Chapter 715: Chapter 597: Formless_2
"How could there be so many Invisible Imperial Guards?" the officer frowned.
"Wait." 101 laid down the gravely injured and silent 102.
Immediately after, 101 teleported into Kanako’s room, glaring at Huang Feng.
"It’s you." Huang Feng saw 101 appear in the room.
"Take her to this place, and don’t be angry," Kanako said.
She listened to the sound of the hotel below being ravaged. The rumbling was incessant even within the high-floor room. A major conflict was usually marked by the joint hands of three Invisible Imperial Guards, but ten in one go... No company could dare to claim they could eliminate them at a low cost, not even the Law of Slaughter could harm these non-corporeal, lifeless flame monsters.
"What about you?" 101 frowned at Kanako. "The Invisible Imperial Guard will tear down the entire building."
"I’ll handle it," Kanako said calmly.
Huang Feng packed the smart chip from the table into a small case and put it back in her bag.
grabbed her arm and leaped away.
The next second, Huang Feng found herself in a filthy recycling station, located in some stinking store at the northeast corner.
The night was deep, a dim yellow light flickered on and off.
After throwing Huang Feng there, 101 left and jumped back into the hotel.
Huang Feng pinched the small case in the bag and looked around.
The recycling station 101 brought her to was very narrow and inconspicuous; the door was tightly closed, blocked with chains and opaque barriers. It seemed this place was not safe at night; rainwater continuously seeped in from the gaps below.
Huang Feng coughed violently in the filthy air, alarming the shop owner inside.
A fat, dirty man pushed open the door and walked out slowly.
Upon seeing Huang Feng, his expression changed slightly; he was wearing a grubby pullover stained with filth.
Huang Feng felt extreme disgust, almost a physical repulsion.
"Don’t touch me." Huang Feng picked up a knife from the counter and waved it violently at the man.
"Hey, hey," the man let out an ugly, hoarse laugh. "They’ve handed you over to me. Seems like they’re really out of options. The signals here are quite complex... No one can be caught."
"What do you intend to do to me?" Huang Feng frowned deeply.
"It depends on whether you’re cooperative or not... From now on, you do what I say," the sleazy man stood in the shadow of the door frame.
Huang Feng felt a strong sense of nausea. Nestor Corporation had sold her to an extremely ugly old man!
She lunged at the man with the knife; he couldn’t dodge in time and was cut.
"Ow!" the man screamed in pain, his figure quickly shrinking inward, features shifting instantly, transforming into a girl with black long hair and a round chin.
"Who are you!" Huang Feng was taken aback.
"I’m Du Qianqian..." She quickly administered a healing injection to herself from her pocket, grateful that it was just a small knife and the wound wasn’t deep.
"Shapeshifter," Huang Feng vaguely remembered this witch.
"Yes, yes..." She inhaled sharply, "Now tell me about your profound love story, let’s see if I can learn something from it."
"I need to sleep first." Huang Feng threw the knife onto the counter.
Watching the wound stabilize before her eyes, Du Qianqian’s breathing also eased.
"It’s not just a simple sleep. I’ve stashed some things here in a concealed way... All the neighbors are freaks, and it’s surrounded by poor devils on all sides; nobody can find this place," Du Qianqian led Huang Feng to the inner room where there was a huge, silver-white, coffin-like machine, like some eternal monument or a symbol of the technological world, connected to an independent, oversized battery, with a narrow bed beside it.
"Cryogenic sleep pod?" Huang Feng recognized it.
"Before your condition worsens, we must completely seal off your physiological conditions," she said.
"You live in a place like this?" Huang Feng frowned, smelling the stench.
"I’ve always lived in places like this since I was little," Du Qianqian sat on the small bed. "No money, no clean food and water, no trustworthy neighbors, no one to help."
"Now you’re reminiscing the hard times?" Huang Feng sat on the cold cryogenic sleep pod.
"I’m waiting." Du Qianqian looked at her hands. "This waiting is bitter, like a snake seeking to shed its skin, like the maple leaf seeking autumn."
"I don’t understand."
"... You’ll just have to accept our arrangements for now. Elsewhere, the pursuers are still on the prowl," Du Qianqian prepared to put Huang Feng on ice.
