Chapter 448: Chapter 401: Moonlight of Silla
Du Qianqian walked forward, following the assault team members over a low hill.
She leaned her body to look out and quickly saw the heavily defended position that the scout had described.
Six large bipedal combat robots were arrayed in the rear, their arms equipped with large-caliber rotary machine guns, their chests mounted with plasma main cannons, and their backs fitted with dual-launch grenade tubes capable of continuously lobbing explosives, boasting astonishing firepower.
There were also several heavy tanks and armored fighting vehicles beside them, silent like beasts in the dark. Their sheer size was enough to make Du Qianqian’s scalp tingle, to say nothing of their cannon barrels and gun chambers.
How are we supposed to fight this? Du Qianqian’s heart pounded.
She had only been involved in small-scale conflicts and did not understand that a real war with the corporation looked like this. No wonder people chose to be submissive citizens, for human strength could not contend with such masses of steel.
She looked at the mercenaries by her side, as if envisioning the scene where they were butchered, blasted apart, and torn to shreds.
Only Wei Shiyue remained calm, but she did not act rashly either.
The military posture prevented them from acting carelessly. The corporation’s artillery position was still operating. The robot porters were moving back and forth, loading another round of artillery under the assistance of the support personnel, and the missile launch vehicles had been adjusted to the correct firing trajectory as well.
In front of them, the missile launchers elevated, the propellant gases ignited with shrill noises, and the missiles, like arrows of death, were launched towards the city, instantly causing alarming destruction.
If they did not act, there would be casualties in Shunzhou City.
A corporate reconnaissance drone drew near slowly, causing unease among the mercenaries. They exchanged glances, contemplating what to do.
Du Qianqian made a split-second decision and brought down the drone with her King of Illusions.
Another manifestation of mysterious lethality.
Wei Shiyue turned her head and gave Du Qianqian’s disguised appearance a profound look; Du Qianqian wore a complex expression—this was her secret.
The reconnaissance drone spun as it fell to the ground, hitting with a muted thud, drowned out by the noise from the position. They realized they had to make an assault, or they would be exposed sooner or later.
The lead mercenary marked the hidden minefields in the woods with green fluorescent paint to prevent his brothers from stepping on mines, then made several tactical hand signals to the comrades behind him to indicate numbers. Du Qianqian understood them as well.
Seven, nine, one.
Throw seven EMP grenades at the robots to disrupt the battlefield, deploy nine tactical drones to clear the enemy infantry, and act after one minute.
Du Qianqian hid behind a tree on the hillside, her mentality changing rapidly with the war. She suddenly thought of an amusing fact—after winning, she could return to Shijin Mansion and boast to the Young Witch about how Miss Du had fought against the corporation’s army on Silla’s battlefield, opening fire on the corporate forces, showing those high and mighty corporate types the true prowess of the Witch.
A minute later, the assault team’s grenadiers threw their EMP grenades in unison!
They hurled the EMP grenades with all their might, hitting the weak points of the corporation’s position, exploding one after another, producing a succession of piercing electric currents. The delicate equipment and combat robots were instantly paralyzed, emitting dazzling electric sparks!
Following that, the drones purchased by the mercenaries took to the skies, continuously sweeping the battlefield with a grid of lasers, targeting key enemy units, cutting through and pulverizing the steel.
Du Qianqian also fired furiously with her King of Illusions, invisible bullets zipping past, felling one enemy after another on the battlefield.
But what shook them the most was Wei Shiyue!
She darted onto the battlefield like a shadow, her axe chopping down armored vehicles as if slicing through melons and vegetables. She treated the reactive armor of tanks like tofu, slicing them open. She leaped at an armored vehicle, raising the axe above her head with both hands. As she landed, she brought the axe down with all her might, splitting the heavy tank in half in an instant! The driver inside was cleaved apart along with it, blood mixing with steel!
How could there be such a monstrous soldier! Both the mercenaries and the corporate troops were stunned by Wei Shiyue’s performance, with the mercenaries especially relieved that she was on their side.
Amidst the ear-piercing rumble, gunfire, and screams, the mercenaries quickly cleared the self-propelled artillery and missile launchers with rocket launchers and grenades, engaged the Quick Reaction Force’s drones sent by the corporation, and blew up those deadly white wings in the air.
Logically, the assault should have been as smooth as a hot knife through butter, but the more they fought, the more they felt something was wrong. After destroying an entire squad with much effort, new combat robots, armored vehicles, and company security personnel quickly took their place.
The enemy numbers were growing.
Du Qianqian looked around in panic. The parched forest in the dark night was bustling everywhere with heads, as the corporate army closed in rapidly, relentlessly directing firepower onto this deep-penetrating assault team! Kong Tai hadn’t lied; the main force of the corporate army would arrive immediately.
"Retreat! Retreat!" shouts resounded through the mercenary’s comms channel, and Du Qianqian’s legs went weak as she took the lead and ran.
"Wipe them out!" Wei Shiyue charged down the hill, bullets whistling past her, causing no effective harm—it turned out she was impervious to blades and guns.
Seeing her charge into the enemy tide made the mercenaries anxious. They were forced to support her from the hillside, digging in their heels without retreating, and fought a fierce and intense firefight from their high ground position.
"Fight it out with them!"
"We can’t get away now! Fight for our lives!"
"Hold the line!"
The mercenaries, with blood in their eyes, decided to fight to the end alongside the girl. They set up machine guns and mortars on the hillside, firing madly at the corporate army that had been alerted and was approaching.
