Chapter 496 - 440 Jail

Chapter 496: Chapter 440 Jail

Taixi Continent, a history professor from Romani University was strolling through the Gaul countryside.

He looked up at the dazzling sun, sighed deeply, and tucked the blood magic ring on his finger deep into his sleeve to avoid scorching from the intense sunlight.

The professor was walking alone on top of a small hill, gently responding to a call from the distant Northern Archipelago, issued by an inquisitive female student of his, who had delved into one of the ancient secrets of the Taixi Continent as a witch due to her excessive curiosity.

"Where are you now, Professor?" Minamoto Makoto pleaded, "I need to learn more in order to face an unprecedentedly powerful adversary."

"As a lover of history," the professor murmured in response, "I am leading a group of energetic university students to investigate the Aquilia District in Taixi Continent. You really should see the scenery here, the grass is green, the sky clear for miles, and the land is dotted with forests and ponds."

"Why go to such a place?" Minamoto Makoto couldn’t help but feel perplexed, "It’s just countryside."

"A witch, the most dangerous witch of all time, was born here," the professor said as he surveyed the many ancient buildings on the hillside, many of which had been renovated and showed a new face, "The old powers of Taixi are searching for the traces of her existence. A thousand years ago, she was born on the very soil I stand on, perhaps in one of the houses I am now looking at. In the next ten to twenty years, her name will be known to the world. In fact, her deeds and sins have already invisibly influenced everyone’s lives."

"You mean, the ancient witch," Minamoto Makoto snapped out of her trance, "She’s in the Northern Archipelago, here with me. So, you have even more reason to impart your knowledge to me. In case we meet on the battlefield, I need to be sure of victory."

"The ring on your hand is a sharp weapon against her magic power; blood is an effective weapon. All you need to learn are more magic formulas, which combined with your own magic power, will ultimately ensure your victory."

Blood continually transformed into new magic formula shapes on the mirror, each composed of complex sigils and secret scripts. Minamoto Makoto greedily studied her reflection, learning miracles from the servant of the Blood God. Then the blood on the ring gradually depleted, and the hard-earned distant connection broke along with it.

Blood, the highly valued blood. Minamoto Makoto rubbed the blood magic ring on her finger. It was time to extract blood from that kitsune again.

Elsewhere, after teleporting several times in succession, 101 brings 102 to the outskirts of Shangjing, to a fringe area called Kurobayashi Town.

The place was filled with abandoned building complexes, constructed with abundant loans during the economic boom, but left unfinished during the downturn as funding chains collapsed, and thereafter deserted on the outskirts of Shangjing. The buildings stretched out in clusters like a forest of curses spurning urban civilization.

The sisters moved through Kurobayashi Town, an area full of decay, with derelict buildings reaching for the sky. Due to missing equipment, the upper levels were inaccessible, and only a few astute groups chose to occupy high floors while the rest huddled at the base of structures.

Shopping centers, parking lots, and shopping plazas intended in the plans were now overrun by vast swaths of homeless people. The order at the bottom was held by gangs, violent groups, mercenaries, and corporate enforcers. The streets were in disrepair, littered with rubbish, making the sisters uncomfortable.

However, this was also a place that could avoid detection by the Century Pure Land. 101 entered a dark net café, and found every device manned, unlike the common unmanned centers in Anjiu City; they were nowhere to be found here. Instead, there were armed hoodlums and hitmen everywhere, dressed in heavy clothes, using hoods, sunglasses, and long coats to hide themselves.

She swiped her cash card to the café manager, whose head down was filled with metal modifications, looking quite intimidating with pliers and screwdrivers replacing two of his fingers, like a man of iron. He carefully scanned 101 and 102 multiple times, finding nothing amiss, which puzzled him. His gaze landed on the massive weapon case on 102’s back.

"It could blow up half the city," the café manager pointed out.

"We’ll leave in fifteen minutes, won’t blow up your shack," 101 said hastily, quickly leaving the clanking cyborg and swiftly pulling her sister by the hand into a private room, fearing she might get lost.

"Such a scary place," 102 locked the door of the compartment behind her.

"We need to locate the target," 101 and 102 were here to rescue Nanase Kizuna and didn’t have a second to waste.

dragged over a white plastic chair, stepped on it, and smashed the plastic camera in the corner. Then carrying her Short Spear, she entered the hallway. If the iron man caused trouble, she would hold him off, yet the café manager didn’t come to check for a long time. Curious, she went to the front desk and sneaked a peek at the screens of the monitoring system, only to find they had long since broken.

accessed the deep anonymous network on the terminal inside the room, searching for the site files left by Xu Yang to find clues.

Not long after the previous conflict, a heavy armored vehicle approached Kyoto Infinity Building, surrounded by personnel from the Shangjing United Security Company, and left swiftly after a few minutes. It was likely the vehicle transferring the kitsune-form Nanase Kizuna.

lifted her face mask, bit her gloved hand, and pondered her next move. She then set the terminal in front of her as a signal relay so that the distant Xu Yang could use it to infiltrate the fringes of the Shangjing Metropolitan Area, tracking the vehicle’s trajectory through various fragmentary camera records.

Absorbed in his task, Xu Yang accessed the system and helped the sisters analyze the information. He searched through these surveillance systems and also investigated bits and pieces of civilian clues. In the information age, people posted all kinds of observations online. Shangjing, with a population of fifty million, had its events probed into by astute citizens.

