Chapter 233: Operation Wolf Slayer. (Part 21)
"Thanks, Sunray." With his wounds healed, Werewolf stood up and prepared to joining the battle.
"Be more careful." Sunray replied, pouting a little. "Just because you look like a beast doesn’t mean you have to act like one."
"Yeah, I will be more careful."
Though his transformation came with its own healing factor, there was a limit to the damage it could fix. Cuts and wounds healed instantly, but broken bones and fangs needed a lot more time, something they Team Silver Wind didn’t currently have. That is when Sunray comes in.
Being a Level 3, she was capable off dealing a significant damage in a battle, but what mad her truly valuable was her ability to heal others. Genomes with healing abilities were quite rare, and Sunray’s addition to the team allowed Silver Wind to operate at a much higher efficiency than the others.
Night Gale and White Arrow were going a great job holding back the Romano executioner, but they wouldn’t last long. Knowing that, Werewolf rushed to rejoin the battle, taking the right moment to pounce on their opponent.
Unlike their previous fights where he kept his fists tightly clenched, refusing to rely on his claws, Werewolf made use of everything he had, including his fangs. It made for a rather horrifying sight. Anyone watching would think he had gone made because of the transformation, but he was entirely in control.
Carlo Romano was capable of rivaling him in physical terms, which meant he was using several other sorcerous Arts to enhance himself beside the one that allows him to control the silver substance.
They exchanges several blows. Each time, Werewolf’s claws scrapped against the surface of the silver shield, which seems to harden at just the right moment. Night Gale and White Arrow continued their support, with the white clad using every opening he had to shoot one of his explosive arrow while the team leader ensured their enemy doesn’t get to back.
The fight was affecting their surroundings. The walls began to fall, unable to hold themselves together as more and more cracks spread through them. With each one that crumbled, the inner structure of the hotel revealed itself a little. While some of the walls were made from normal bricks and cement, others were reinforced with the same allow panels as the gates sealing the building. The elevator shafts seemed to be encased in the same material, which was the reason why the heroes couldn’t just break in from the side and use them to reach the lower floors.
The same was for the floor, as well as the ceiling. No matter how intense the battle got, they stilled on, refusing to bend in the slightest.
Loud bangs continued to reverberate through the forty seventh floor, violent winds blowing through its corridors. Most came from the explosive punches Carlo Big Fist Romano threw at Werewolf, who continued to block instead of dodging, sometimes negating them by countering with his own strikes.
Night Gale found herself overwhelmed despite her power over winds and air, and as the battle stretched on, the openings white Arrow could use were getting few and far between.
Soon enough, it started to become more apparent that, even though they were both Level 4, Werewolf couldn’t measure up to scar faced Carlo. In his rush to get gain some advantage, the furry hero caught an opening and went for it, finally landing a strike. His claws sank into Carlo’s flank, carving deep lines through it, but what they drew wasn’t the crimson blood that should have come out.
Watching a man bleed liquid silver gave the hero pause, something his opponent made use of right away, forcing him to realize the opening was just a trap. The liquid silver seeping from the wound coalesced into a number of floating spheres that suddenly shot out, becoming silver bullets that pierced Werewolf’s tough hide.
They say a silver bullet was one of the only ways to kill a werewolf, and though there was no way to confirm that, with the creatures being just a myth, there was no doubt that they could kill a human if thy landed in the right place.
Of course, the bullets created through the Romano’s esoteric Art, Argentomancy, were much more lethal than the average round, wrecking havoc inside the victim’s body soon after finding a way inside.
"Argh!!!"
Werewolf could only cry as sharp pain flashed through his nerves, causing him to momentarily lose focus. Carlo seemed entirely unaffected by the wound dealt to him, immediately sealing it and twisting his body as if charging a punch.
For a moment there, it felt like he was about to repeat what happened in his first attack, blasting Werewolf dozens of meters away. At the last instant, the furry hero forced his mind to ignore the pain and countered from an unlikely position, managing to negate the attack at the cost of dislocating his shoulder.
The agony overwhelmed him once more, but his mental defenses lasted, allowing him fight through the suffering and make use of the gap following Scar Face’s attack. With one arm injured and the other in no position to attack, Werewolf didn’t hesitate to make use of his fangs. Carl tilted head head on reflex, leaving his neck open for the attack. He managed to shift the liquid silver at the last moment, hardening it instantly, but when the rows of fangs snapped on it, the coating began to creak and grown.
Werewolf felt that he was trying to bite a block of steal. His jaws had the strength, but it felt like his fangs weren’t going to last. That was a mere illusion, however. Barely a second passed since he bit into his opponent, and though the silver coating managed to block his fangs, it gave in under the pressure right away.
With the force holding them gone, Werewolf’s jaws snapped shut, carving a big chunk of Carlo’s neck and shoulder. This time, crimson red blood bloomed from the wound.
The Romano executioner fell to the floor, his eyes torn wide as his life’s essence flowed from his severed arteries. The liquid silver he used to shield himself moved, but before he could do anything with it, a white arrow pierced his head. The last thing he saw was the visage of the beast bathed in his blood. An instant later, everything was swallowed by brilliant light.
