Chapter 756: Chapter 629 Endless Wealth
Farosa’s expression remained unchanged, contemplative.
"This ancient human..." Kirino Reisei looked toward the ancient human.
Even though he bore the entire weight of Xisheng Shrine, was pierced through by three black long spears, bound by two chains hanging, and had been in the depths of the earth without food or drink for over 120 years, this ancient human was still alive!
Farosa observed closely.
"We are not familiar with these materials; they are some sort of stronger and more mysterious metal, a supernatural material, probably the smelting technology of the ancient humans used in turn to suppress this particular one," she said, looking at the chains and the black long spears.
"Do all ancient humans have such strong vitality? I’ve heard that the strongest of the ancient humans... the reborn Idith," Kirino Reisei said curiously.
When Reborn Idith was mentioned, the ancient human bound at the bottom of Xisheng tower lifted his head and let out a hoarse voice.
"Rh sv zorev?" the ancient human spoke in secret script.
"He’s asking ’Is Idith still alive?’" said Kirino Reisei, who was proficient in secret script.
"I can understand now; I’ve already devoured the Great River Goddess’s memories, secret scripts are no longer a problem for me," Farosa nodded.
"..." Kirino Reisei felt somewhat insignificant, realizing that Farosa’s weaknesses were becoming increasingly scarce.
Farosa began to converse adeptly with the ancient human in front of her.
"Bicon!"
She started by cursing, then she insulted Idith, the ancient human civilization, and the bound ancient human in front of her.
After hearing Farosa’s words, the ancient human likewise didn’t hold back, cursing quietly at Farosa before falling silent, his head hanging low.
Kirino Reisei scratched his head and said nothing.
"It seems this guy won’t answer us anymore," Farosa said, crossing her arms.
"He seems to be a very powerful one among the ancient humans; I can hardly believe every ancient human is as immortal as he is," Kirino Reisei changed the subject.
"I don’t know; the Great River Goddess has hidden all her memories related to the ancient humans. It seems the ancient humans once imprisoned the Great River Goddess or... did something even stranger. I don’t understand," Farosa looked towards the gold runes surrounding them.
"This servant thinks, if we could rebind the power of this Fortune Tower to Nestor Corporation, wouldn’t Nestor Corporation then dominate the world?" Kirino Reisei speculated.
Farosa studied the ancient human prisoner for a moment.
"Where did he come from?" Farosa pondered. "How did they find such an ancient human to serve as a Pillar of Humanity in the Northern Archipelago, a solitary island amidst the sea? It’s been ten thousand years since the era of ancient humans; where could there still be such a vivid high-ranking ancient human, even if it’s Reborn Idith, he must have been sealed for a long time."
Farosa was still pondering when Lila sent a message summoning her away.
"What are you doing so deep underground?" Lila asked knowingly.
"Just looking around," Farosa replied mysteriously.
"Time to come back."
"You don’t have the right to command me."
"Xu Yang is trapped in Yibei City," Lila said.
"Wait," Farosa turned off the communicator and hurriedly walked out.
Kirino Reisei followed Farosa, closing the black door behind them, leaving the ancient human prisoner and the fortune runes inside the secret room, everything as before.
"This servant will take her leave for now," Kirino Reisei bid farewell to Farosa.
"Where is Wei Shiyue now?" Farosa asked at last.
"Disliking the extreme cold winds, she has gone to a more southern region, possibly on some tropical island," Kirino Reisei said slowly.
Farosa nodded and didn’t pursue further, parting ways with Kirino Reisei.
She returned to the battle command room, where Miyazato Kazama was also present.
Xu Yang and his companions were stranded at the Tsukubetsu Mine in the outskirts of Yibei City, and the retreated Shuttle Machines brought back the news to the Shangjing Headquarters.
The intelligence on the New Frost Giants had been uploaded to the archive for revising perceptions, but the urgent matter was deciding the plan of action, especially after Xu Yang personally sent back coordinates, Lila had to devise the battle strategy personally, to eradicate the monsters and reclaim Yibei City.
The battle command room was spacious, with a three-dimensional imaging of a Frost Giant floating above the black standing table in the center, its bulky stature and hideous appearance fully displayed.
Lila sat at the table while Miyazato Kazama stood on the other side with a handheld terminal, responsible for organizing technical intelligence and providing scientific weapons.
"We are running model tests to see what kind of weaponry can cause sufficient damage to the Frost Giants," Miyazato Kazama executed the program.
From the test items, physical bullets, grenades, and heavy missile heads with explosives could weaken the mass of the Frost Giants, but the amount of ammunition needed for annihilation was quite high.
Conventional flame weapons, incendiary bombs, and napalm would be extinguished in the severe cold, and the Frost Giants showed a non-biological characteristic; they themselves were enveloped in solid ice, making them difficult to ignite.
Laser weapons and energy weapons would rapidly decay and refract in the complex blizzard conditions, requiring overload operation to achieve greater firing power if they were to inflict sufficient damage.
"We are facing an exceptionally strong supernatural creature; in this severe cold, they are much stronger than under normal conditions," Miyazato Kazama warned.
"Magic blades can cut through their shells and reach the Frost Essence within. Shellfire can lower their defensive ability, damaging their physical mass. This combination is most effective," Farosa said.
"We can dispatch about 200 Battle Witches." Lila counted the combat troops; most of them were Lower-rank Witches, while the High-Ranking Witches served as the squad leaders.
