Chapter 291: Chapter 291: Dealing (Fourth Update)
Everything was sorted out, and Shen Yixiang had also returned.
Shen Yiguang asked her to stay and watch over things while he went back to their rental place to get clothes and blankets. He planned to stay the night and also had to get some food to bring back.
Realizing it was now completely dark outside, and everyone had still not eaten, especially Yang Peimin, the doctors had already said she could eat now—she should eat small meals frequently and they needed to be nutritious to help her recover quickly.
Li Yue, Gao Lingfeng, and several of Yang Peimin’s roommates had come over.
Everyone was happy to hear that Yang Peimin had woken up. Considering she shouldn’t be disturbed too much or be strained, they took a quick glance inside and left. Shen Yixiang stayed with the visitors outside and briefed them on Yang Peimin’s condition.
After updating everyone, Shen Yixiang scanned the crowd for the two culprits responsible for the accident. She was not one to let things slide easily. "My sister-in-law has only managed to save the child for now. She’s suffered a lot. What do you two plan on doing about it?"
The two bowed apologetically, "We’re sorry."
Gao Lingfeng spoke up, "The school is aware of the situation and has taken care of it. Thinking it wasn’t intentional, the school has agreed to cover half of the medical expenses. The two of them are thinking about how to handle the other half. Although it was accidental, they were still reckless and didn’t watch out for pedestrians. Even if it was urgent, they shouldn’t have been so rash. This will serve as a lesson for them."
Since the school had already dealt with the issue, Shen Yixiang didn’t feel it was her place to add more. Looking at the two students with regret written all over their faces, she couldn’t help but feel a bit of sympathy—it was just bad luck.
Plus, seeing their pale faces, she knew that the medical expenses must be a heavy burden for them.
She thought that the pregnant woman who first claimed to feel unwell and asked for a stretcher should bear the costs. After all, it was in trying to assist her that the accident happened, causing her sister-in-law such suffering.
While thinking this, she asked, "Have you guys visited the pregnant woman who was complaining of stomach pain at the beginning?"
The two exchanged glances and both shook their heads, "No, we haven’t. The student taking care of her mentioned she’s alright and should be discharged after a couple of days’ observations." Their meaning was clear: there didn’t seem to be a serious issue on her end, so they hadn’t visited.
Shen Yixiang reminded them, "You did help her, after all. She’s probably feeling uneasy about the whole thing. If you don’t visit her, how can she properly thank you and rest easy to recover?"
Gao Lingfeng looked at Shen Yixiang, a smile in his eyes as he shook his head but didn’t say anything.
He didn’t interfere—things were already settled.
The two young men nodded, "Well then, since we’re here, we might as well pay her a visit. It’ll give us some peace of mind, too."
Watching them leave, Shen Yixiang then returned to the ward.
Knowing that Yang Peimin shouldn’t be worried with these matters, she didn’t bring them up to her.
Ge Sanni had just woken up from a nap, roused by hunger. She had only eaten half a steamed bun at noon, and had thrown it all up after. Looking outside at the dark skies, she couldn’t be surprised—it was already night.
Feng Erxi was beside her, holding paper and pen, memorizing problems by rote.
Ge Sanni glanced at her and said, "Erxi, what time is it now? I don’t even know if there’s a cafeteria in the hospital, or if we can go get some food."
Hearing her voice, Feng Erxi hurriedly looked outside, "Look at me, I was so engrossed in this problem that I forgot how late it was. Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?"
"If they have porridge, I’d really like a bowl of porridge."
"Okay, I’ll go outside and check. I don’t know what they’ll have, but if there isn’t any porridge, I can bring you some noodles, is that okay?"
"That’s fine. Oh, and I’ve been asleep for who knows how long; Pei Min should be out by now, right? Have you been to see her?"
Feng Erxi glanced at her, "I went to check. She’s stable for now, but her condition isn’t good. The doctor said that her family needs to take meticulous care of her, they can’t allow her to exert herself at all, not even talking. I didn’t see her myself, it was her sister-in-law who told me. Her sister-in-law was so worried her eyes were all swollen from crying. It was quite pitiful to see."
"Is that so?" Ge Sanni replied, her expression a bit downcast.
Feng Erxi knew what she was thinking and advised, "Sanni, I think we shouldn’t bring it up. They’re in need of money right now, and even if Pei Min normally has some to spare, that money is for Pei Min’s use; we don’t know whether her sister-in-law has any or not. And about... about Pei Min falling, it was... sigh, it was the two students who were carrying your stretcher who bumped into her. I think we’d better let it go..."
Ge Sanni turned her head to look at her, her face a mixture of innocence and disbelief, and after a moment, she hastily defended, "This, this is something no one expected. I didn’t expect they would bump into someone. I was in so much pain from my stomach, and that student was just trying to be helpful, rushing to call for help. Maybe they were too hasty and accidentally tripped... Pei Min isn’t the type to blame others... Ah well, perhaps I should go and apologize to her."
Feng Erxi shook her head, "They don’t blame you, it’s just, it’s just... You don’t know how much Pei Min’s family values the child in her womb. If they think about you, they’ll definitely be bothered. If nothing’s wrong, then it’s fine, but if something happens... They might get emotional and even lash out. Haven’t I seen such things happen before?"
Ge Sanni looked a little embarrassed after hearing this.
Feng Erxi was pleased to see that she had dismissed the idea, "Alright, I’ll go get you some food."
Ge Sanni said, "Erxi, all my money went to your hospitalization fee earlier, so now for the food, I can only borrow yours, I’m sorry. You cover it for me first. I’ll tell my husband about it and ask him to send money as soon as possible."
Feng Erxi thought about the twenty cents in her pocket she was saving for the bus ride home and was momentarily at a loss. Earlier, when Ge Sanni said she didn’t have enough money, she and Guo Caixia had taken most of the cash they had to lend it to her, thinking that it was urgently needed, without giving it much thought. She planned to return to the dorm in the evening if there was nothing serious here, and the little money left was enough for the bus ride and dinner.
Seeing Feng Erxi standing still, Ge Sanni asked, "What’s wrong, Erxi? If there are no noodles, steamed buns are fine too. Just get me two, I’m worried I’ll get hungry later and won’t find anything to eat."
The Mixed Flour Steamed Buns cost five cents each, and the bus fare was also five cents per ride, so with the twenty cents, she could buy three steamed buns.
After doing the math, Feng Erxi left to get the food.
She didn’t expect to bump into some classmates just as she stepped out.
"We came to see how Ge is doing."
Feng Erxi brought them in.
Ge Sanni greeted everyone with a smile, "It’s nothing much, just staying for a couple of days to be observed. Thanks for coming to see me."
Cheng Aihua said, "The people you should be most thankful to are Zhang and Student Ou. Not only did they bring you the stretcher, but they also bumped into Pei Min because of it. They have to compensate Pei Min for her medical expenses."