Huang Feng remained silent.
Elsewhere, in the security department, 101 licked the Amber Honey for 102.
licked it vigorously. The wound on her shoulder, scorched by Blackfire, slowly began to heal, the unsightly flesh regenerating.
"If it still hurts, lick it again," 101 said with deep concern.
"It’s okay, this can still be used twice more. Let’s save it for when it’s necessary," 102 said with a smile, waving her hand nonchalantly as she sat on the medical bed.
Meanwhile, Kanako had prepared her travel gear, ready to go out to negotiate with the 10 soldiers of the Invisible Imperial Guard. Two legionnaires prepared to accompany her.
"It’s dangerous out there," 102 turned toward Kanako. "10 of the Invisible Imperial Guard! That’s too terrifying!"
"It’s alright," Kanako responded with composure.
She headed outside, walking into the heavy rain. The Invisible Imperial Guardsmen all raised their weapons, aiming at Kanako.
Feeling the murderous intent in the air, Kanako remained fearless.
"The ceasefire has just been signed; surely you don’t wish to start the war again," her voice, powerful and penetrating, spread through the rain.
"Hand over Huang Feng... You were the first to break the agreement..." an Invisible Imperial Guardsman said in a hoarse voice.
Its voice itself was like flames smoldering, unlike that of regular people.
"We also understand the weight of the peace treaty, so we treated Huang Feng according to the standards of hotel staff before sending her away. She’s not in the hotel. Even if you tear this place down, it’s meaningless, as you must know that her signal is no longer here," Kanako replied calmly.
"101... 102... give them back to us."
"They aren’t here either," Kanako insisted.
The 10 members of the Invisible Imperial Guard confronted Kanako like 10 fierce ghosts.
She didn’t move an inch, her legs straight, anchoring herself to the ground, imagining bullets whizzing by her sides and over her head. The downpour drenched her completely.
Then, one by one, the Invisible Imperial Guardsmen retreated.
Vanishing into the shadows of the rainy night.
Kanako’s heart, suspended in fear, finally settled. When had she acquired such pure courage? Even she could not pinpoint the moment. Yet now, without evasion or fear, she felt she had truly become The Big Shot who others could rely on.
She turned her head to look.
In the recent skirmish, the hotel’s entrance had been blasted to shreds, its glass doors reduced to grains on the floor, and the furniture inside completely torn apart, with the far walls and columns riddled with black bullet holes. The hotel in such a state was unfit for guests.
Soaked by the rain, she returned to the lobby.
Courage prevented her from collapsing. Other security staff rushed over, a waiter meticulously dried Kanako’s hair with an absorbent cloth.
"Blood!" 102 exclaimed.
"It’s nothing, not from the recent injury," Kanako said, feeling the sting on her face, still from the previous shot near the window. Who could that have been fired by?
Seeing the bloodstain on Kanako’s face, others thought she had just been wounded; they turned as pale as death, and the hotel managers were scared out of their wits.
"I need to become stronger!" 102 said eagerly.
"Although I know nothing of the Witch’s Power, I understand that Blackfire cannot be overcome by physical means. Everyone go prepare dinner, the hotel will need some time before it can reopen," Kanako walked forward, sitting on the tattered lobby sofa.
"Yes!" The other staff hurried off to handle the food.
looked in the direction where the Invisible Imperial Guard had disappeared. They couldn’t catch her, but they were still troublesome.
With each creation of a Black Fire Witch came the birth of dozens of Imperial Guards, and by now their numbers should exceed 200.
"Only by unlocking the secret of Blackfire do we stand a chance," 101 said softly.
"Perhaps in the painting at tomorrow’s auction, the illusions of peacocks represent memories and mystical knowledge," Kanako mused. "They might help us unlock the answers."
couldn’t help but go over to wipe the blood from Kanako’s face.
"Are you sure it wasn’t from the shot just now?" 102 asked.
"Don’t worry too much. There is always a price to pay when getting things done; sometimes I can be part of that cost, which is natural. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have the right to order you around," Kanako crossed one leg over the other. "Now that we have a direction, we can ask the painting: how to extinguish the black flames... then we won’t have to be afraid anymore."
"Yes!"
It was in this moment that 101 and 102 truly believed in Kojima Kanako.