"Let Pan Ruiyi and Takahashi Kyoko break the deadlock first, take Xu Yang to fix the network sites in Yibei City, and then launch a saturation strike," Farosa said in a succinct and forceful tone.
Lila had not expected Farosa to arrange the plan. It seemed that Farosa had indeed become smarter, casually overseeing the whole situation and making deployments, which saved Lila a lot of trouble.
"But what about you?" Lila asked. "We need you to go to Yibei City in person."
"Me?" Farosa chuckled.
She stretched out her hand to draw a magic formula in the air and then took out her Rainbow Cloak and Divine Sword Star Controller from the void.
When the cloak was donned, the entire command room was instantly illuminated by the multicolored Phantom Light, and its overwhelming presence surged, forcing Miyazato Kazama to take a few steps back. Farosa flipped her hand, holding the Star Controller in midair, its long blade as dark as the deep-space backdrop.
"I am quite busy—It depends if there’s an opponent truly worth my effort to crush," her fingers traced along the Star Controller.
It must have been an illusion, but Miyazato Kazama felt as if she could hear the secret sounds of stars bursting millions of light-years away, of different nebulas colliding. She dared not let her gaze shift toward the Star Controller. Just as the god of severe winter brought the impact of icy chill, Farosa now imposed the influence of the stars, and Miyazato Kazama was not ready to bear the wisdom of the cosmos.
"With such a grand display, we’re bound to encounter them," Lila agreed.
...
On the other side, Xu Yang and Little Fool had also awakened. Xu Yang immediately checked the mine to see if the entrance was still blocked, with grim results. Previously, it was just the Frost Giants constantly pressing their faces against the entrance, but now a snowstorm had packed it completely, blocking all light and bringing endless chill.
"Wow..."
"It’s completely clogged."
"If this continues..." the miners shivered.
"Let me check the communications." Xu Yang ran back to the area where he could previously see cracks, searching for signals. Discovering that Nestor Corporation had already arranged an aerial clearance operation for the area, he reassured the crew.
The miners were dubious, but with the mine passage blocked, they could only stick to the usual work schedule.
"Where do we go next?" Little Fool followed behind Xu Yang.
"Down to the very bottom, to see where those Scaled Monsters come from." Xu Yang pointed toward the depths of the ancient mine; they had already explored the top of the mine yesterday, and now it was time to head to the very bottom.
Little Fool enjoyed adventuring with her father. She closely followed Xu Yang, with Snowball, her small body, clearing the path ahead, using a searchlight to illuminate the area in front to prevent them from falling off a cliff.
Xu Yang felt something wrong underfoot and squatted down to inspect the ground.
"Look." Xu Yang brushed away the dust on the ground.
Little Fool peered closely and saw that the path before them was no longer a rugged rock surface but a meticulously paved stone corridor, carefully constructed by someone.
She reached out to the sides, quickly coming into contact with the vertically cut stone walls, each brick fitting tightly and joined closely together.
"This isn’t a cave," Little Fool said softly.
"Someone lived here before us. They built a strange facility inside the mountain," Xu Yang walked deeper into the stone path.
Snowball, who was leading the way upfront, suddenly came to a sharp halt, arching its back at something in the path ahead. Realizing that Snowball had detected a threat, Xu Yang slowed his pace. The Wolf Girl stayed behind to guard their return path.
"Woof..." Snowball let out a hoarse bark. Xu Yang stepped past Snowball and found a Scaled Monster lying motionless on the ground, exactly like the creatures they had fought the day before. However, this one lay flattened against the ground, showing no intention of movement.
Using the life detector on his armor, Xu Yang scanned the Scaled Monster. Since he had no detailed data, he could only see the most basic vital signs, indicating that it was in a deep sleep.
He signaled Little Fool to be silent, and then they tiptoed deeper into the corridor, looking around to see more and more similar Scaled Monsters lying in the corridors and smaller ear-passages, and chambers—at least a few dozen to a hundred, a whole small group of them.
Xu Yang reached the end of the corridor, which connected to a broad stone door. He figured that either moving or blowing up the stone door would wake all the Scaled Monsters in the place. He felt it would be more valuable to capture all of them alive, as these cold-blood creatures must have fallen into hibernation due to the low temperatures. Such biological materials were extremely precious.
He brought Little Fool to the wall and asked her to listen carefully.
After a while, she followed Xu Yang back out of the corridor to the dark, freezing cliffs outside.
"What did you hear?" Xu Yang asked.
"Dripping water, inside the wall," Little Fool nodded vigorously.
"Why would there be dripping water inside the wall?"
"Pipes... the pipes are inside the wall," Little Fool pondered.
"In such cold weather, why isn’t the water frozen but still dripping?"
"A heat source," Little Fool mulled over it.
"And if it weren’t for this weather, what would these pipes be used for?"
"Some project requiring a lot of water," Little Fool’s imagination began to run wild.
"Let’s go." Seeing that Little Fool was catching on, Xu Yang walked outside. Then, they turned their gaze outward as deafening bomb blasts sounded in succession.
"Airplane bombs?" Little Fool wondered.
Xu Yang’s focus wasn’t outside; he abruptly turned back toward the long corridor, just in time to see the Scaled Monsters in the corridor awakening from the vibrations.
He quickly grabbed his gun.
