Chapter 797: Chapter 659: Buying Gifts
The third type of operators are worshippers of the ocean, most of whom live on tropical islands and coastal areas, often feeling the ocean’s call in their dreams. Those with a sensitive nature are more likely to experience these bewildering dreams, which they record in their poetry and paintings as something strange.
Many people dreamt in their early life of distorted tentacles, dense barnacles, damp halls, reliefs in the shapes of fish and frogs, and ancient cities overgrown with seaweed. These visions led them to become mysterious individuals, eagerly hoping to find aquatic traces on their bodies and ultimately return to the sea to fade into eternity alongside Ancient Gods.
After a specific point between the years 146 and 150, the content of their dreams changed, turning into Heavenly Guardian Pavilions, cherry blossom trees, shopping streets, firework festivals, and inflatable airships emblazoned with anime characters, plus beauties wearing maid outfits and cat ears in cafés.
This signified that the presence of the New Sea God had replaced the wet and soggy Ancient God.
Although they felt a bit strange, they still followed the callings in the dark to head for the Northern Archipelago, waiting for the summons of the New Oceanic God in this high-tech city.
Once the Bureau of Secrets was established, Farosa simply used this place to set up her Oceanic Cult, absorbing some of the energy from mundane worshippers to nourish the Ocean Divine Power, while also rescuing the injured Clares the Second.
With a slight influence from Farosa, these sensitive fanatics became deluded, altering their stance and deciding to join the Bureau of Secrets, dedicating themselves to this division wholeheartedly.
The ocean is a branch of Farosa’s power, and if worshipped from this aspect, followers would gradually gain powers related to the ocean and storms, becoming extremely adept in water, capable of summoning schools of fish or changing the weather, all the while becoming greedy, sneaky, and driven by high desires.
Thus, after a full round, A40 came to understand just how complex the members of the Bureau of Secrets were.
In such a light, the Bureau of Secrets was indeed necessary.
Rather than letting these mysticism enthusiasts run amok, casting magic formulas and conducting unclean rituals, it was better to pull them in for unified management, allowing the mysterious knowledge they acquired to be put to good use.
Under the management of the Bureau of Secrets, A40 felt they worked just like ordinary company employees, only with a lot more talents.
Yan Duo’s followers glowed faintly, admirers of the White Dragon bore scales, and infatuates of the New Sea God grew gills on their cheeks. A40, being a Synthetic Human, didn’t seem out of place among them.
They shared heating, anime news, and food, talking about the many actions of the Bureau of Secrets.
"Another 10-meter Frost Giant has popped up on the outskirts of Yibei City."
"The Laser Three Eyed Gun is much more effective than spells."
"Do you recognize this relic? Could it be the private collection of some ancient Mystic?"
"If I cut off my arm that’s grown scales and replace it with a prosthetic limb, would that counterbalance the negative effects I’ve suffered from studying mysticism?"
"Nowadays, driving tests are all online; it’s gotten to the point where I’m afraid to fly out on a Shuttle Machine."
"I’ll retire once I’ve saved up 500,000 and spend the rest of my days in ’Elysium Paraiso.’"
"Shall we carpool to the Nestor Headquarters for dinner tonight? Do they consider the Bureau of Secrets as one of their own?"
A40 felt that he could get along with these oddballs and eccentrics, many of whom were confident in their strange powers and preferred to be lone wolves.
When it was time to collect equipment from the supply station, A40 received a full set of gear sufficient to support his role as an operator for the Bureau of Secrets.
The contents included a chip card for identification in case of demise, cultural T-shirts with the Bureau of Secrets logo, synthetic fiber leather armor, a custom Synthetic Human helmet, an armed belt, a selected alloy katana, and a Nestor Corporation 10mm handgun "Peach Parrot", along with two boxes of ammunition and four energy batteries.
"I’m invincible now." A40 donned his new equipment.
"The task list is refreshed anytime, available for pickup at any time, and urgent tasks would call for personnel to be mobilized." The supply station staff informed A40.
"Give me the money first, I want to go home." A40 said.
The staff provided A40 with a cash card, containing 100,000 funds for settling in, paid at the highest rate.
A40 left the Bureau of Secrets with the money and went round the boutiques, bag shops, and perfume stores in the Shangjing Bay Commercial Center.
Synthetic Human attendants ignored A40 as if it weren’t a real customer, forcing A40 to request human services.
Tucked in a warm coat, an attentive salesperson approached, providing goods according to A40’s needs, although she didn’t quite understand where a Synthetic Human got the funds from, as most Synthetic Humans only need charging, not currency.
Soon, the salesperson’s demeanor turned cheerful. In such shops, men shop decisively, women are picky, but Synthetic Humans are the most straightforward, quickly refreshing the monthly performance of the salesperson as if their selection of goods was as simple and direct as a mathematical calculation.
"This one, this one, this one... wrap them all up." A40 was generous with his spending.
Dionysus Brand Type I Perfume (6700), Lex Crossbody Bag (4999), Tran Gordan Cashmere Overcoat (12000), Iris Jewelry "Vermilion Dream" Diamond-inlaid Rose Gold Necklace (25000). A40 checked the invoice, the lights in his eyes unblinking, and quickly memorized it.
All the goods were packed in expensive gift boxes, A40 declined the thoughtful delivery service and ignored their requests regarding membership registration. He took a taxi outside and went through the cold air, returning to Nestor Headquarters.
In a floor close to the Witch Division, A40 and Huang Feng had a large private suite complete with a bathroom, living room, bedroom, bath, and gym.
