Chapter 542: Chapter 469 Black Wall

Late at night, on the rooftop of the Xisheng Shrine.

"Again?" Xu Yang asked.

"Forget it... forget it!"

Xu Yang still had energy left, but Kanako was completely worn out. She lethargically looked around, blinking incessantly.

"This is mom’s tea room," Kanako exclaimed, "I never thought I’d be here, feels like I’m insulting her, so strange!"

"Don’t you like it?" Xu Yang stroked Kanako’s hair.

"Ouch." Kanako rolled on the tatami mats where Honma Noriko had sat, "If mom knew what we were doing here, she’d definitely be furious."

"This isn’t any sacred place. Speaking of which, it actually has quite a gloomy atmosphere; she’s been staying here since she got old."

"Then the heat we’ve created should dispel her shadows," Kanako said with a smile.

Kanako jumped off the tatami mats and walked barefoot on the wooden floor.

Looking back at the place where she had been, where they had sweated from hard work, she gave Xu Yang a victorious gesture.

Honma Noriko’s tea room was a fully enclosed sterile room, up to the standards for handling fragile patients—immaculate and brightly lit.

The terminals and servers here were of exceptionally high performance, facilitating Honma Noriko to deal with messages from all over the world, but now were commandeered by Xu Yang. He set up the network environment here, planning for the Helis Sea System and enhancing network security protocols. The data center beneath the shrine was enormous, offering astonishing computing power, comparable to a supercomputer, enough to support the operation of artificial intelligence.

Here, Xu Yang indeed felt the loneliness of being in high places. In Shangjing, they had fewer friends and more enemies.

"Our swift victory has reduced unnecessary casualties," Xu Yang looked towards the brightly lit metropolis, "but troubles remain. What about your people? Do you still have contacts in the Northern Archipelago you can reach?"

"Of course." Kanako operated on the terminal, searching for her company’s records, "Previously, as you suggested, I assembled about 400 ninjas, a 1000-member troop, two laboratories, and one surface fleet, all currently stashed near Shengbo City, organized into what’s called the Kanako Company, just not yet utilized. Plus, I still have over 17 million left on me."

"Nestor Corporation’s books still show hundreds of billions in reserves," Xu Yang nodded, "Now it’s about digesting our achievements, converting what we’ve gained into strength on all fronts. If it’s Kanako, you should be clearer than us about what kind of place Shangjing is."

"I know, I can help you work through the issues inside and outside Shangjing, clear the remaining opposition... but one generation isn’t enough to finish all these tasks." Kanako turned towards Xu Yang.

"The next generation..."

"If you want, I’m willing," Kanako lowered her head.

"It’ll be quite a hassle," Xu Yang pinched Kanako.

"What... I’m not afraid of a little trouble."

"We actually do have successors," Xu Yang explained, "Honma Noriko said we would be forgotten if we failed. That’s not entirely true. Those young kids, the adolescents and witches who grew up in Nestor Corporation, they will still remember the words we said, the things we did."

"But not as closely related by blood as one’s own child."

"You like kids?" Xu Yang scrutinized her.

"I do. I’ve decided to sever ties with mom and stay here for life; is wanting a child too much?" Kanako pouted.

"Then I’ll show you a nice kid." Xu Yang and she got dressed properly, and looked for Little Fool in a small house on the other end of the large flat.

She lay in her pajamas under the moonlight but wasn’t asleep, hands cushioned behind her head, legs propped up, and gazed unblinkingly at the moon outside, a milk bottle hung on her chest like an amulet. Although she had been weaned for quite some time, she still liked it.

"That drooling, wide-eyed dumb kid?" Kanako was incredulous.

"Uh, that’s not the way to describe her. Her name is Xu Cheng," Xu Yang explained.

"Grew so much in just a year, what kind of technology?" Kanako’s eyes widened.

"First off, she was brought in from outside, and the name was given later."

Kanako felt strange yet amused.

She had met many adorable children in her childhood; the Xisheng Shrine used to be filled with Honma Noriko’s descendants, to this day "children of Xisheng" numbered over 4,000 people scattered across the world. And no matter how cunning those offspring were, they were also wailing babies at birth.

Kanako went over to Little Fool, wiped her chubby cheeks clean with a tissue. Little Fool had been staring at the silver dots on the moon, suddenly shocked to have her face covered in soft tissue by an unfamiliar young girl.

"Gah?" Little Fool immediately turned over and gazed blankly at Kanako.

"If you want to hold a child, then hold her," Xu Yang said.

"Feels like a fragile porcelain doll." Kojima Kanako dared not handle Little Fool.

"She’s much stronger than you imagine," Xu Yang laughed.

Kanako kneeled on the ground and waved at Little Fool, who stared straight back at her.

Such a peaceful gaze, Kanako could not detect any emotion in Little Fool’s innocent look.

It was like looking into a mirror, actually seeing oneself. Kanako thought to herself.

This gaze made Kanako swiftly traverse her own life from the past to present, searching through areas worth reflecting upon. Ultimately, Kanako had to confront all the dark aspects of her life, confronting those wavering, fearful, and pessimistic thoughts, the various compromises made under her mother’s authority. If she couldn’t eradicate them, Kanako wouldn’t be able to be reborn.

"What a weird kid," Kanako averted her eyes, "an astonishing ’Tiny’."
