Chapter 675: 566 new friends
If the Farosa of the past caught the Wolf Girl, she would definitely torture her until she surrendered, thought Xu Yang. However, Farosa must have matured by now and might have other methods.
"Let’s go, I’ll take you to learn how to read." Xu Yang felt it wasn’t right for the Wolf Girl to keep howling like this.
The Wolf Girl lifted the strap of her collar, insisting that they lead her by hand.
As Xu Yang held the leash, he felt that leading the Wolf Girl back to the company like this would be perceived as perverse, and it was also against his morals.
"Come on, isn’t it fun? A little dog girl with a collar." Rinne just found it amusing.
Xu Yang shook his head.
"From now on," Xu Yang declared to the Wolf Girl, "you will move without any collar because slavery is not allowed here. No one here will harm you, and you must not harm others."
Then Xu Yang stepped forward, unfastened the Wolf Girl’s collar, and threw it away.
The Wolf Girl touched her smooth neck, which still bore the marks of wearing a collar for many years. She immediately let out a pained howl, crouched on the ground for a while, pleading for someone to come and fasten the collar back on her.
Xu Yang and Rinne walked away, while the Wolf Girl crawled around on all fours like a lone wild beast, howling with each lap and looking up at them, hoping they would change their minds and come back to lead her away. But they just left the Wolf Girl there, and other female guards were already prepared to escort the Wolf Girl back to the cell.
Considering the huge difference between the narrowness of the cell and the vastness of the outside world, the Wolf Girl eventually got on all fours and hurriedly ran toward Xu Yang and Rinne, following behind them.
"If you walk upright, you’ll have more food in the evening. Roast pork, roast beef, roast chicken..." Rinne turned her head to persuade the Wolf Girl in a soothing manner.
Thinking of the delicious roasted meats, the Wolf Girl got up, drooling.
Her body proportions were different from humans, so even standing, she moved forward in a slightly hunched manner, with a bowed back, head inclined forward, and her arms hanging to the sides, hands past the knees — indeed a true Wolf Girl, completely like a wild beast.
This couldn’t be corrected; they had to accommodate her strange gait. But even hunched over, she was still a head taller than Xu Yang and Rinne.
Back in Xu Yang’s studio, Rinne pulled him aside, and the Wolf Girl joined Little Fool’s literacy class.
"Guabu," Little Fool picked up a flashcard and taught the Wolf Girl how to speak. "Guabu."
"Awooo." The Wolf Girl looked at the spelling on the card.
"Meow." Little Farosa helped comb the Wolf Girl’s hair.
Little Fool was quite satisfied with their progress and also liked the Wolf Girl’s large build as her new friend; from then on, she wouldn’t have to crawl around but could sit on the Wolf Girl’s back and be carried everywhere. The strong Wolf Girl would become a great companion for Little Fool.
To establish a good relationship with the Wolf Girl in advance, Little Fool specially filled a lot of milk for the Wolf Girl. When the Wolf Girl saw the food, she lay down on the ground and slowly licked it with her tongue.
"Guabu Guabu!" Little Fool anxiously helped the Wolf Girl up... how could a person eat lying on the ground? Wouldn’t that make her a super-small child?
The Wolf Girl ignored Little Fool, licking the milk on her own. Her wet tongue rose and fell, creating ripples on the surface of the milk. Upon closer inspection, Little Fool noticed the barbs on the Wolf Girl’s tongue, which frightened her into jumping back.
"Guabu..." Little Fool rolled on the floor, dismayed by her failure.
Little Farosa smiled and approached.
"You should embrace your new life," she said and then patiently taught the Wolf Girl how to sit and eat, demonstrating over and over, correcting her bad habits.
For some reason, in Little Farosa’s presence, all of the Wolf Girl’s ambitions, ferocious temper, and animalistic instincts seemed to fade, replaced by a strong desire to obey.
"You will listen to me." Little Farosa caressed the Wolf Girl’s cheeks repeatedly. "Listen to what I say, listen only to me, right?"
"Wuu..." The Wolf Girl lowered her head.
"Learn what I teach you, and then you will become a better witch," Little Farosa’s voice became softer with each word, as if penetrating deep into the Wolf Girl’s heart, as though she was familiar with and knew all her secrets.
The Wolf Girl could not resist such a powerful suggestion; she immediately stood up and drank the bowl of milk dry.
"Guabu!" Little Fool stood up, delighted.
"Where is your father?" asked Little Farosa, only having seen Rinne lead Xu Yang away, then softly addressed Little Fool, "Go find him; bring him back, he should be at your side, shouldn’t he?"
"Guabu ya." Little Fool believed this to be true.
Little Fool embarked on the quest to find her parent. She came to Xu Yang’s private room, first climbed onto the bed, and then took a daring leap from there to the high desk, where she opened the terminal, located Xu Yang’s private communication link, typed away at it, and then sent a recorded message of her own voice.
"Guabu?"
The message was sent but rejected by the recipient.
Little Fool could only stare at the red warning helplessly.
Xu Yang was really inconvenienced.
At that moment, he was aboard the Purple Wind, leaning back in his seat, while Rinne tasted Cyber tits alongside him.
With the Purple Wind on autopilot, they were at 1,200 meters high, completely losing themselves in the act, and only after finishing did Rinne remember why she had pulled Xu Yang aside.
She was supposed to relay the little secret of Wei Shiyue, but she got caught up in hammering stakes instead.
