Chapter 711: Chapter 595 Charging_2
She activated the Cyclone Sword and stabbed through the door, just as the two men were threatening the residents. With a loud shout, she ordered them to stop, then stepped forward, sword in hand, approaching them.
"Get lost!" Lu Jing barked angrily.
The expressions of the two robbers were quite bizarre. They were dressed in shabby clothing, with ugly beards, their eyes like those of wild, untamed animals.
Intimidated by Lu Jing’s weapon, they retreated step by step towards the outside.
Rinne watched from a distance, alert to prevent them from attacking anyone. After driving the two men away, Lu Jing saw a woman standing in the rental unit, frightened stiff.
"It’s over," she comforted, then turned to look at the bare room, "What were they trying to steal?"
The woman walked shakily into the room and opened an old, unpowered refrigerator. Her son with unnaturally proportioned limbs sat inside, with charging ports on his arms connected by wires to a black battery case containing two batteries, looking around with a blank gaze.
"I must have been seen when I bought the batteries this afternoon," the woman said softly, trying to stay calm.
"The door’s already broken. Others will come to rob you of your electricity. You should leave," Lu Jing said, looking around the small room. It was hard to imagine how many people lived together here, with no space to fully lie down. She felt like she was being squeezed into a small box.
"It’s easier to die in the open... At least here there are four walls," the woman muttered.
"The man?"
"He went to a place very, very far away," the woman whispered. The boy in the refrigerator looked up blankly, his gaze as ignorant as a pig’s.
"Why is the child charging too?" Lu Jing asked further.
"He’s been modified... This way he won’t starve," the woman’s eyes filled with a hint of affection.
From a distance, near the power station, there were extremely horrific screams, a succession of gunshots, and the sound of bullets hitting metal, as if someone was directly attacking the power station itself, harboring the thought that if they couldn’t charge, then neither should anyone else.
In the maze-like Northeast Corner District, there were sounds of smashing, robbery, and shouting everywhere. Lu Jing felt like life was like a spore thriving in chaos, never seeing its extinction, nor ever seeing it grow into something substantial.
Then, torrential rain began to pour down.
The howling downpour brought even more despair, drenching the entire city. The cool, fine rain fell on the heads of over a hundred thousand agitated individuals, with high body temperatures, doing nothing to diminish their aggression.
Due to the extreme harshness of the natural environment, their attitudes became even more extreme, and soon, louder explosions could be heard, with the Ground trembling slightly.
"Someone’s using bombs..." the woman murmured.
"What about tomorrow? I’m talking to you," Lu Jing said somewhat anxiously.
"Don’t worry... kind-hearted person, I can sell myself; it’s also a job. I have a plan, I too have a plan... Everyone here lives like this," the woman said, reassuring Lu Jing in return.
"No, no..." Lu Jing instinctively resisted all this, a nameless sense of fear creeping into her heart.
She wrapped her Green Clothes tightly and walked out, with Rinne and Jin Li following closely behind. The woman silently thanked Lu Jing.
Lu Jing ran out into the pouring rain. Ratman and Rinne took shelter under a small awning, which was a satellite dish someone had erected, leaving a bit of dry space underneath its rim for them to pause.
"We need to go back!" Rinne shouted, "Back to the hotel to sleep! Don’t stay here anymore!"
"But what about them?" Lu Jing gestured towards everything around her.
The next second, the lights on the surrounding streets also went out, as if the glimmer that had just lit up was just an illusion.
In this dark and stormy rain, an overwhelming sense of fear came crashing down. Lu Jing looked towards the brightly lit city center in the distance, rationality telling her that simply looking away would leave her unburdened.
If there were a tangible monster ravaging this place, Lu Jing would know how to fight it. But now, Lu Jing found no target for her sword.
Another series of gunshots rang out, and Lu Jing, shrouded in darkness, saw that outside the power station had turned into a bloodbath. The timid had fled hastily, leaving some violent gangs to start firefights, with blood spilled and flowing under the heavy rain.
In just ten minutes, hundreds of bodies were left behind, and the chaos of violence spread, as if everyone, beneath the sudden downpour, was on the verge of madness.
"... It’s time to go, modified girl and Green Clothes," Ratman said, worried for his own safety.
"Does that power station supply electricity to the entire block?" Lu Jing looked at the small station at the center of the street.
"Yes, it does," Ratman replied impatiently.
Lu Jing dashed through the curtain of rain, running quickly, and Rinne shouted out, hurrying to follow behind her.
Running to where people were fighting over the electricity, Lu Jing drew the Cyclone Sword, her face set with determination.
"Ah!"
"She’s here to kill!"
"A sword!"
"Hit her!" the people panicked, yelling and screaming, but their voices were muffled in the curtain of rain and indistinct.
"Be careful!" Lu Jing shouted.
She thrust the Cyclone Sword upward, then plunged it down into the charging station, embedding it into one of the compatible power sockets, initiating the reverse supply mode, and maxing out the output.
The entire sword instantly lit up with a strong light.
An immense surge of fission energy burst forth, boundless—
In an instant, the entire Northeast Corner District was illuminated! Streetlights blinked on in the blink of an eye, a glimmer returned to thousands of households, and the power station’s indicators also lit up green again.
