Chapter 509: Chapter 448 Maintenance and Restoration_2
Tenjouin Kiriya thought of the key point.
The magic power of the Witch extinguished the life signs of more than seven thousand people at the NCER base in an instant, and if such power were used on the mothership, then the ship would also go out of control and crash to the ground.
There was no need to rush the decisive battle. Nestor Corporation was a poor, technologically backward latecomer company; for every Synthetic Human they fight, they lose one. Whereas the New Xisheng Group had deep pockets, absolutely capable of enduring the depletion. They could completely recruit a new army of six hundred thousand people from the Northern Archipelago, capable of replenishing their forces no matter how many losses they suffered.
"Defending Shangjing was also a wise choice," the staff officer made the same suggestion, "Let their troops suffer heavy casualties before the Eternal Fortifications, their factories destroyed under the onslaught of satellite weapons, and then Nestor Corporation would fall apart without our attack."
"What about the NCER base?" the elderly staff officer shook his head, "They have nuclear weapons."
"They wouldn’t dare launch them."
"Reclamation has already begun in Akasumi City."
"We can deploy the mothership," the rest of the commanding officers discussed the feasibility of various plans. Tenjouin Kiriya selected the useful ideas from their conversations.
1.7%, he glanced at the service of the Hundred-eyes Demon System. Was the chance of winning really that low?
What about trading the mothership for the Ancient Witch?
The moment the mothership was attacked, have Tenjouin Zina use All Directions Stop to lock down everything in the field, then they could find the user of the magic power... Was this their only hope?
The glass sliding door was swiftly pulled open as a junior staff officer rushed in, handing over the latest developments to Tenjouin Kiriya.
After scanning the latest battle report, his expression changed immediately.
No, this won’t do...
Calamitous news continued to spread.
First, the White Island Bridge was completely unscathed!
The latest reconnaissance footage of the battlefield revealed the state of the bridge, which looked like it hadn’t been destroyed at all! The air force’s bombing operation was like a dream! Vehicles were still crossing; Nestor Corporation blocked the bridge for fifteen minutes, then fully repaired it, showing what engineering capacity? Didn’t it take time to communicate with the original construction company... repaired to look exactly as before!
Second, Wei Shiyue was completely unharmed!
The Dragon had turned back into human form, casually filming a new video clip for her concerned fans, indicating she was not seriously injured. But this wasn’t just about not being seriously hurt; there wasn’t even a trace of injury! What kind of formidable medical ability was this, or was this an Immortal Dragon, Takahashi Kyoko’s deadly sniper shot only caused it pain for a few minutes?
Third, Nestor Corporation’s Synthetic Humans were unceasing!
New Xisheng identified Synthetic Humans through electromagnetic characteristics, yet many previously confirmed as killed Synthetic Humans re-joined the fight in the next round as if being blown to bits was an illusion or machine misjudgment! They returned to the rear and charged fiercely into battle again, seeking enemies! More of Shangjing’s peripheral positions were completely lost; at this rate, they would besiege the city in a few hours! The direct pressure on the battlefield was not diminishing but increasing!
"Nestor Corporation needs at least twenty to thirty thousand Synthetic Human soldiers to maintain this continuous offensive," lamented the staff officer, "Or perhaps their logistical repair capabilities are far superior to ours!"
This news was unbelievable. Tenjouin Kiriya turned to look at his own operational plans, now he had to overturn all of them.
Restoration abilities. The enemy they were currently up against wasn’t a conventional company at all...
Were they really ready to confront a Supreme Witch, even an Empress-level Witch?
Tenjouin Kiriya closed his eyes, giving his tense nerves a few seconds of rest.
Agony.
A single command of his would determine the entire group, decide the destinies of millions and billions of people. Tenjouin Kiriya thought to himself. This was the heavy responsibility of supreme command. It was rumored that Lila Nestor was a robot, and how fortunate that was.
"Have all units prepare to cooperate with the space mothership in combat," Tenjouin Kiriya issued the order, "We will launch a beautiful counterattack after sunrise."
Elsewhere, in Akasumi City.
