Chapter 438: Chapter 394 Seal
Ways to get rich quickly are often embarrassing, like tomb raiding.
Du Qianqian’s destination was Shiyin Grand King Cave, not far away, just 15 miles from her residence, Silla was very small, a quick trip there and back.
After walking for 10 minutes on foot, Du Qianqian saw a black shared bicycle next to the damaged road, so she climbed on and continued pedaling toward her destination. It didn’t cost any money, after the company that operated it went bankrupt, its software was cracked by the hacker organization Formless System, and hence they became truly shared transportation tools, available for anyone to ride.
If you had to pay, then why call it shared? Du Qianqian mused to herself. Wasn’t it a tool for companies to profit? However, if it couldn’t turn a profit, the company would have no motivation to develop these gadgets.
That’s not right either, why develop shared bicycles? With technology so advanced, what’s so difficult about providing a hundred bicycles for every person in the world? Du Qianqian pedaled and pondered aimlessly as she went.
Soon she received a text message from Mizuiro Yoshioka.
"Where are you?" Mizuiro Yoshioka asked.
"Outside." Du Qianqian replied vaguely.
"Be careful." Mizuiro Yoshioka ended the message with a smiley face, "You should have taken the Shuttle Machine out."
This kind of care made Du Qianqian feel out of place, she thought it was all cheap emotion, and that she herself was a cheap Witch. Du Qianqian looked ahead, the wilderness and hills shrouded in darkness, Shiyin Grand King Cave was located in the demilitarized zone at the southern foot of Yaoyin Mountain, quite remote.
Wait until daylight?
That would be too slow.
"It’s not far, I’ll go have a look." Du Qianqian replied. She estimated how long it would take to travel the 15-mile distance.
At the very least, she wanted to see what the tomb was like, Du Qianqian had always been bold, without any scruples.
Riding, riding, this is so boring; Du Qianqian normally didn’t like to think, but riding a bicycle at night was so dull, it made her start to ponder against her will.
A witch’s thoughts are one-third composed of memories, and now the deepest memories she had were of the few outings with her boss, discovering something new every time. It made her desperate to go on a few more trips with her boss, but that was too difficult.
Reach out and take what you want! This creed was deeply rooted in Du Qianqian’s heart. There was always a chance.
Du Qianqian saw something black and writhing in the distance on the road.
Not knowing what was approaching, she quickly pushed the bicycle off the road and into the dry fields among the trees.
Then, a large armored vehicle drove by, making Du Qianqian glad she had moved quickly. The armored vehicle was painted with the identification code of the K2 Legion, its headlights damaged, thus casting a weak, blurred yellow-brown shadow in the darkness. The top was packed with people, all soldiers from Silla Corporation, clearly in violation of regulations, with even machine gun barrels, anti-aircraft gun platforms, rear fuel tanks, and armored skirts occupied by people, treating the armored vehicle as a troop transporter, racing down the highway.
She could see the sparks of light in the darkness, which were them smoking, and many bright cell phone screens illuminating the soldiers’ worried faces.
Now Du Qianqian could see clearly, the Silla People looked very much like the Xia People, the only difference being that the Xia People almost never dyed their hair, while the Silla People dyed it frequently, in gold or white to appear fashionable; the use of beauty prosthetics was also common, modifying their noses to look more three-dimensional, double eyelids, thin chins, and sharp lips, especially those from Xingping South Road were easily tainted with what’s known as decadence, even soldiers wearing heavy makeup.
Du Qianqian noticed that they were carrying all kinds of items on their shoulders and in their hands, including pots, pans, food, water, and daily supplies in bamboo baskets, as if they had just moved out of some camp, taking all their belongings with them.
After the armored vehicle passed, Du Qianqian pushed her bicycle forward another five miles before she saw a pillaged village, about a hundred households in size.
The smell of death.
Du Qianqian morphed into the appearance of a Black Fire Assault Troop and walked into the village to inspect, fresh corpses were dumped in ditches, and there were eight or nine people lying on the ground, either ignited after being doused with gasoline or possibly their prosthetics had exploded as the bodies were charred. She turned her head to see a row of men dead against the wall, seated at its base, with uniform bullet holes from abdomen to chest.
She saw no survivors, blood still flowing everywhere, doors not closed at night, no belongings left on the road. Two Righteous Army soldiers were killed and tied to trees, seemingly out of spite, their bellies pierced.
The village seemed as though it had been forgotten, only third-party certification agencies would include it in their records for verification.
Du Qianqian looked around at the darkness, this was the debris before her eyes, a number in ten years, a placeholder in a hundred years.
Cheap! Du Qianqian laughed silently to herself.
Funds could buy three hundred bullets, enough to kill a hundred people. A person’s lifetime earnings amount to two million, and there it eliminates two hundred million, not an equivalent exchange at all.
Du Qianqian, bold as ever, made another round in the village to check the corpses, looking for any survivors, and indeed she found someone pretending to be dead.
A person covered in muck lay on the ground, melted into the mire at the entrance of the village, narrowly escaping calamity. When Du Qianqian kicked him, he could no longer bear it and whimpered.
"Spare me—spare me—" he cried out softly, his voice distorted by the mud covering his mouth and nose.
"You’re lucky." Du Qianqian pulled out two sticks of Nutrient Paste from her pocket and threw them to him, then left the massacred village without looking back.
