Chapter 782: Chapter 649: Frost Core
On the other side of the Technology Museum, a display case housed several black weapons, inscribed with a notation that they were made from new alloys smelted by the Ancients from interstellar ores.
Farosa took out a Black Long Spear from among them and casually infused Magic Power into it. The tip quickly burst forth with a dazzling blood-red magic blade, its adaptability to Magic Power clearly exceeding that of many existing metals.
"Wow, strong and powerful," Farosa placed the exceptionally powerful spear against her abdomen.
"Please stop," Lila hastily shifted her view.
Lila observed the other black weapons in the display case. With the integration of future weapons technology, the Ancients had also crafted fearsome weapons like chainsaw swords, with conspicuous chains carved around the massive blade that could rotate at high speed when the handle was pressed, cutting foes and armor to shreds and surpassing the primitive versions on the current human market. If Battle Witch and paratrooper assault teams had such weaponry when they jumped into enemy lines, the effect would be terrifying.
Next to the chainsaw sword was a black metal Power Hammer, with counter-thrust engines installed at both ends. As it swung, one of the engines would adaptively start, making the smashing force extremely terrifying, easily capable of smashing heavy equipment.
A smaller weapon was the Power Gauntlets, inlaid with metal knuckles or claws. The Ancients were larger in stature than humans, and thus these rocket-boosted punches and claws were absolutely powerful.
Displayed separately in the case and locked away was an intelligent combat axe. According to the performance parameters, this axe could automatically detect the nearest enemy and slash at them; even if it could not hit its target, the blade would actively transform to pierce the opponent, allowing even poorly skilled recruits to break through encirclements.
"After studying these weapons technologies, we can develop our own future weapons," Lila marked this display case as a piece of cultural technology to be analyzed.
"Putting technology aside for now, these black weapons were all pre-tuned by the Ancients. They are natural conduits for Magic Power and come with very complete built-in Magic Circuits, much more refined than what we have laboriously hand-carved. That’s the key," Farosa wielded the Black Long Spear in her hand.
"What is this black metal called?" Lila noticed that all of the Ancients’ weapons were made from this dark material.
’Night Silver,’ ’Mrtsg Hroevi,’" Farosa placed the Black Long Spear back into the display case; due to being an exhibit, its tip was worn down.
This material, black as night and fine as silver, outperformed alloy steel. Most importantly, it was highly suitable for carving Magic Circuits, making it the ideal weapon for the Witch to use.
"I hope we can find a way to smelt Night Silver in the ruins of this civilization. However, it’s quite strange that the Ancients, who hated the Witch, developed a weapon like Night Silver for themselves. These weapons weren’t made for the Witch but for ordinary Ancient soldiers; so, where did they get the source of Magic Power from?" Lila’s drone followed behind Farosa.
"The Ancients racked up a bloody debt. They likely had the technology to extract Magic Power from the Witch," Farosa sneered.
With this thought, Farosa handed over the investigation of the Technology Museum to the subsequent team and continued to pursue the female Ancient refugees deep in the mountains. She was determined to capture the last living person of the Ancient culture and wring out the remnants of its value.
The path of the Ancient woman’s retreat was an ancient aqueduct atop a sheer cliff, leading her to a deeper location—the giant hydro hub that powered the Ancient civilization. As Farosa tracked on, Lila’s drone began to sound an alarm.
"It’s too cold," Lila said.
"It does seem a bit chilly," Farosa felt the air coming in.
"Minus 120 degrees Celsius here and you only feel a bit chilly?" Lila’s drone measured the temperature, the extreme cold affecting the durability of the machine.
"Die here then," Farosa moved forward.
"Wait! When is the master coming back?" Lila inquired.
"He must still be there; because my memory is fragmented, I can’t even clearly remember my dear sister’s matter. If he wanted to come back, he would’ve done so, even at the cost of his life... If he hasn’t returned, it implies he might still be there, doing what he loves," Farosa frowned.
Lila temporarily accepted this explanation.
"You must take my drone with you," Lila said, "You will definitely need me."
"Annoying," Farosa turned around and stuffed Lila’s drone into her Rainbow Cloak for warmth, then leaped forward.
"It’s over there." Lila could use the thermal imaging device to track temperature changes and thus guide Farosa deeper into the source of the cold.
Passing through the ancient aqueduct, they quickly arrived at the top of a large dam, which spanned across the cliffs and served as a bridge. At the center was a cliff with a great drop, a vast waterfall that had once cascaded from the top now completely frozen into a frosted marvel. It seemed as if an entire lake had poured down and been instantaneously solidified, with time and flowing water both encased within, forming a pale, icy precipice, reflecting their figures.
Farosa could imagine the scene when the temperature warmed, and the water surged: the giant waterfall would roar and surge, washing through the turbines at the base of the dam, and in turn, powering the generators to supply inexhaustible electricity to the whole of Hill A.
"All this water..." Farosa looked up to see countless brass pipes embedded in the rock overhead. Numerous rivers and lakes around Yibei City were guided by the ancient hydraulic structures built by the Ancients, becoming the collected hydro resources of Hill A.
