Chapter 996: Chapter 788: 7-Person Hot Spring Journey
It’s hard to tell day from night.
Inside the room, sweat falls in damp droplets.
Clothing stripped bare, breaths grow heavy.
Xu Yang had lost track of time; with every snap, he followed through.
After six sequences of artistic shots, the room was filled with large photographs of Farosa taken by Xu Yang.
Xu Yang felt as though he were being watched by countless versions of Farosa, each one distinct yet sharing the same sinister gaze.
The entire room was suffused with a thick, almost unbreathable atmosphere.
He could barely make out the real Farosa.
Xu Yang glanced around and finally saw her collapsed on the ground, crouched like a wounded beast.
"Are you okay?" Xu Yang pulled her up.
Farosa was groggy, still savoring the sensation of a volcanic eruption.
Xu Yang... He was terrifying.
He was like the swirling corona on the sun’s surface, searing enough to turn her to ash.
She couldn’t resist; every thought of defiance rapidly transformed into an even stronger yearning.
"Give me a moment..." Farosa struggled to rise.
As soon as she stood, it was like the floodgates had opened.
"This is extraordinary..." Xu Yang was witnessing such a sight for the first time.
"Spare me your commentary." Farosa, exhausted, gazed at the photographs hanging throughout the room. She hadn’t realized so many had been taken. "...You really are an artist with the camera."
"Photos are frozen memories."
"And memories are the only way to resist time." Farosa murmured softly.
They were consumed by the tender, entwined emotional connection between them. It felt as though they each possessed a part of the other, making separation akin to carving flesh from the bone.
They sensed that they had invented a way to communicate thoughts without words—as long as they were silent together, they could understand each other’s feelings...
"What’s that?" Xu Yang suddenly noticed something new flickering on Farosa’s body, like mysterious codes of an unknown origin.
"Decoded results—fragments of the Throne of God." Farosa concealed the radiance within her soul. If her mind wavered, they would occasionally seep out in droplets.
"I remember the ’Throne’ was something you took from that god’s body." Xu Yang mused.
"Roughly five or six thousand years ago, the Ascension Machine abruptly appeared, sparking a hunt among all the Mystics. They attempted to form a covenant to share the power of the Ascension Machine." Farosa recounted.
"But the sea god Orcian chose to monopolize the Throne." Xu Yang recalled this detail.
"Correct, it stole the Ascension Machine and became the sole god, oppressing all other Mystics for millennia. They sent me to kill Orcian, wasn’t it all for the Throne?" Farosa examined her soul internally.
Altogether, there were 20 fragments of the Throne of God, and Farosa later discovered they were on her. After awakening, she had quickly distributed them.
pieces went to Yan Duo to divert attention.
piece was given to the Golden Soul as a price for its future intervention.
piece was given to the Forest Master to make it a target for other Mystics.
pieces went to Lunar Fire Mond as bargaining chips to win Mond’s support.
piece went to the Ancient King of Blood, originally meant to share the burden, but it seemed to have gained additional power through studying the fragment.
Farosa herself retained only 9 pieces.
"The Ancient Mystics only appeared after you were born..." Xu Yang pondered.
"Exactly. Without me, they wouldn’t have cared, remaining hidden deep within history, indifferent to the battles between humans and witches. To them, only the ’Ascension Machine’ held any value worth fighting for. They already had infinite lifespans, limitless wealth, and power. The only thing they lacked was the boundless wisdom and the path to Ascension recorded by the Ascension Machine." Farosa sighed.
"What use is it now that it’s fragmented?" Xu Yang recalled the light leaking from Farosa earlier, realizing she had been studying the fragments all along.
"It’s still the residue of a broken Ascension Machine. As long as I study them closely and investigate the flow of energy, I can guide my Divine Power more effectively. We both understand the Ascension Machine unquestionably originated from a civilization far beyond our own." Farosa demonstrated her Divine Power before Xu Yang.
Among the stars, witches, and the sea, incompatible forces surged from Farosa.
They intertwined like a mathematical formula displayed before them, layered and exceeding their original power.
By continuously studying the fragments of the Throne, Farosa’s strength steadily increased.
"The original purpose of the Ascension Machine was to strengthen someone overnight; thus, you too can grow stronger by deciphering its fragments." Xu Yang speculated.
"Exactly. Just as you can download skill archives to acquire knowledge, the Ascension Machine itself is a learning tool. I must master the fragments of the Throne in my possession. Sharing more would only make them... more dangerous. Just imagine what Dilnai would become if she obtained the Ascension Machine. A single fragment would be enough to advance her power exponentially." Farosa said vigilantly.
Thankfully, there was Old Mond as an ally. Even the strongest Mystics didn’t dare launch a direct assault on Farosa; such an action would escalate into a battle between Earth and Moon, potentially destroying entire ecosystems. Xu Yang reflected inwardly. Mond’s intentions weren’t to ascend but to maintain stability.
Mond had shared a philosophy with Xu Yang long ago—no one deserved godhood.
To live in a world without gods was the best arrangement.
"Then, let’s figure out who the fourth sacrifice for the Godslayer Weapon is." Farosa gradually disappeared into the room.
