Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Visiting the Sick

Shen Yiguang saluted her military-style, "I swear to the Party, I will never despise my wife!"

Yang PeiMin couldn’t help but chuckle again.

"Enough talking, I want to eat an apple now."

Shen Yiguang picked up an apple to peel it, but Yang PeiMin stopped him, "I want to eat mashed apple, spoon by spoon, feed me!"

Shen Yiguang smiled and agreed.

Yang PeiMin then felt satisfied.

On the fourth day of her stay in the hospital, classmates and roommates started coming to visit her, exchanging a few words with her.

Yang PeiMin instructed Shen Yixiang to give a red envelope to anyone who brought something, when they were leaving, a trick she learned from Zhang Minghua, as a way to reciprocate; couldn’t just take advantage of others for free.

However, in the end, she was overthinking it, everyone had their struggles, no one brought anything.

"PeiMin, are you feeling better now? When are you being discharged? Sanni is about to be discharged too," Cheng Aihua asked.

"You scared us to death when you were admitted after saying you weren’t pregnant," Tan Yan chided her slightly.

Yang PeiMin detected an underlying tone in her words and laughed, "Yeah, I really didn’t know before. Now, I won’t be leaving the hospital anytime soon. My sister will return to the dorm to tidy up my things a bit, so no one should be surprised."

Tan Yan looked questioning and asked, "So how long will you stay in the hospital? Will you return to the dorm after being discharged?" Glancing at Shen Yixiang beside her, she added, "Then your sister-in-law won’t be able to take care of you conveniently."

She didn’t want Yang PeiMin to move back into the dorm, a dorm with one pregnant woman was already a handful, adding another would make it impossible to sleep, and everyone else’s belongings would be in complete disarray.

Yang PeiMin knew what she meant and glanced around at the others, who also harbored similar thoughts to some extent, due to the dormitory life being disrupted by Ge Sanni’s constant vomiting. Now that Sanni was hospitalized, the dorm was much quieter, and everyone could absorb considerably more information while studying.

Beside her, Shen Yixiang inwardly sneered, feeling unable to listen any longer, and spoke, "It’s not safe to climb up and down in the dorm; we’d rather rent a place outside, we won’t be returning to the dorm."

Tan Yan instantly relaxed, her smile becoming much more genuine, "PeiMin, you’re really blessed; your in-laws care so much about you, even renting a house for you to nurture your pregnancy. We can only envy that."

Yang PeiMin also smiled and agreed.

The room fell silent for a few seconds; Tan Yan thought Yang PeiMin was too immodest and thick-skinned.

But having gotten the answer she wanted, she lost interest in staying any longer, making an excuse of needing to return to school for homework to leave.

Yang PeiMin also politely asked Shen Yixiang to see them out.

When Shen Yixiang came back, she couldn’t help but vent to Yang PeiMin, "Sister-in-law, that Tan Yan in your dorm is so annoying. She even chased you to the hospital to ask if you were going back to stay in the dorm, acting as if she owned the place."

Yang PeiMin shook her head, "We’ve seen plenty of people like her, haven’t we?"

"But I didn’t expect to find such people in university either?"

"Well, isn’t there a saying that in a big forest, there are all kinds of birds? There’s nothing surprising about this. Some people, who everyone thinks are good when their own interests aren’t involved, will act to defend their interests when they are. Then some people think they are too selfish and harsh. Aren’t there many people like this? Living in this complicated world, we encounter all kinds of people every day. We can’t avoid them, but what we can do is let these unhappy people and events go in one ear and out the other."

"We’re not planning to stay in the dorm anyway, which you just told them."

Shen Yixiang nodded, "Then try to interact with her less from now on."

Yang PeiMin also laughed and agreed.

As they were talking, someone knocked on the door.

Shen Yixiang stood up to open the door, and outside were Ge Sanni, who was heavily pregnant, and Feng Erxi.

"PeiMin, I came to visit you," Ge Sanni entered with a rather joyous air.

"I heard everyone was coming over today. Sanni was also discharged from the hospital. I thought we’d come and check on you. We were here earlier but saw you were sleeping, so we didn’t stay long. How is it going? What did the doctor say, did he say when you will be discharged?" Feng Erxi followed behind and entered.

"I’m feeling better," Yang PeiMin politely asked them to sit down and talk, "but the doctor said the baby is still not very stable, and I’ll need to stay here for a while longer before they reassess the situation."

Feng Erxi nodded, "That’s understandable, your injury was quite severe."

Ge Sanni surveyed Yang PeiMin’s room. Though it wasn’t large, it was tidy and independent. Opposite the bed, there was a little cupboard attached to the wall, and next to her bed was a small table, both spotlessly clean. The inviting room even had apples and oranges, fruits you wouldn’t see all year round, casually placed there in a small basket, piled high with about twenty or so.

After Tan Yan, Shen Yixiang had been especially concerned about Yang PeiMin’s dorm mates. As Ge Sanni entered, she noticed. Now, seeing her glance resting on the fruits on the table, a slight smirk of pride unwittingly appeared on Shen Yixiang’s face, "Sister Ge, isn’t it strange to see fruits at this time of the year? These were specially bought by my brother. The doctor also said that it’s good for pregnant women to eat some fruits in moderation. Some can even make the baby smarter, like those walnuts, though they’re few and my sister-in-law has already eaten them all. We’ll have to wait a few days to get more."

After saying all that, she didn’t even offer them any. The smile on Ge Sanni’s lips seemed somewhat strained.

Feng Erxi laughed, "That’s how it should be. A pregnant woman tends to be picky. I remember I was the same. Once, I saw someone selling candied hawthorns, and I was so craving them. But the fruit in it was made with hawthorn, which pregnant women can’t eat. Even though I knew I couldn’t eat it, I was just so craving. It was heart-wrenching."

"So we’re all experienced," Yang PeiMin laughed.

"Why haven’t we seen your husband, PeiMin?" Ge Sanni asked.

Shen Yixiang hurriedly answered, "My brother is busy with work in the army. He won’t be able to come until he gets off work tonight. By the way, Sister Ge, you’ve been in the hospital for quite a few days, and it seems your family hasn’t come to see you. Are they too busy, or is it too far for them?"
