Chapter 289: Chapter 289 Situation
The door to the emergency room swung open, and the three people outside reflexively stood up, "Doctor, how’s the patient?"
The doctor in a white coat removed his mask and nodded at them, "The baby has been temporarily saved, but it’s not certain. She took a heavy blow to the stomach, and now the fetus is very unstable. She needs to be hospitalized for observation."
The three of them simultaneously let out a sigh of relief, then nodded earnestly, their eyes fixed on the doctor, hoping he would say more.
"Who will come to handle the hospitalization procedures?"
Shen Yixiang hurriedly raised her hand, "Me, I’ll go, I’m a family member of the patient."
The doctor nodded and motioned for her to follow the nurse behind him.
Gao Lingfeng, watching the doctor ready to leave, quickly asked, "Doctor, how is the patient now? Can we go in to see her? Can she eat anything?"
The doctor glanced at him and nodded, "You can see her, but please be careful. She needs to rest now and can’t be stressed. It’s best not to talk much, don’t feed her anything for now. Let’s wait until she’s over this period. However, she can drink some broth. Use a straw for her to sip on. She can’t move right now, and that’s very important. Absolutely no movement, and no significant head movements either. The baby could be miscarried at any time, and you as family members must be cautious."
Shen Yixiang, just about to leave, heard this and quickly turned back. She fumbled a pen and paper out of her pocket, scribbling in a fluster, "Doctor, what else? I don’t know anything, just tell me, and I will make note of it."
"For now, that’s how things stand. Once she stabilizes a bit, I will discuss the specifics with you. Right now, taking care of the patient requires extreme caution. Absolutely no noise, let her get plenty of rest, understand?"
"I understand, I’ve got it all down."
Gao Lingfeng also hurriedly expressed his gratitude.
Shen Yixiang shuffled her feet and said to Gao Lingfeng and Li Yue, "I want, I want to go in and see my sister-in-law."
Li Yue said, "I’m here, you go take care of the procedures quickly. Rest assured, I remember all of the doctor’s instructions."
Shen Yixiang hesitated before walking away.
Gao Lingfeng shook his head.
Li Yue then said, "She’s just scared. Even if the patient is her sister-in-law, she doesn’t have the nerve to go in and see her."
Gao Lingfeng gave her a glance, his eyebrows raising in slight surprise, "Huh, you seem to understand quite well?"
Li Yue, considering his respect as her teacher, held back and smiled, "I haven’t lived these twenty years for nothing."
Gao Lingfeng clucked his tongue.
Pretending not to hear, Li Yue swiftly entered the ward.
Inside, a nurse was wheeling Yang PeiMin out. Li Yue asked in alarm, "Where is she going?"
"This patient needs special care and can’t handle disturbance. We’re arranging a separate room for her. You’re a family member, right? Follow along."
Li Yue quickly followed, her eyes anxiously set on Yang PeiMin, who was lying with her eyes closed, her complexion pale, like a lifeless porcelain doll. A tightness clenched Li Yue’s heart as she asked urgently, "What’s happened to her?"
"Don’t worry, she just got an injection to stabilize the pregnancy and has fallen asleep."
Li Yue quickly tiptoed around.
After entering the private ward, the nurse gave them another reminder and then left.
Li Yue sat down next to Yang Peimin, her eyes fixed on the IV bottle above, while Gao Lingfeng went out upon hearing footsteps outside.
It was Feng Erxi and Guo Caixia outside. They asked, "Teacher Ling, we heard Peimin is out now. How is she doing?"
"The baby is safe for now. If you’re going to visit her, wait until she’s more stable. She can’t be disturbed right now."
The two nodded repeatedly, "It’s good that the baby is safe. We understand. We’ll come over when she’s feeling better."
Shen Yixiang finished the paperwork and came back, nodding politely upon seeing them at the door.
Gao Lingfeng said to her, "Can you stay here and keep watch? I have a class soon, and I need to rush back."
Shen Yixiang nodded earnestly, bowing to him, "Thank you, teacher, for your concern. I’ll keep an eye on things here; it’s all right. Don’t delay your class on her account."
"Okay, if there’s anything, have someone come and tell me. I’ll come back after my evening class. She’s my student after all. There’s no need for formalities; it also happened right under my watch."
Having said this, Gao Lingfeng also called Li Yue out and asked if she would go back with him, as he had a class to teach, "Someone is here to watch over things. Passing water and running errands will suffice. Staying on only adds to the noise and is of no use. Why don’t you come back with me to class? It’s not far, and you can come back later to visit her."
Li Yue didn’t want to leave, but it also wasn’t right to blatantly skip class in front of the teacher. She looked at Shen Yixiang.
Shen Yixiang was quick to read the room and hurriedly said, "Mr. Gao is right. You should hurry back to class. I’ve got things covered here. If there’s anything, I’ll ask for help. You are close with my sister-in-law, so you could also help me copy some notes for her, as she can’t return to school right now. She might rely on you to catch her up on classes."
Only then did Li Yue relax her frown, "You’re right. I’ll come back later. Take good care of yourself."
Seeing them about to leave, Guo Caixia felt the urge as well. She looked at Feng Erxi and said, "Xiao Lian is still in the dorm; I’ve been out for so long and keep thinking about her..."
Feng Erxi nodded, "Indeed, who knows if that girl followed out or not. You better go back and check on her. I’ll stay here a bit longer."
"Okay then. Sanni still has one shot left. After you’re done here and if there’s nothing else, you should head back too. There are nurses here." Guo Caixia said this to Feng Erxi in a lowered voice.
Feng Erxi hesitated a bit but also nodded, "I understand. I’ve already sent a telegram to her family. If she needs to stay longer, we can have them come over. I’ll stay here today. Otherwise, there’s nobody to even fetch her food. Once things are more stable tomorrow, I’ll go back and attend classes."
Guo Caixia’s reminder also stemmed from the fact that she felt guilty for leaving Feng Erxi alone. As the end of the term approached and classes intensified, caring for a classmate instead of attending their own lessons could lead to falling behind academically. But seeing Feng Erxi’s determination, Guo Caixia didn’t press further.
She returned with Gao Lingfeng and Li Yue on the bus.
Feng Erxi mentioned to Shen Yixiang that she could go to the hospital canteen to bring back a thermos of hot water to keep on hand for Yang Peimin to wipe her face and hands with later.
Shen Yixiang agreed and, maintaining the formalities, inquired about the patient she was looking after, "I heard she’s stable now. How is she holding up? When can she be discharged?"
Feng Erxi shook her head, thinking of Ge Sanni’s condition. She really couldn’t say for sure. Because she had forgotten her textbook earlier, she was hurrying back to the dorm to get it for class and accidentally hit her belly against the corner of a table. She saw blood immediately. Her pregnancy was over three months, nearly four, and she had been stressing a lot besides. Now, with this additional strain, she probably needed to rest properly.
"She seems to be in good spirits, but as for when she can be discharged, I’m not sure... Well, I won’t disturb you any longer."
Shen Yixiang nodded quickly, regretting asking the question, as she was anxious to go in and check on her sister-in-law, with no time to spare worrying about someone else.
