Chapter 825: Chapter 678: Rat Extermination_2

In the afternoon, the corpses of about a hundred Ratmen had been dragged to another larger open space for storage. The local community had to discuss how to dispose of them, whether to burn or sell them.

The most important were the three captured Ratmen, who were stuffed into indestructible alloy cages, placed near the pile of their own kind’s corpses, displayed as a sort of spoils of war.

Every minute, countless people flocked to the square just to take pictures of the living Ratmen, to keep as a treasured memory for life.

They curled up, squatted down in the cages, covered themselves, fearing everything, trembling and uneasy.

Onlookers crowded around, bustling and lively.

...

On the other side, Mizuiro Yoshioka led several newly recruited Witches to the Witch Division for work, and midway received a message from Tsuchigumo.

"Mizuiro; I am going with the Bureau of Secrets to rescue Xu Cheng and her animal friends. The Bureau of Secrets has entrusted me to convey a secret message to you, every word of which is true: There are traitors within the Nestor Research Department who are colluding with external forces, the recently troublesome ’Ratmen’ did not kill the seven people at Haruto Pool Shop, those seven actually died from incorrect postage, yet the N-003 Laboratory has purchased their bodies, harvested their organs, and traded them overseas, a forbidden act. This matter is of great consequence, and the inside and outside agents of the Bureau of Secrets had to fight desperately to uncover such information, please ensure it remains a secret, and only with the collaboration of the Bureau of Secrets and the Witch Division can we hope to root out the traitor. See the attachment for the verification key."

Mizuiro Yoshioka’s footsteps halted on the corridor, her dignified face shadowed by a cloud. This was a severe allegation, and if every word was true, it would cause an upheaval within the company.

The three novice Witches behind her, thinking that Mizuiro Yoshioka had doubts about admitting them, couldn’t help but inquire, "Excuse us... Deputy Chief? Have we done something wrong?"

The three Witches were extremely nervous, afraid of missing the great opportunity to join Nestor Corporation.

"No, it’s nothing to do with you," Mizuiro Yoshioka sighed, leading them to the Witch Division office, ready to proceed with their formal entry into the records.

At the door of the office, she pressed her fingerprint at the punch-in register, and the position marked "Witch Division Vice Chief" on the nearby rank form immediately lit up a green light.

Then, Mizuiro Yoshioka uttered a puzzled sound, "Eh?"

Why...

Why is the "Chief of the Witch Division" also lit up?

Mizuiro Yoshioka stopped at the door, the three Witches behind her were utterly confused. They had just passed the Council’s review, were just one step away from entering, and as long as they went in to complete the file entry, they could proudly join Nestor Corporation.

Their gazes fell on Mizuiro Yoshioka, urging her silently.

Mizuiro Yoshioka swallowed spit as if under torture.

She shakily waved her hand, and the glass door of the office slid open automatically.

The Witch Division’s office was spacious. Next to Mizuiro Yoshioka’s small workstation was an extremely luxurious and opulent giant workstation, with all devices and terminals fully equipped on a large desk, and metal filing cabinets and custom bookshelves of the same color tone placed against the wall.

Today was the first time Mizuiro Yoshioka saw all those machines turned on, the first time she saw the dust covers of the bookshelves drawn, the first time she saw someone at the seat.

A perfect Witch sat calmly on the high-backed leather chair. She had a beautiful face, gentle eyes, wore a black suit, a gold-striped tie, elbows resting on the table, one hand supporting her exquisite cheek.

When her innocent gaze fell on the four people at the entrance, Mizuiro Yoshioka’s hair stood on end.

"La... Lady Farosa..." Mizuiro Yoshioka dared not move an inch.

Lady Farosa gave Mizuiro Yoshioka a faint smile, then her gaze fell on the three Witches behind her.

"Who are they?" asked Lady Farosa with a pleasant voice.

These three Witches heard such a sweet voice for the first time in their lives, and also saw such a noble Witch that commanded their admiration for the first time, recognizing her as the highest official of the Witch Division. They stepped past the dumbstruck Mizuiro Yoshioka and greeted Farosa.

"My apologies! My name is Yagi Yuriya, a Lower-rank Witch, with the ability to transfer injuries I sustain onto others!"

"Greetings to the Chief! I am Motohara Risa, and my Magic Power allows me to move objects at a distance to a certain extent—though right now it’s only two to three meters, I will definitely grow! I hope to learn a lot in the Witch Division!"

"Ah! That! My name is Reina, and I can temporarily make one of my fingers disappear..."

The Witches humbly spoke about themselves to Farosa.

"They are the first batch of academy graduates, they were already quite old when they enrolled and hoped to find work as soon as possible." Mizuiro Yoshioka added.

Farosa nodded. She called them forward and conversed briefly with them.

The three newly-appointed Witches were at times drawn to Farosa’s tenderness and enthusiasm, and at times frightened by the subtle changes in her expression.

Mizuiro Yoshioka sat at her own workstation, entered their profiles, and then dismissed them.

"You seem very surprised by my arrival." Farosa interlaced her fingers and rested her lovely chin atop them, turning her head slightly towards Mizuiro Yoshioka.

"I... I never expected you to come, I thought you wouldn’t personally visit the Witch Division," Mizuiro Yoshioka said with a wry smile.

"You think you know me well?"

That one sentence from Farosa nearly scared the soul out of Mizuiro Yoshioka, who was complaining non-stop.

She secretly blamed the three Witches for coming to the company today of all days, causing her the misfortune of facing Farosa directly.

"The most honorable Lady Farosa, I have received some information over here..." Mizuiro Yoshioka forwarded the information Tsuchigumo gave her to Farosa, hoping to shift Farosa’s curiosity onto the Ratman, the mole, and the Bureau of Secrets.

After reading the message, Farosa looked at Mizuiro Yoshioka with a kind gaze.

"Just as well, I need a gift to go to Jialong Slope," Farosa said.

"Going to Jialong Slope? You..."

"Previously, due to some minor misunderstandings, he left me, leaving me alone in a beautiful dream. After the dream awakens, he didn’t see my tears, it was a mistake, and I need to rectify that," said Farosa.

"You deserve everything in this world, this is not flattery but a genuine acknowledgment from the heart," Mizuiro Yoshioka said.

"Then let’s go," Farosa stood up, taking a black coat from the coat rack.

Seeing this, Mizuiro Yoshioka quickly snapped a picture of the coat in secret and requested the clothing synthesis workshop in Shangjing to deliver a duplicate to a specified location within 30 minutes; she needed to wear the same uniform as Lady Farosa.

"The Bureau of Secrets seems to have many capable operatives," Farosa walked outside, "Do we have them in the Witch Division?"

"Our Witch Division is brimming with talent, far surpassing the humble Bureau of Secrets," said Mizuiro Yoshioka.

"Then let these Witches take action, indeed these matters require Witches to resolve. After all, all of this is still related to Witches," Farosa said in a subdued tone.

Perhaps it was an illusion, but Mizuiro Yoshioka felt that when Farosa spoke, the air in the entire corridor seemed to tremble slightly, forming countless tiny spirals of wind.
