Chapter 693: Chapter 579: Before Laying Eggs

Northern Archipelago, Mingge Mountain.

The forest had returned to its dense state, and within the vividly red Eternal Cherry Blossom Shrine, the Sakura Witch Reisei Kirino, wearing a fox mask, swept the ground with a huge broom, cleaning the centuries-old pathway until it was spotless.

Wei Shiyue stopped at the entrance to the main hall.

"How is life here?" asked Reisei Kirino.

"Very nice. The environment here is incredibly fresh and natural, and I eat healthy foods every day. I also have plenty of time to exercise, to go to bed early and rise early... There are no more troubles of material life like worrying about the stock market or housing prices. It’s been a long time since I’ve lived like this," Wei Shiyue nodded as she spoke.

"The pressure has all disappeared like smoke and clouds?"

"Not... exactly, there’s still... my egg," mumbled Wei Shiyue.

"Go draw a lot," Reisei Kirino looked up at her, "It’s time."

"What if I draw a very bad fortune?" Wei Shiyue pondered.

"In history, the Sakura Witches also took care of the dragons of the Northern Archipelago. Back then, there weren’t just the Moonlight Dragons but also Asahi Dragons, Star Dragons, Black Dragons, among other kinds. A mother dragon lays eggs at least 10 times in her life, not all will nurture a healthy young dragon. If the fortune is bad, that egg might produce a stillborn, or an extremely unwelcome evil dragon... This is all recorded in ancient books, absolutely true," Reisei Kirino explained.

"Are the fortunes accurate?" Wei Shiyue pressed, unsure if she could trust the blessings of the Eternal Cherry Blossom Shrine.

"Otherwise why did you come here? It can reveal the answers to everything."

Wei Shiyue lowered her head, standing on the threshold. Inside her, an egg was forming, needing the infusion of vitality, or else it would become an empty shell filled with nutrients with nowhere to go.

"What about those dragons?" Wei Shiyue asked, "Where have the modern dragons gone?

"To biological laboratories and private museums. Their scales and horns, their blood and flesh, are used for... I’m sorry."

"It’s okay..." Wei Shiyue said, her head lowered as she touched her belly, "I’m mainly worried that it will also face such attacks after it grows up."

"Not necessarily. By the way, how about your fans? Do they know you came here?"

"I don’t know. I originally thought that announcing a break would make them angry. But their messages are all ’Ah, please don’t push yourself too hard, take some rest,’ ’Sob, stop releasing albums, don’t tire yourself,’ ’Take it slow, we will wait!’ ’Ah, just make sure to rest well, don’t worry about us’..."

"They love you a lot."

"But I am just an image on the screen that moves, a voice transmitted through electric signals, a few lines of text on social media. Their love is placed in the wrong object, or should I say, can they really feel love just from these things?"

"The Wei Shiyue they recognize is imagined, pieced together from impressions, and this is precisely the greatness of humans. Listen to me, just go inside," urged Reisei Kirino.

Wei Shiyue entered the main hall. She saw the bamboo tube on the table filled with many lots that had been blessed by the Sakura Witch, hence possessing power beyond ordinary fortunes.

She could tell at a glance there were 100.

Wei Shiyue suddenly regretted not asking the Sakura Witch about the probability of drawing a great fortune. What if the entire tube was filled with very bad fortunes?

But Wei Shiyue was not one to hesitate.

She stretched out her hand and pulled a bamboo stick from inside the tube.

She drew the lot with boldness but faced the result with timidity. Grasping the stick, Wei Shiyue quickly diverted her gaze, feeling as if she held a burning torch, then hurried outside and handed it to Reisei Kirino.

"I dare not look, please decipher it for me," Wei Shiyue said as she gave the stick to Reisei Kirino.

"This humble one will take a look for you..." Reisei Kirino held a large broom in one hand and took the stick with the other, carefully reading the secret script, symbols, and marks on it.

After reading the stick, Reisei Kirino’s gaze moved up to rest upon Wei Shiyue’s face, a visage of frost-white beauty, with nearly all-white long hair falling from her cheeks, the strands slightly curling. But this was far from her true appearance. She was a dragon, after all.

"What does it say?" Wei Shiyue pressed.

Reisei Kirino’s expression was inscrutable behind the fox mask. Indeed it was so, for inheriting the knowledge of the generations of witches from the Eternal Cherry Blossom Shrine, Reisei Kirino understood clearly the secrets revealed by the lot, which held a rich array of meanings. She wasn’t sure she could explain it all in just a sentence or two.

"It’s complicated," Reisei Kirino said to Wei Shiyue, "what will hatch from this dragon egg will be... the Qualified One, as you should understand."

The Qualified One, a powerful being with the opportunity to place oneself within a position of power and make it their own. Wei Shiyue was pleased, for she herself was the Qualified One, as was her father, and all the Ancient Mystics were. The Qualified One signified that the future of this child was boundless; one day, it would devour a concept of this world and join the ranks of demigods.

"The dragon within me deserves this recognition; it shall be king," Wei Shiyue chuckled lightly.

"However, the breath of the undead has deeply permeated it; its future path will be shrouded in dark clouds, and the dead will cower beneath its claws. The ocean and forests will be tainted by it, its existence a shame to the sun. You are about to give birth to a terrifying but nearly immortal being," Reisei Kirino warned.

Wei Shiyue recognized the perilous answer; she was to give birth to an undying life, a Dracolich.

Immortal by birth.

"So, my child might be the strongest dragon ever. It could surpass all its ancestors," Wei Shiyue murmured.

"It may struggle to even emerge from its own eggshell," Reisei Kirino warned.

Wei Shiyue had no doubt in her mind; she felt the egg inside her accelerating in development, for the mother had already decided to bring it into the world.

"That man, naturally strong and vigorous, his robust essence could neutralize the eternal curse of the Undead Technique. I need him; can you persuade him?" Wei Shiyue requested.

"I can persuade him. When he leaves the worldly life, as dust scattered in the wind, he will leave behind a bloodline on this land, a lineage. A blend of Moonlight, Death’s Breath, the blazing sun, and human principle. The monumental power of four pillars converging within the body of a dragon," Reisei Kirino recalled similar events chronicled in ancient texts, "...this child could alter the power structure of the Mystics, perhaps becoming the king of Mystics."

Wei Shiyue let out a long howl, anxious to witness this child’s arrival. Regardless of its gender, whether a mighty Dragon King or a delicate Dragon Empress, she yearned to see it break free from its shell.

By the time Xu Yang arrived, night had fallen, and he was invited by Reisei Kirino into a spacious chamber.

A dragon, a beautiful White Dragon, slowly crawled towards him from the end of the chamber, her body adorned with exquisite, delicate white scales, a crown of cherry blossoms on her forehead, and long, soft pink ribbons draped around her neck. As she moved, the bells and jade ornaments she wore jingled harmoniously, the epitome of grace and beauty.

"I need to complete a ritual, and I hope you will help me just this once, for without your aid, this egg will suffer the most tragic fate. Please..." Wei Shiyue bowed her lovely dragon’s head before Xu Yang, and as she opened her eyes, he could see the shimmering frost-silver of a dragon’s gaze.

"I understand," Xu Yang gently patted Wei Shiyue’s scales.

Wei Shiyue joyously realized she was finally about to possess a dragon egg.

And she would become a true mother. For a female dragon, what could be more satisfying?