However, this matter couldn’t be undertaken rashly; they had to clarify the situation first and then launch the operation all at once, otherwise, if any mistakes occurred, no one could bear the responsibility, especially since Wei Shiyue was such a formidable Dragon Clan Princess. She absolutely could not be treated in the same way as an ordinary woman or a Witch.
If there were any mistakes, Xu Yang might be devoured by a dragon.
"Have you been busy lately? Do you have work?" Rinne inquired.
"Why bring this up all of a sudden?" Xu Yang said as he took a dry towel and wiped them both down.
"I’ve always been your assistant, that’s how fast the switch between personal and business is," Rinne cunningly said.
"My schedule is already full."
"Oh." Rinne checked and found that Xu Yang would be leaving Shangjing for a week, "Where are you going?"
"I’m going to separate Charo Island from the Taiya Archipelago. I want to see it personally; if a person stays away from the front lines for too long, they’ll forget what the battlefield looks like," Xu Yang said.
Charo Island! A thought struck Rinne. The tropical island, densely populated, was recently undergoing a rebellion against Black Fire Innovation. Now, it seemed to be brought to the negotiation table as one of the spoils of the victorious side.
"What about the Helis Sea?" Rinne asked, feigning surprise on the surface but feeling secretly thrilled inside.
With Mr. Web Monitor away, he would definitely authorize her to take charge alone in the Helis Sea. Then Rinne could finally see a Cyber Specter up close, the beast trapped within the sea, which must have gone mad with torment by now.
"I will also constantly monitor our company’s Helis Sea base because the front-line troops have already established network base stations connecting to the main island, so working on the front lines is the same as working here," Xu Yang explained.
"Oh." Rinne was deeply disappointed, "So what about me? What do I do?"
"You can come with me to Charo Island or stay here."
"Then I won’t go this time." Rinne was more concerned about Wei Shiyue’s egg.
Thus, they parted ways; Xu Yang returned to Nestor Headquarters to take care of the children and then packed his bags for Charo Island. Rinne disembarked the Purple Wind and ran to continue monitoring Wei Shiyue’s situation.
"She seems a bit bewitched," Du Qianqian, who lived with Wei Shiyue, said as she opened the door for Rinne. Unable to resist, she spoke up about Wei Shiyue’s condition.
"What do you mean?"
"Come inside," Du Qianqian, paranoid as if more nervous than Wei Shiyue herself, led Rinne to sit in the living room. Du Qianqian carelessly handed her a glass of water from the tap.
Rinne sharply heard two women talking upstairs, one was Wei Shiyue, and the other Rinne did not recognize.
"Who? What guest has come?" Rinne asked in a hushed voice.
Walking back and forth in the living room, Du Qianqian, dressed in expensive clothes, surrounded by a wall full of wine collections, lived in a house worth tens of millions with a sizable garden and a swimming pool. Yet, amidst these luxuries, Du Qianqian resembled a bewildered, fearful animal in a cage, which reminded Rinne of the Wolf Girl earlier. Perhaps Du Qianqian needed a collar to walk?
"It’s... a witch from Mingge Mountain," Du Qianqian sighed.
"A genuine witch?" Rinne perked up, "Is she here to guide Wei Shiyue?"
"How do you know it’s for guidance, and what do you know? What has Wei Shiyue told you? Why won’t she tell me? Are you involved in this?" Du Qianqian’s tone grew more and more frantic, and her gaze on Rinne shifted.
Rinne felt a chill run down her spine; when Du Qianqian lost her temper, she was like a ticking time bomb, and Rinne truly regretted sitting there, subjected to her scrutiny. Considering how narrow-minded Du Qianqian was, Rinne found it hard to imagine the dynamic between her and Wei Shiyue in everyday life.
A moment later, Wei Shiyue called out to Rinne from upstairs.
"I know you’re here, come up."
As Rinne moved to follow the voice, Du Qianqian’s icy stare almost pinned her in place as if by a spell, rendering her immobile. But Rinne gritted her teeth, stood up, and walked upstairs.
Just as she was about to enter the room, the sliding door was pulled open, and a woman, barefoot, wearing a pink robe and a fox mask, came out, gave Rinne a slight bow, and then went downstairs.
Rinne glanced briefly, seeing the woman confronted by Du Qianqian’s questioning but seemingly indifferent, able to completely resist Du Qianqian’s insistence and converse without giving anything away, apparently a very mature witch.
Once inside, Wei Shiyue sat on the tatami mat, her expression solemn.
"Who was that witch just now?" Rinne was curious.
"An expert in mysticism. I was supposed to consult the Witch Goddess, but I doubt I’d get a positive response," Wei Shiyue caressed her small belly.
"So it’s still about the dragon egg?" Rinne was curious.
"She will perform a prophecy and a ritual for me at the Eternal Cherry Blossom Shrine on Mingge Mountain, predicting fortune and misfortune. If the result is good, the egg will have its chance to hatch," Wei Shiyue closed her eyes.
"What do you expect in your heart?" Rinne asked, feeling the gravity of Wei Shiyue’s expression.
"... Nothing." Wei Shiyue’s voice was void of emotion, "I am both longing and fearing. The best would be for it to be born, but if I destroy it, I..."
Rinne heard some noise and excused herself with a stomachache to go downstairs, and sure enough, Du Qianqian was standing at the staircase watching her. Wasn’t it somewhat unfair not to let Du Qianqian know about this? Rinne felt she had entered a Great Maelstrom and found it to be quite troublesome.
But who wouldn’t want to see Wei Shiyue lay an egg?