An overworked mechanic named Matsuda finished his shift and dragged his exhausted body back to his cramped rental, a tiny 8-square-meter room.
The moment Matsuda touched the bed, he fell into a deep sleep. With payday still a long way off, he lived frugally to the extreme.
He was a contract worker for Iwasaki Heavy Industries with a base salary of 1300 and a performance bonus of 2500, subject to the supervisor’s mood. These figures spun in his head, even in his dreams he longed for a good meal.
He slept soundly, unaware of the destruction of the NCER Base, nor did the counterattack from the Iwasaki Heavy Industries security department wake him, only the ringtone of his broken phone catapulted him from the bed.
The message was always the same.
Go back for overtime.
His heart ached unbearably, but the red warning, like a warrant from death itself, hurried him on his way. His credit score was precious; a deduction could mean unemployment and starvation.
Stumbling forward, he saw numerous armored personnel carriers and shuttle machines moving swiftly. By the time he reached the workshop, he saw that they had sent in no ordinary machine for repair, but a frightening "Inugami" Class BATO-5 Combat Robot.
Half of its body was blown away. Who did it? How did they do it? Matsuda knew nothing. He only knew that war had surely begun—a corporate war. The usual rebel army was a nonentity, taken down early when handing out flyers and setting up communities.
As a mere cog, Matsuda was a lowly laborer. New Xisheng Group weighed down on Iwasaki Heavy Industries, which in turn pressed upon the labor dispatch company, which then weighed down on him.
To repair the "Inugami," he felt dizzy, barely distinguishing his body from the robot. He struggled to lift the impact wrench and cooperated with his workgroup, toiling willingly. The others were silent and mechanical, each assigned their task to repair different sections of the battle robot. It was cold outside, but inside the workshop, it was swelteringly hot.
It was not even five minutes before Matsuda collapsed onto the floor like a plank.
A coworker helped him up, and Matsuda admitted in a low voice that he was starving. Another worker with a somber face took out a strip of nutrient paste from his pocket and handed it to him.
A white-packaged nutrient paste, manufactured by a local filling factory, with Nestor Corporation’s co-op mark in the corner, indicating that most of the nutritional content came from the Nestor Co-op’s farm produce.
The Nestor Co-op was one of the few enterprises still providing food inside the island, stabilizing grain prices. From budget nutrient pastes to expensive restaurants, their presence was always on the supplier list.
"Don’t eat that," another worker muttered, "It was Nestor Corporation that wrecked this robot. We’re at war with Nestor Corporation now. Eating even a slice is like aiding the enemy."
Ignoring his advice, Matsuda stuffed the nutrient paste into his mouth. The pale nutrient paste was bland and tasteless but filling. His hands stopped trembling, and he felt a bit of strength return to his legs. Good. Anything with the Nestor logo tasted better than other nutrient pastes.
Nestor Corporation...
He looked at the robot in front of him.
Myth-like stories had been circulating among the laborers for weeks. After joining Nestor Corporation, people received generous treatment, lived a dignified life, and the days of being used as consumables were gone.
Every time he heard such news, his heart felt tight, as if wandering through a pitch-black tunnel when suddenly a crack let in a sliver of light.
He looked down at the "Inugami" robot in front of him.
After two hours of strenuous repairs, the combat robot was fixed and started moving again, its arm-mounted machine guns raised as it left the factory. Having been repaired, it would soon return to the battlefield—to recapture the NCER Base, it was said.
Before he could catch his breath, a second robot was brought in. Matsuda realized he might die of exhaustion here.
Working through the night until past five in the morning, his eyes red with fatigue, he worked harder than anyone else. The robot was repaired quickly, but Matsuda knew it would soon fall in battle—and it did, reportedly flopping down just minutes into the fight.
No one was held accountable, and overtime was ending. As alarms sounded, Matuda heard that Nestor Corporation was threatening Akasumi City. The factory was evacuating, transferring manpower and machines elsewhere to continue production. He blended into the crowd while discreetly discarding screws and coils of cable stolen from the "Inugami" robots into a corner; it was too risky, and he didn’t know where he found the courage.
But he didn’t care about surveillance and trials anymore—he would rather be destroyed along with the company!