Eventually, Xu Yang pieced together scattered clues, images, and videos into a key pointing to their destination.

"Protomo Prison, operated by an intercontinental prison company," Xu Yang deduced, sending the pertinent intelligence files to the sisters.

"..." 101 read carefully, realizing she couldn’t memorize it, so she instructed 102 to get the details down pat, then deleted the access records and shut off the terminal.

memorized every detail about the prison, becoming more familiar with it than her own home. She followed her sister, leaving the net café and teleporting away through the alleys, heading towards Protomo Prison.

The prison was nestled within the secluded mountains on the outskirts of Shangjing, its inhospitable terrain meant there was only a single narrow path leading to the prison itself. Defenses at the front were substantial, the guard strict and vigilant, making any assault nigh impossible.

Leaping to the top of a nearby mountain, 101 and 102 crouched under an ancient cedar tree, avoiding the patrol teams and drones, and used the dense forest for cover to survey the prison.

"It’s incredibly fortified... Just like the intel described, with walls... barbed wire... searchlights..." 102 placed her hand on her forehead, peering carefully, "All the trees around have been cleared, no one could approach without notice, but they don’t have the resources to defend against a witch attack."

"It’s too far, the orb will lose its power after only a few checks." 101 observed the prison using the Farsight Orb in her hands, but the magic power of the orb quickly drained at the glimpse of the interior. They were too far away, yet getting closer was too risky.

"We need... we need to go back, get more people." 102 bent over and edged closer to the slope of the hill, Protomo Prison located at the peak of the hillock, isolated and towering.

A fleet of vehicles belonging to the New Xisheng Group approached the prison, apparently on some mission.

"Maybe they’re going for Nanase Kizuna?" 102 wondered with curiosity, "Just use the orb to follow their route."

"That’s the only option now." 101 gently stroked the orb in her hand, her expression solemn, "If it doesn’t work now, we’ll have to wait a whole day for its power to slowly regenerate."

They had to rescue Nanase Kizuna, the aid of this powerful monster would be advantageous in their future battles against the New Xisheng Group. Naturally, the sisters hoped to complete the mission swiftly to avoid complications, who knows what could happen the next day.

So, they decided to use the orb to understand this new team’s movements, to see if they led to Nanase Kizuna.

held her breath and waited for the squad to enter the building, then used the orb to follow their path.

The view on the orb was blurry and dim, requiring careful focus to discern, as if seen through a veil. It was a copy crafted by Farosa based on Lila’s perceptive magic power, not as powerful as the original.

They navigated through the complex prison facility, taking turns here and there, while 102 verbally mapped out the structure for 101 to adjust the orb’s viewpoint accordingly, conserving energy.

"The monster’s containment area is right here." The prison staff brought soldiers and medical personnel to the detention area at the prison’s base.

Nanase Kizuna!

The giant fox lay at the bottom of the containment room, guarded by bulletproof glass and superalloy railings. There were at least thirty researchers and security personnel on standby, ready to extract more of the monster race’s secrets. Nanase Kizuna’s actual body was languid due to an overdose of sedatives.

At this moment, the charge of the Farsight Orb in 101’s hand was nearly depleted. In order to conserve some energy for the orb, 101 decided to cease peeping, preparing for the incursion.

"We have to be quick, 102." 101 squatted on the ground, tracing with her fingers in the soil, "I’ll jump down, grab the fox, and throw all the grenades and bombs hidden in my armor, then teleport back here. It’s heavy, so my leap will consume a lot of magic power, and you’ll have to carry it and me for a distance."

"Yes!" 102 was eager to try, happiest when acting in tandem with her sister, as if back in the good old days.

Timing the moment and estimating positions with enough room for error, 101 resolved to take one last look at the interior with the orb and then leaped in.

At that moment, as people were busily drawing blood from Nanase Kizuna, they suddenly saw an armored witch jump down from mid-air, causing instant panic!

With one hand, 101 grabbed the fur of Nanase Kizuna, flipped open the ammunition cases on either side of her armor, and timed-delay grenades flew in all directions. The next second, she teleported out with Nanase Kizuna to the hill where 102 had been, already having expended much of her magic power – the massive Nanase Kizuna weighed at least a ton!

Without a chance to brief 102, a loud explosion thundered from the base of the prison, shaking the ground!

"We did it!" 102 shouted, "It’s blown open!"

The commotion, earthquake, and blasts roused Nanase Kizuna, who opened its eyes weakly.

"What is this... who are you..." it uttered in a hoarse voice, utterly spent.

"You’re saved now, let’s go, run!" 102 activated her power, hefting Nanase Kizuna, with 101 sitting on the fox’s back, as 102 carried the fox and her sister quickly down the mountain.

"Once my magic power recovers a bit, we’ll jump again to safety." 101 took deep breaths, quickly downing a large pack of coffee, as the prison alarm blared behind them, "Head for the desolate places, but be careful not to let the fox bump into anything."

Nanase Kizuna was held aloft by 102’s outstretched arms, the wind rushing past it. It let out low moans.

"Oh big fox, oh big fox, your fur so loose and soft..." Carrying the massive fox, 102 raised her head high, and ran towards the wilderness with big strides, "Hey, don’t lick me with that tongue, stop it! It tickles! And don’t cry! Why cry? We’re safe now – safe!"
