Chapter 445: Chapter 399: Shunzhou City

Du Qianqian led Wei Shiyue toward The Flying Birds Group’s camp only to find it abandoned.

Tents and warehouses had been emptied in just a few hours, as if The Flying Birds Group had never existed in this world. Du Qianqian staggered, then steeled herself to pick up her phone and saw the unread messages had piled up to 35.

"Go ahead and read them." Wei Shiyue didn’t stop her.

"Shunzhou City." Du Qianqian read a new locale from Mizuiro Yoshioka’s messages, "They’ve gone to Shunzhou City."

"That’s a port." Wei Shiyue couldn’t have been more familiar, "A corporate city on the West Coast, what are they doing there?"

"To save a friend’s wife and child." Du Qianqian found the answer.

She reading Mizuiro Yoshioka’s message, it turned out that Cui Junyou’s wife and daughter were in Shunzhou City, so the main force had moved camp, partly to pick them up and partly to create an escape route for themselves.

Shunzhou City had an excellent port, located in the west of Silla. If they made it there, it would be convenient both to store supplies and to recruit manpower, and if things turned critical, they could retreat by sea. This must all have been the boss’s arrangements; his work was impeccable.

"We should go, too." Wei Shiyue glanced at the desolate camp, overgrown with weeds. There was not much left in the broken-down countryside of Silla, the cold wind howled, and Du Qianqian shivered. Seeing her freeze like that, Wei Shiyue added, "We’ll gather some supplies along the way."

Du Qianqian and Wei Shiyue journeyed west together. To avoid capture by the corporate armies, they deliberately avoided highways and main roads, choosing instead the dirt paths and two-lane cement roads common in the countryside. With wild grass growing madly on both sides, it was eerily quiet; they could only hear their footsteps. It was as if the whole world had been bombed back to the Stone Age, and they were the last two survivors of civilization.

If that were truly the case, could they, just the two of them, rebuild civilization? Du Qianqian’s thoughts began to wander randomly. Surely they couldn’t, she was a witch, and the other a dragoness.

The sky was gloomy, breaths turning to frost.

Du Qianqian had now forgotten her original purpose in coming to Silla to make money. She was curious about the new things she saw and fascinated by the mysterious Moonlight Princess. With her hands in her pockets, she followed behind Wei Shiyue, picking and choosing.

There was a service area at the side of the road in the countryside, set up as a rest stop for those on long rides.

A multi-armed eyeball robot was cleaning the parking lot, conscientiously doing its duty even though the place was empty of cars, its engine roaring. Seeing the shops, small hotels, and gas stations of the service area, Wei Shiyue walked in to rest. The robot floated over to her, asking for money for two packs of beef jerky. She chopped the robot to pieces on the ground with her axe.

Wei Shiyue sat on the counter, munching on beef jerky while turning on the wall-mounted TV. The broad communication service had been disconnected, so Wei Shiyue switched to the local service channel of Silla. Small businesses, private media, and small-scale merchants broadcast news in this way, with both content and quality being very limited and the picture quality unclear.

Wei Shiyue watched carefully, a look of shock crossing her face.

"Our spy has been discovered." Wei Shiyue murmured.

Du Qianqian looked up and saw Modern Entertainment arresting a group accused of serious rebellion against their corporate entity. Reporters were filming the live capture.

They were pulled from workstations and offices, handcuffed quickly, and became prisoners at the foot of authority. Trials and executions were the next procedures in line.

Wei Shiyue watched intently, wondering if they had caught the wrong person, but gradually the realization dawned on her—the Righteous Army’s spies planted in the company had been rooted out. Their intelligence network, meticulously built over years, was now wiped out. From now on, they would be blind to Modern Entertainment. Without the spy network, it would be hard for the Righteous Army to progress.

They heard the sound of aircraft swooping past, and Du Qianqian quickly hid behind the counter. After it passed overhead, Wei Shiyue rushed outside to look up and saw an armed helicopter bearing the fierce beast logo of Modern Entertainment veering off towards the northeast, seemingly to support the battle there. Had the corporate army started to counter-attack?

These ominous signs cast a solemn expression on Wei Shiyue’s face.

"I have a bad feeling," said Wei Shiyue, "...let’s pack up and leave quickly."

She took a tactical mask from the sports equipment shelf, put it on her face, concealed her hair under a camouflage cap, put on sunglasses, and was fully disguised.

Du Qianqian kept staring at Wei Shiyue, a thought flashing through her mind, like a bolt of lightning.

"What is it? Everyone thinks I’m dead and I can’t show my real face." Wei Shiyue explained.

"Hmm..." Du Qianqian’s mind instantly drifted to the boss. The reason why the boss always fully concealed himself and never revealed his true face was probably the same. The boss must also be seen as dead in others’ eyes, so he gave up his original appearance, chose to hide in the shadows, and never even told Du Qianqian his real name.

"What’s wrong?" Wei Shiyue seemed puzzled,

"Nothing, let’s go." Du Qianqian couldn’t help but wonder what the boss had done before becoming "boss." Was he a professional hacker?

"If you have something on your mind, tell me," Wei Shiyue led the way, "You’re the type to keep things bottled up. It may be okay with others, but you have to be honest with me."

"You ask too much of others!" Du Qianqian said.

Wei Shiyue let out a relaxed chuckle.

After walking for a whole hour, they finally saw Shunzhou City on the coast. On the road, Mizuiro Yoshioka was already waiting for Du Qianqian in a three-wheeled motorcycle.
