeasure, for she had noticed the two foreign students sizing up her new male companion.

The two female international students fawningly nodded, as Aisha walked into the room, and the male student hurriedly followed.

"What’s so great about her?" Mitchell immediately shed her flattering expression and put on a malicious face.

"Alas, some people lead different lives. Just look at Aisha; she is younger than us by a whole cycle. The line of people chasing after her could stretch all the way to the school gates. What’s even more infuriating is that not only is she beautiful and comes from a good family, but she’s also extremely smart. Every research institute is vying for her, and I also heard that Mengshan Company has already considered her as one of the predetermined hires," Helen said as she let out a fake laugh, but her eyes couldn’t stop glancing over Mitchell’s face. This time, Mengshan Company only had two spots, meaning that besides Aisha, only one other person could be selected.

"Heh, just have a fair competition," Mitchell had long dismissed Zheng Hao from her mind, but she still needed that man for now. Since she couldn’t get her hands on the paper, she must stage another act tomorrow. After all, she couldn’t afford to lose to the Chinese, could she?

Back in China, it was the first day of the Lunar New Year, and every household was still immersed in the festive atmosphere, but Cornell University was already a hive of activity. The weather wasn’t too kind, as it was a blizzard today.

Like previous years, snow started to fall in the campus after Christmas. This year was no exception; the entire campus was blanketed with layers of thick snow. The mounds of snow piled up by the cleaners were as high as an adult’s knees, and just when the roadway was cleared, a new blanket of snow descended heavily, obscuring the lawn that had been used for gatherings the day before.

From the dormitory to the academic building where classes were held, it took a good twenty minutes to walk. If it were a sunny day with blooming flowers and lush greenery in spring, students would actually enjoy trekking through it. But in such snowy weather, breathing too boldly would lead to choking on the gusty, snowy winds, turning it into a tough job.

The international students who had partied hard last night were all straining their energies, preparing assignments and starting the first round of final exams. Zhou Ziang’s roommate had woken up early, layered on sweaters and heavy cotton clothing, yet his hands and feet still couldn’t find their warmth.

The living conditions for undergraduates were a little worse than those of graduate dorms; double rooms, shared kitchens, and restrooms, and an old-style heater was laboriously producing some heat.

"It must be around minus seven or eight degrees Celsius outside," the roommate muttered. He had originally planned to ask for leave today, but both of the professors for his two classes were conducting final exam reviews, which were crucial for a last-minute crammer like him.

"It’s 18 degrees Fahrenheit. Breathing could almost freeze into ice particles," Zhou Ziang had woken up very early, already dressed in his overcoat, ready to go.

"Why are you holding two coats?" The roommate stamped his feet, noticing Zhou Ziang in a light gray wool overcoat, with an unfamiliar bulging down coat in his hand. He rushed to make a cup of milk, thankful for having Zhou Ziang as a free alarm clock that nearly made it impossible for him to be late or skip classes.

"Borrowed it from Senior Brother Yao last night, need to return it to him this morning," Zhou Ziang said as he opened the room door. The wind was fierce, blowing in and lifting a corner of the coat, revealing that there appeared to be a few sheets of paper underneath.

"Hey, aren’t you going to class? Today is a review session, they said..." The roommate called out from behind, but Zhou had already walked far away. Looking out the window, one could see a figure moving swiftly through the snowstorm, as if unaffected by the wind and snow around him.

In the northwest of Cornell University, outside a Victorian-style academic building, Yao Feng was walking through the blizzard with his cap and scarf, his vision obstructed by the wind and snow. He stumbled, nearly falling to the ground, but an arm caught him, pulling him up.

"It’s Zhou," Yao Feng had been bustling about during last night’s New Year’s Eve, and now his eyes were still bloodshot and weary. Zhou Ziang seemed to say something, but the wind and snow were too strong, and with his earmuffs on, Yao Feng couldn’t hear anything clearly.
